Intense feelings can bring us closer to others or just the opposite. How many relationships have been strengthened and enriched by the emotion of love? How many families have been torn apart by the emotion of hate or revenge? Do we control our emotions or do they control us? Today's celebration of the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem is filled with deep emotion. The people who see Him are so taken by his presence that they spontaneously act to line is path with palm branches as a sign of honor. The crowd is large, the excitement great and the passion they feel at that moment is genuine. What could possibly go wrong? We know that just a few days later all that will change. The cheers will turn to jeers and the passion will turn from love to hate. The same people who honored him on Sunday will call for his crucifixion on Friday. How could that be? What happened? It all seemed so positive? Things were going so well… Our Lenten journey with the Lord is coming to an end. It will reach its conclusion next Sunday on Easter but in between there are powerful events yet to unfold. Thursday evening we will commemorate the universal call to service that is exemplified by Jesus washing the feet of His disciples; a call that we are challenged to embrace in our life. The celebration of the Eucharist is the memorial of the life giving sacrament that is central to our life as faithful believers gathered around the table of the Lord. On Friday we will hear once again the moving story of the Passion of the Lord and how through one innocent man's death all have been April 13, 2014 redeemed. The veneration of the Cross enables us to unite the pain and suffering in our life with that of Jesus and to change the symbol of the cross from an instrument of death to a symbol of the victory of life over death. The Easter Vigil on Saturday evening enables us to break the darkness of the world with the light of Christ shining in all its glory. As we are sprinkled with the Easter water and renew our Baptism promises we begin again this wonderful journey with the Lord. Each of these days are filled with great emotion that should touch our heart and soul. Please look at your schedule for the week and plan to join us for this spiritual journey. It is an investment of your time that offers great rewards. Sincerely, Rev. Robert DeJulio Pastor The Good Friday Collection Every year, each parish in the United States takes up a collection on Good Friday.
