Spoštovani abonentke in
abonenti, dragi prijatelji
Slovenske filharmonije,
Omanu. Tovrstna vrhunska doživetja bodo naši cilji tudi v prihodnji
sezoni.
Sezono 2013/2014 smo v okviru naših finančnih možnosti načrtovali
zelo skrbno.
srečujemo ustvarjalci v kulturi, ustvarili zanimive in kakovostne
programe v vseh treh ciklih.
kar nekaj pozornosti slovenski glasbeni ustvarjalnosti – stari in novi.
obletnico rojstva Richarda Straussa in 100. obletnico rojstva Witolda
Lutosławskega ... Naš gost bo tudi sam Krzystof Penderecki ob
svojem 80. rojstnem dnevu.
direktor Slovenske filharmonije
Dear subscribers
and friends of the
Slovenian Philharmonic,
By way of introduction, I would first like to cast a brief glance back
on the previous season and the extremely successful achievement
of our planned goals. I am sure you will agree that amongst our
most important accomplishments were our tours abroad. Behind
us are extraordinary tours with Anna Netrebko and Mischa Maisky
throughout Europe, and with Bryn Terfel in Oman. It is this kind of
first-rate experience that will be our goal in the coming season.
We have, within the framework of our financial capabilities, planned
the 2013/2014 season with a great deal of care. In spite of the
difficulties that we creative people face in the field of culture, we
have sought to produce an interesting and high quality programme
in all of our three subscription series. Naturally, our aim is to
present outstanding conductors and soloists, who are the key to
the successful staging of our concerts, and one of the fundamental
conditions for creating an exception experience. We are convinced
that we have succeeded in this regard.
At the Slovenian Philharmonic, we are well aware of the importance
of our music tradition, and we make every effort to nurture it. In
our programme, a significant amount of attention will again this
year be devoted to Slovenian musical creativity, both old and new.
Various anniversaries offer a great opportunity to acknowledge the
legacy that we have inherited. We will mark the 65th anniversary of
Jani Golob with the premiere performance of a new work. Nor will
we overlook the 200th anniversary of the birth of Richard Wagner,
or the 150th anniversary of the birth of Richard Strauss, or the
100th anniversary of birth of Witold Lutosławski, while Krzysztof
Penderecki’s 80th anniversary will be marked by an appearance by
the renowned composer and conductor himself.
Finally, I would like to thank you for the trust that you place in us, and
to invite you to continue to create unforgettable experiences with us,
as I am convinced that one of the crucial ingredients of the excellent
concerts by our musicians is our superb audience.
We look forward to seeing you at our concerts.
Yours sincerely,
Damjan Damjanovič,
Director of the Slovenian Philharmonic

Izjemnega solista in prvega flavtista Berlinskih filharmonikov Emmanuela
Pahuda smo pričakovali že v prejšnji sezoni, vendar so ga obveznosti
Pristno in ganljivo. « (Die Presse)
Orkester bo vodil Ivan Repušić, »mladi, strastni in muzikalni dirigent srca
in uma, odprtega za nove izkušnje, neobremenjen z ničevostjo in predsodki,
ki bi marsikoga zapeljali ...«. (Jutarnji list)
We were anticipating an appearance by the extraordinary soloist and first
flutist of the Berlin Philharmonic Emmanuel Pahud in the previous season,
but obligations in his own orchestra kept him in Berlin. We are sure that this
year the Blue Series will nonetheless be opened by the “flutist who invests
melody with an extremely fragile preciousness… authentic and moving”.
(Die Presse)
The orchestra will be led by Ivan Repušić, “a young, passionate and musical
conductor with a heart and mind open to new experiences, unburdened
by the vanity and prejudices that would lead many a person astray…”.

Zanj so v reviji Fono
Forum zapisali: »Njegovi roki sta kot specializirana ambasadorja njegovega
uma ... majhna, živahna, a preudarna, včasih celo omahljiva prinašalca misli,
sanj in v njegovi neverjetni interpretaciji zagotovilo enkratne izvedbe.«
Alexander Lonquich, whom we have until now known only as an
extraordinary pianist, will take to our stage for the first time in the role
of conductor. Referring to him, the journal Fono Forum wrote: “His hands
are like specialised ambassadors of his mind… small, lively but penetrating,
sometimes even fickle bearers of thoughts, of dreams, and in his incredible
interpretation they are the guarantee of a unique performance.”

»Johnsonovo igranje je čudovito,« je zapisal kritik časopisa Milwaukee Journal
Sentinela. »Nastop prve teme je bil ganljivo občuten in nostalgičen, vendar
nikoli pretiran.
Njeno prefinjeno
vodstvo je [bilo] vrhunec večera.« (Bachtrack)
“Johnson’s playing is wonderful”, wrote a reviewer for the newspaper
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “The appearance of the first theme was
touchingly sensitive and nostalgic, but never exaggerated. His melody simply
rose above the orchestra and filled the hall, while at the same time sounding
as if he were playing just for himself. The internalised intimacy touched
us even from a distance.”
Keri-Lynn Wilson’s conducting baton was “keen, suggestive, always focused
on and sensitive towards the musical happenings on stage. Her refined
leadership was the highlight of the evening.” (Bachtrack)

who will appear on our stage for the second time.

and real lyricism and communication, far removed from the prestidigitatory
typewriters that many pianists have become today”.

(Radio Slovenija)
Letos nam bo predstavil slovanski spored. Osrednja skladba bo noviteta
Iva Petrića s solistko Vonji Kim Ozim, ki v svojih izvedbah kaže »tehnično
suverenost in izrazno moč v učinkovitih izmenjavah intimnosti in dramatike.«
(Neuss-Grevenbroicher Zeitung)
In the opinion of numerous critics, Simon Krečič shone in his successful
appearances in the cycle Pika–Točka–Tačka with his performance of
Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4, as he “succeeded in this symphony of
countless moods to nonetheless bring to the fore that which is able to
overcome winter depression and come to life in simple, original joy”.
(Radio Slovenia)
This year he will present a Slavic programme. The central composition will
be a new work by Ivo Petrić featuring the soloist Wonji Kim Ozim, who in her
performances demonstrates “technical mastery and expressive power in the
effective exchanges of intimacy and drama”. (Neuss-Grevenbroicher Zeitung)

Aleksandar Marković is a regular guest of our concert stages. He thrills
audiences throughout Europe “not only with his broad smile, but also with
his self-confident manner and convincingness, which is based both on his

Violinist Alissa Margulis was labelled by Ivry Gitlis as a “discovery” and
by Martha Argerich as “a powerful musical personality”, while The Guardian
described her playing as “extraordinary”. She will present herself with

s toplino in entuziazmom; počasne pasaže še posebej odlikujejo izjemne
barve in obilica lirike.« (Orange County Register)
K nam ponovno prihaja violončelist Johannes Moser, po besedah kritika
LA Timesa »... čisti užitek. Njegov ton poje in preprosto nosi. Glasbenik
Stern’s conducting technique is said to be “precious, almost kitsch,
with additional ornaments between the main beats. Musicians respond
to it with warmth and enthusiasm; the slow passages in particular are
distinguished by colour and abundant lyricism.” (Orange County Register)
We will once again enjoy an encounter with cellist Johannes Moser, who,
in the words of a reviewer for The LA Times, is a “...pure pleasure. His tone
sings and simply carries. He animates the orchestral musicians, who seem
to get better with every bar they play with him.”

This season will see the return of a conducting legend – our orchestra
will again appear under the baton of Sir Neville Marriner, who last year
“confirmed his abilities as an interpreter who moves through preciously
moderate ‘mainstream’ currents, is sufficiently precise historically, while
at the same time having a contemporary ‘original’ subjectivity; he is reserved
but he knows how to and wants to stand out in an engaged way, and it is in
this manner that he offered the auditorium one of the greatest performances

“The Istanbul Symphony, Op. 28 is full of contradictions and picturesque,
almost onomatopoeic moments; the exotic solo instruments [the kudum,

it is clear that Say has so many ideas that he is even wasteful.” (MjuzNews.rs)
These are just a few responses to the Belgrade performance of the first
of the three symphonies that Fazil Say has written to date. So far, we have

krstil in posnel Žurajevo skladbo Warm Up, ki je mlademu skladatelju potem
prinesla velik uspeh – drugo mesto na 59. mednarodni skladateljski tribuni
Rostrum v Stockholmu.
za rog in orkester.
This year, Matthias Pintscher will appear “just” in the role of conductor.
His leading of the orchestra “is characterised by polite conduct along with
a decisive and precise technique. He devotes equal attention to calmly
conveying the main structural lines as to opportunities for sudden twists
of articulation, cuts in dynamics and changes of mood.” (The Australian)
Saar Berger, a member of Ensemble Modern, is already known to the
Slovenian audience, having appeared at concerts of the Slowind Festival
and the Slovenian Music Days. Last March, he premiered and recorded
Žuraj’s composition Warm Up, which brought the young composer a major
success when he was awarded second place in the 59th International
Composers’ Rostrum in Stockholm. Their collaboration has continued,
as we will witness with the Horn Concerto.

dostojanstvo dobri lastnosti.« (The Dallas Morning News)
»Nikoli nismo slišali boljšega Tretjega klavirskega koncerta Sergeja Prokofjeva
kot s solistom Andrewom von Oeynom. Lirske pasaže so vsebovale lepoto,
"Ms. Wilson has the presence of a conductor to the manor born.
She has the aura of natural command it takes to drive a stage full
of virtuosos... Performances like these could persuade a whole new
generation that glamour and self-possessed dignity are good things."

“We have never heard a better performance of Sergei Prokofiev’s Third
Piano Concerto than that by soloist Andrew von Oeyen. The lyrical passages
contained beauties that are impossible to perceive on recordings; and the
brilliant finale, which has both a glorious melody and virtuoso coruscations,
such as prestissimo double glissandos, had to be heard to be believed.”

»Matthias Bamert je vsakemu stavku vtisnil temperament in preglednost
nad razmeroma gostobesednim, izvorno pač v okvirih komornega diskurza
zamišljenim tkivnim razraščanjem, obenem pa z orkestrom do konca ohranjal
stopnjevalske zaloge, celo nesluteno zagretost zvočnih gest. ... Bamert je
povzdignil SF v ansambel, katerega skupine in posamezniki (soli) se osmišljajo
kot glasovi in zavedajo svojih vlog v hierarhičnem oblikovnem redu.« Tokrat
bo z »gostujočim orkestrom«, s Simfoničnim orkestrom RTV Slovenija, solisti
in našim zborom poustvaril veličastni oratorij švicarskega skladatelja Franka
Martina Golgota.
Referring to a regular guest of our subscription series, a reviewer for
Delo wrote last year: “On every movement, Matthias Bamert imprinted
the temperament and clarity of vision of the relatively wordy interstitial
ramification, originally conceived within the frameworks of chamber music
discourse. At the same time, he maintained the reserves of increasing
intensity, the unimagined passion of the sonic gestures, until the very end…
Bamert raised the Slovenian Philharmonic to an ensemble whose groups and
individuals (soloists) gave meaning to themselves as voices, while also being
aware of their roles in the hierarchically formed order.” On this occasion,
with our “guest orchestra” the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra, soloists
and our own choir, Matthias Bamert will perform the magnificent oratorio
Golgotha by Swiss composer Frank Martin.

impozantno, z osupljivim fortissimo A5 v sklepu.

After Sabina Cvilak’s performance at London’s celebrated Rosenblatt Recitals,
we could read: “Cvilak performed Allerseelen elegantly, the melody was
astonishing. It was a genuinely moving performance, and without a doubt
one of the best interpretations of these songs I have ever heard. The
performance of Zueignung was imposing, with an amazing fortissimo A5
at the end. It was also a joy to listen to her beautiful phrasing in Morgen;

“We had a opportunity to become familiar with Martina Batič, the artistic
director of the Slovenian Chamber Choir, as the choral conductor who refined
the chorus of the Ljubljana Opera and “renewed” it with a vigorous, even
powerful sonic quality. /…/ the conductor shows herself to be a master
of martial passages dominated by rhythm and an almost fateful sonic weight.
Thus she opened up the Dies irae in a way that was almost terrifying, while
intensifying the fugal section of the Ofertorio to a majestic climax with
an unrelenting sonic-rhythmic logic.” (Dnevnik)

Since 1951, the Slovene Octet has enriched vocal music in Slovenia, devoting

which it presents successfully at concerts on all of the continents. “In its new

(City of London Sinfonia).
to učna ura inteligentnega fraziranja, brezhibne dikcije
in popolnega 'timinga'.«
There is probably no one better to present the achievements of British choral
music than Stephen Layton, the Musical Director of the Trinity College
in Cambridge and the Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the City
of London Sinfonia. After one of his concerts, a reviewer for the newspaper
The Oxford Times wrote that the performance was “marked by a bright,
clear sound, that was strictly disciplined under the authoritative leadership
of Stephen Layton – it was a lesson in intelligent phrasing, faultless diction
and perfect timing”.
Mednarodni cikel Pika – Točka – Taчкa že tretjo sezono skupaj
pripravljajo orkestri Slovenske, Zagrebške in Beograjske filharmonije.
sodelovanja in razumevanja.«
Program bo
obarvan lahkotneje – še posebej pa bo privlačen projekt Zagrebške
filharmonije z naslovom Suvenir Latinoamericano.
For the third consecutive season, the international cycle Pika –
Točka – Taчкa (literally: Dot – Dot – Dot in Slovenian, Croatian and
Serbian respectively) is being jointly prepared by the orchestras of
the Slovenian, Zagreb and Belgrade Philharmonics. Vladimir Kulenović, one of the conductors from the previous season, commented
that “this project is the best possible way to place a pika, točka and
taчкa [a full stop] on the difficulties from the past, while at the same
time opening a new chapter in cooperation and understanding.”
At previous concerts from the series, we have hosted a series of
young artists, but this year members of the orchestras will present
themselves as soloists at the first two concerts. The programme will
have a lighter flavour – particularly attractive is the project
of the Zagreb Philharmonic entitled Souvenir Latinoamericano.

KLASIKA
NeskonËno ljubljena
Endlessly beloved
mislih – do staršev, otrok, partnerja, morda do živali,
Umetnost
napolni ter obogati dušo in vpliva na naše počutje.
Verjamemo, da se strinjate z nami.
Glasbeniki vsakič znova stremimo k vrhunskim
izvedbam in naše poslanstvo delimo z Vami. V tretji
sezoni nedeljskih matinej Godalnega kvarteta
Slovenske filharmonije bo rdeča nit LJUBEZEN v
vseh svojih razsežnostih.
Že naslov letošnjega cikla sam nam pove veliko – Neskončno
ljubljena.
L. van Beethoven ni nikoli pozabil svoje ljubezni (muzikologi menijo,
ob 100. obletnici smrti). Cikel pa bomo sklenili z deli »železnega«
komornega repertoarja – Drugim godalnim kvartetom R. Schumanna
in Godalnim sekstetom J. Brahmsa. Odlomke Brahmsovih pisem
Clari Schumann pa bo predstavil priljubljeni igralski par Nataša Tič
Ralijan in Gašper Tič.
Naj bo sezona 2013/14 polna ljubezni.
Godalni kvartet Slovenske filharmonije

Not a single day passes during which we fail to think at least once
about love, whether it is love of our parents, our children, our partner,
perhaps love of animals, of nature, and not least of art. We hope you
agree that art has an ability to fill the soul and to influence our mood.
We musicians therefore attempt over and over again to provide a
first-rate performance and share our mission with you. In the third
season of Sunday matinees of the Slovenian Philharmonic String
Quartet, the connecting thread will be LOVE in all of its meanings.
The title of this year’s cycle itself tells us a great deal – Endlessly
Beloved. It probably reminds each of us of some intimate event that
we will never forget as long as we live. Thus the great composer
Ludwig van Beethoven never forgot his secret love (musicologists
believe that it was Countess Josephine Brunswick), to whom he
declared his love in letters. He also melted his love into music,
which is why our programme includes his String Quartet No. 4 in C
minor, Op. 18. In conjunction with this performance, we will listen
to texts that Beethoven dedicated to his “endlessly beloved” read
by Gašper Tič. In November, we will host the Belgrade Philharmonic
String Quartet. The series of compositions centred around messages
and declarations of love will include works by Schumann, Brahms,
Raff and Mahler, as well as the extraordinary String Quartet “B-La-F”,
which was a joint creation of four great Russian composers: RimskiKorsakov, Glazunov, Borodin and Ljadov (thus we also mark the 100th
anniversary of Ljadov’s death). In January, we will host our former
colleague horn player Andrej Žust, now a member of the Berlin
Philharmonic. The cycle will be concluded with works from the
established chamber repertoire: String Quartet No. 2 by R. Schumann
and the String Sextet by J. Brahms. Excerpts from Brahms’s letters
to Clara Schumann will be read by actor couple Nataša Tič Ralijan and
Gašper Tič.
May the 2013/14 season be full of love!
