St. Rose of Lima Parish Parroquia Santa Rosa de Lima In Christ, We are Bread for one another: Broken… we gather. Nourished… we reach out. ………………….....……………………………. En Cristo, Somos Pan para cada uno: Lo Dividimos… Nos Juntamos. Alimentados… tendemos la mano. You Are Invited - RSVP! October 12, 2014 ORDINARY TIME 28 Isaiah tells of a great banquet on the Lord’s mountain. For people everywhere, a meal is a very powerful way of bringing individuals together. It is not just a me to eat, but a social occasion to share with others. Lots of things happen at meals. The Lord used the Passover meal as the place for the Last Supper. Because a meal is a powerful human moment, it is o en used as a symbol of heaven. Isaiah’s image of a huge banquet illustrates God’s purpose to reunite all na ons and races torn apart by Original Sin. Jesus uses the image of a banquet to indicate that all are invited to the kingdom of God. We can accept, ignore or refuse that divine invita on. Refusing it is to cut ourselves off from the spring of life eternal. God doesn’t force salva on on us. In today’s Gospel, the person who accepted the invita on was not properly dressed. That detail expresses an important cau on. Receiving the invita on to life and communion with Christ is one thing. Staying in union with Him is something else. We have to do our part. There is the danger of “seeking grace my way,” according to my human understanding, with my condi ons and without obedience, good works, discipleship or repentance; grace without any cost to myself. In Jesus, the very life of God is offered to everyone, but only those who change their way of living will experience the transforming power of God. We must give up our old clothes and put on the new clothes of the disciple, the Chris an steward and servant. It is not just saying prayers, but opening our hearts to God in prayer; it is not just the number of words we say, but the kind of life and heart from which our prayer comes; it is not just being in church, but how deeply we par cipate in the Mass; it is not just knowing the faith, but living it as stewards. These are the keys that unlock the door to the power of Christ. Our entry to the banquet is not just a bap smal call to which we or our parents responded years ago; we must wear the garments of our Bap sm now and become stewards to others by our obedient discipleship and faithful sharing of me, talent and treasure. It is the bap smal life that counts, not the bap smal cer ficate. Are you properly prepared for the banquet? Are you on me? What kind of daily life do you bring to Mass? What is the condi on of your bap smal garment? Is your Bap sm a distant memory, or an ac ve commitment shaping your life and your priori es right now? If your bap smal promises s ll shape your life, if you accept the invita on to be a disciple and a steward to others through your gi s of me, talent and treasure, then, at this sacred banquet of the Mass you will receive God’s promise of eternal life. The invita on is given, but we must accept the call. 11701 Clopper Rd., Gaithersburg, MD 20878-1024 PHONE: 301-948-7545 FAX: 301-869-2170 EMERGENCIES (A er Hours): 301-355-8191 CANCELLATION INFORMATION: x307 WEBSITE: www.strose-parish.org EUCHARIST / EUCARISTÍA Historic Chapel / Capilla Histórica Monday-Friday................................... 8:30 am (English) 1er Viernes ........................................ 7:00 pm (Español) Sunday............................................... 7:15 am (English) 1er Dimanche................................... 10:00 am (Français) 2nd Sunday ........................................ 5:00 pm (Tagalog) Church / Iglesia Saturday Vigil ..................................... 5:00 pm (English) Sunday...... 8:45 am (English) & 11:15 am (English + ASL) Domingo ........................................... 1:00 pm (Español) RECONCILIATION / RECONCILIACIÓN Historic Chapel / Capilla Histórica Thursday........................ 7:00-9:00 pm (English/Español) Church / Iglesia Saturday ..................................... 4:00-4:30 pm (English) Domingo .................................... 2:15-3:15 pm (Español) BAPTISM PREPARATION / PREPARACIÓN PARA BAUTIZO Bap sm Classes Begin while pregnant or awai ng adop on.
