St. Rose of Lima Parish Parroquia Santa Rosa de Lima In Christ, We are Bread for one another: Broken… we gather. Nourished… we reach out. ………………….....……………………………. En Cristo, Somos Pan para cada uno: Lo Dividimos… Nos Juntamos. Alimentados… tendemos la mano. Calling, Leaving, Following January 25, 2015 ORDINARY TIME 3 In today’s Gospel reading, Jesus calls Simon, Andrew, James and John and describes the three elements of this very personal moment, “the calling, the leaving, and the following," present in every Chris an life. The Calling: Jesus calls those whom He wishes. While Jesus walked along, many people were there, but He only called Simon, Andrew, James and John for a purpose. He also calls each of us for a reason. The call of the Lord in Bap sm is very personal and for a purpose that nobody else can accomplish the same way. The Leaving: Like the Apostles, we have to leave behind the nets that entangle, burden and confuse us. The conflicts, tensions and darkness that we see in our world reflect the same conflict, tension and darkness found in the human heart. There is no place we can go to escape the issues within the human heart. Where could we go to escape jealousy, disloyal friendships, anger and revenge? Before we change the world around us, we need to change the world inside us. What a tudes and ac ons are we willing to leave behind for Christ? Are we ready to abandon gossip, dishonesty, intolerance, greed, arrogance, anger, bad feelings and resentments that entangle us and make us no different than unbelievers? These are the more difficult nets for us to leave behind because we are so wrapped up in them that they seem to be normal or even necessary. The Following: This means living Jesus’ teachings by standing up to protect the sacredness of human life from the moment of concep on to natural death; speaking the truth about the role of money, power and posi on and their capacity to distort human life; guarding the dignity of sexuality in a world dominated by ero cism; protec ng the holiness of marriage in a world that sees commitments as temporary and condi onal; defending spiritual life in a world that defines life by consump on and material possessions; standing for truth in a world driven by publicity, image, fame, superficiality, fashion and trends. To follow Jesus is much more than quo ng Him or visi ng the places where He once lived. It is being Jesus to the people and the culture around us. Through our Bap sm, Jesus called us and gave us a personal mission. Bap sm means that we follow Jesus - not only by preserving His message and His Gospel, but also by sharing them with the people around us. Like Simon and Andrew, James and John, Christ called us in Bap sm not only for ourselves, but also for others. The treasure of spiritual life is for everyone. 11701 Clopper Rd., Gaithersburg, MD 20878-1024 PHONE: 301-948-7545 FAX: 301-869-2170 EMERGENCIES (A er Hours): 301-355-8191 CANCELLATION INFORMATION: x307 WEBSITE: www.strose-parish.org EUCHARIST / EUCARISTÍA Historic Chapel / Capilla Histórica Monday-Friday................................... 8:30 am (English) 1er Viernes ........................................ 7:00 pm (Español) Sunday............................................... 7:15 am (English) 1er Dimanche................................... 10:00 am (Français) 2nd Sunday ........................................ 5:00 pm (Tagalog) Church / Iglesia Saturday Vigil ..................................... 5:00 pm (English) Sunday...... 8:45 am (English) & 11:15 am (English + ASL) Domingo ........................................... 1:00 pm (Español) RECONCILIATION / RECONCILIACIÓN Historic Chapel / Capilla Histórica Thursday........................ 7:00-9:00 pm (English/Español) Church / Iglesia Saturday ..................................... 4:00-4:30 pm (English) Domingo .................................... 2:15-3:15 pm (Español) BAPTISM PREPARATION / PREPARACIÓN PARA BAUTIZO Bap sm Classes Begin while pregnant or awai ng adop on.
