ACTIVITIES
No Sunday School this Sunday
A reminder to the parents that there will be no Sunday
School this Sunday, October 12 (the Thanksgiving long weekend).
Thanks to the parents for filling up the snack schedule. The
children are enjoying the variety (the teachers are too!)
Mother’s Union Meeting
The regular monthly Mothers' Union branch meeting will be
held on Wednesday, October 15.
We will meet at the hall at 7:00 pm for refreshments,
followed by a short business meeting and Advent candle making.
Guests are always welcome to join us.
HARVEST SUPPER
This year’s Harvest Supper will be held on Sunday,
November 2 at Cathedral Memorial Hall, with a turkey supper
served at 5:30 pm.
As always, this will be a wonderful chance to celebrate the
bounty of the season and the richness of our life together as a
Cathedral family. There are many opportunities for all to contribute
to the celebration – sign-up sheets to donate food or volunteer your
time will be posted at the back of the Cathedral for the next several
weeks. Even if you are not able to help in these ways, you will
certainly contribute through your presence at the supper. A free-will
offering will be collected at the door.
As some may remember, we have had difficulty in past years
with limited seating at the supper, due to fire regulations in the Hall.
Last year’s attempt to solve this problem by issuing tickets was not
entirely successful, so this year we have decided not to issue tickets,
but just to remind you that this is a “first-come, first-served” event.
So come early if you want to be sure of a seat!
Also, a reminder that this is an opportunity for members of
the Cathedral and their immediate family to celebrate together –
there are many other Cathedral events to which friends and
acquaintances can be invited.
We look forward to seeing you on November 2. Please
remember to check out the sign-up sheets at the back of the
Cathedral for ways you can help to make this a wonderful evening
for all!

INFORMATION
A Fond Farewell
Douglas Mullin, our Cathedral Verger for the past three
years, has decided to move back home to the Miramichi, having
found employment there, and also where he can be closer to his
family. Today, sadly, is his last Sunday with us.
We sincerely thank Doug for his faithful service over the
past three years and wish him the very best in his future endeavours.
God bless you very much, Doug.
Cathedral Quilters
Do you have a quilt top that needs hand quilting? Or would
you like to learn to quilt or revive your quilting skills? The Cathedral
Quilters meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Cathedral Hall
Lounge, and would be delighted to have you join us. For more

Update from Outreach Committee
The Outreach Committee received an immediate offer in
response to last week's request for a single bed to help a family from
the Monday morning drop-in. Thank you!
Your donations of sandwiches, muffins and fruit are greatly
appreciated. The average attendance has been 65 per week so there
are many hungry mouths to feed.
In terms of clothing to give to people in need, we are
currently accepting baby clothes (newborn to six-month size only),
and women's clothing suitable for the fall and winter season in any
size. No other items are required at this time.
HEALTH MINISTRY
Blood Pressure Clinic
The regular monthly blood pressure clinic will take place
this Sunday, October 12 after the 8:00 am service, and between the
10:00 and 11:45 am times of worship, at the back of the Cathedral.
All are welcome to come and have their blood pressure
checked.

FLU CLINIC
Thursday, October 30 between 1:30 and 4:30 pm in the
Cathedral Memorial Hall
All those under 18yrs or 65yrs and older, those in
households with children under 5, the flu vaccine is free.
For all others the fee is $25.00
This is a VON community clinic and will be by appointment

Coming in November!
ACW/Health Ministry Presentation - on Wednesday,
November 12 at 2:30 pm in Cathedral Memorial Lounge.
The Cathedral ACW and Cathedral Health Ministry will
jointly offer a Health Information Session on "Crime Prevention
in the Home".
All congregational members are very welcome to join ACW
members to hear Constable Lombard of the City Police present this
very important topic for our health and safety.

students in our city, whether they attend university, community
college, other training facilities, or our high schools. Your prayers
will be appreciated by many youth -- such as those who are taking
part in the Inter-varsity Christian Fellowship -- and needed by all of
them facing today's challenging world.

FROM THE WIDER CHURCH
PWRDF Sends Funds to Aid Displaced People in Iraq PWRDF has
announced an initial grant of $10,000 through the ACT
Alliance to provide aid to some of the over one million
people displaced following recent conflict in northern and
western Iraq (including Mosul, the second largest city in
the country.) These newly displaced people are joining
over 200,000 Syrian refugees who are already sheltering in north
eastern Iraq.
Christian, Shiite, Zoroastrian, and Kurdish people in
particular are fearful for their future under the Islamic State of Iraq and
Levant (ISIL) which has blitzed into northern and western Iraq in the last
6 weeks, pushing the Iraqi national army out of Mosul and large swaths
of northern and western Iraq.
ACT Alliance members Lutheran World Federation (LWF)
and Christian Aid (CA) are providing food, clean water and
psychosocial support and trauma counselling in the Kurdish region,
Karbala region, and Nineveh Plain area of the Mosul Governorate of
Iraq. The response will provide:






12,500 displaced families and their host communities with
access to clean water
5500 vulnerable families with emergency food relief
5000 vulnerable people with support services for
psychosocial and health care
400 families with needed household supplies
400 families with health and hygiene kits
over 400 families with cash assistance.

and Financial Development Team will be held

and Nashwaaksis. Keynote presenter, Mr.
Randall Goodfellow, is chair of our General
Synod’s Creation Matters initiative and has
helped churches of many denominations

OTHER
A Bible Study with the Bishop
Bishop David Edwards has offered to teach a Bible study, 'See
Through the Scriptures’ in each archdeaconry in the Diocese. It
provides a framework to understand the grand complex narrative
that unfolds between Genesis and Revelation.
In Fredericton, David will be offering this as a one day 6-hour
seminar on Saturday, November 29th at Cathedral Memorial
Hall. Please mark this date in your calendars. More detailed
information re registration and timing will follow. Meanwhile, you

The Anglican Parish of St. Margaret’s, 775 Forest Hill Road,
Fredericton, NB invites you to attend the Installation Service
for our new rector, The Reverend Richard Robinson on Sunday,
October 19, 2014 at 3:00 pm. The Celebrant will be Bishop David
Edwards. Reception to follow.
Harvest Hymns
On Sunday, October 19 at 3:00 pm, at Christ Church Parish
Church (corner of Charlotte and Westmorland Streets) the
Fredericton Organists’ Association will be holding their 14th annual
hymn sing. This year’s event will feature young musicians and
children’s choirs from local churches. All are invited to attend and
sing well known hymns of thanksgiving and praise and support our
talented youth! Admission is free and a free will offering will be
collected to support the work of the Fredericton Organists’
Association.

Order of St Luke Retreat
The Order of St. Luke has a retreat scheduled on Saturday,
November 1 entitled, How to Listen to God. For more information,
please see the brochure and poster on the bulletin board at the back
for details. We are looking forward to a wonderful time in the Lord.
