The Flåm Railway – most exciting in Scandinavia Discover the Flåm Railway - an incredible train journey from the mountain station Myrdal on the Bergen Railway down to Flåm station by the Aurlandfjord. The journey is 20 km long and the difference in altitude is 863,5 metres. The journey from Myrdal to Flåm takes you through some of the most beautiful scenery in Norway. Flåm Station is situated by the Aurlandsfjord, which is a busy harbour for scheduled boat and cruise ships. You can combine a trip on The Flåm Railway with a walk through Flåmsdalen valley or a bicycle tour at Rallarvegen (The Navvies’ Road). Vangen Church (1202) Vangen Church was built by an ancient family who lived in Aurland in the Viking age and Middle age. The church is built in the early Gothic style. During the last restoration in 1926, the original colours and design were uncovered. Then the ceiling was removed and the baldachin over the pulpit was brought back again. A new alter piece was made. Stained-glass windows by Emanuel Vigeland. Opening times: June 1st – August 31st. Free admission. Aurland Shoe factory – factory outlet The famous “Aurland shoe” has been manufactured in Aurland for over 100 years. The shoe has changed little since they started to manufacture it. Original “Aurland shoe” is made in natural and black color, with rubber or leather sole. Factory outlet open all year. Aurlandsvegen (ikkje tilrådd for caravan) Fjellvegen mellom Aurland og Lærdal er open for biltrafikk ca. 1. juni – ca. 15. okt. The road is a journey through varied vegetation as you go from fjord to mountain. The view when you head down to Aurland is breathtaking. Up on the mountain plateau there is snow almost all year. The area is also known for good fishing and hiking in the summer. From Aurland to the viewpoint Bjørgo the road is open all year (6 km from Aurland). New Viewpoint Platform. The crossing Aurland – Lærdal is 48 km. The highest point on the road is 1306 metres above sea level.
