A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT
There are certain Bible verses Christian stewards have
memorized. One of them is in Saint Paul’s letter to the
Philippians found in today’s second reading—”I can do all
things through Christ who strengthens me” (4:13).
Most people define themselves either by their problems or
their possibilities. Fearful people wake up each morning
ensnared by their problems. Christian stewards wake up
reflecting on their possibilities with confidence and hope.
Some stewardship reflection questions for the week: What
challenges do you back away from because you doubt that
you are up to them? What would you attempt tomorrow if
you were sure God would help you?

ͷ΃΀;͑΅͹Ͷ͑΁Ͳ΄΅΀΃
͑
Greeting you with love and blessings from God. How was your week? Hopefully everyone is enjoying this beautiful weather,
as the Fall season is really starting. You can feel the cool weather which began last Saturday evening when the temperature
dropped to 66 degrees. On Sunday morning after Mass, I turned off the air conditioner and opened all the windows to let the
fresh air come in. I don’t know about you, but I enjoyed every minute of it. I went in the backyard to do some light exercises,
and I inhaled and exhaled holding my breath as long as I could. Thank God for the good weather, compared to many other
places suffering with natural disasters, knock on wood, we are almost “in heaven” this year. Let’s keep praying because we
still have to deal with Hurricane season until November.
This Sunday we are celebrating Family Day. This year’s theme is “Holiness - Family Style.! The purpose of Family Day is to
promote and strengthen all families and parish families. The Trinity - Father, Son and Holy Spirit gives us the strength and
graces to know that each and every family is sacred, especially in the details of our ordinary lives. We are the Body of
Christ, the Family of God. But it is often difficult to understand the giftedness and the importance of family life without
guidance in how to experience and grow in the grace and beauty that God makes available in each family. No family is an
island. We all need to support and depend on each other.
As you may know, the concept of family in our society today is so different than the way it used to be. Years ago when we
talked about family, we talked about parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, etc., and they all lived very close to you. But today,
it is a completely different picture. Family comes in different shapes, sizes, race, and also mixed religions. It totally is a
completely different picture. We need to remember that regardless of these differences, we ALL belong to God’s family and
we are ALL God’s children. God still loves each and every family. We may change, but his love never changes.
If we listen to the Gospel this weekend, it gives us a good example about family, and Jesus uses examples very familiar to
most parents. Children often struggle with obedience, and parents often struggle with how to get their children to complete
the tasks they are given. In the parable of the Gospel, it is the son who ended up repenting for the sake of the father who is
praised rather than the one who selfishly tried to achieve both the praise of the father and the avoidance of the responsibility.
Honesty in our relationship with one another is an act of selflessness, and it has the added benefit of allowing us to be open to
receive both mercy and help in our weaknesses.
Well, there are many families who operate on the surface, and if everything is perfect, happiness is at its peak. But
underneath there are divisions and self-reservation and self-interests defining their life at home. Very often it is the fear of
entering into the darkness that defines these divisions that keep us from receiving the healing forgiveness and would unite us
and bring about the love that we long for from one another and from God. But it is never too late to bring life into this
darkness. Remember we are not alone in making that effort. God will not leave us, and he wants it more than we do.
From my own experience, I still do believe that any family that shares a meal together and pray together will stay together.
Sharing a meal is not just sitting and eating, but carrying on in conversation about things that are going on in your daily lives.
I can tell you it happened right in my own family, when I go back to California for vacation, even though we sit together, many
times I have to remind them about the usage of cellular devices, iPods, Tablets, iPhones, etc. If you cannot completely
concentrate and give one hour to your family members a day, then something is wrong. We need to reconsider. So, this
Sunday, right after 11:00am Mass, please join us in the Marquette Activity Center to celebrate our families. Bring along a side
dish and share with us, as we share with you what we have. Below is a prayer for families this year, written by our dearly
beloved Holy Father Pope Francis. I think it is really appropriate and meaningful for our families:
A Prayer for the Family
O dear Jesus, I humbly implore You to grant Your special graces to our family.
May our home be the shrine of peace, purity, love, labor and faith.
I beg You, dear Jesus, to protect and bless all of us, absent and present, living and dead.
O Mary, loving Mother of Jesus, and our Mother, pray to Jesus for our family, for all the families of the world, to guard the
cradle of the newborn, the schools of the young and their vocations.
Blessed Saint Joseph, holy guardian of Jesus and Mary, assist us by your prayers in all the necessities of life.
Ask of Jesus that special grace which He granted to you, to watch over our home at the pillow of the sick and dying, so that
with Mary and with you, heaven may find our family unbroken in the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Amen

intentions, they are Thursday and Saturday.
For
weekday Masses there is a minimum of ONE family
member or family name allowed PER INTENTION,

or Saturday, which are the multiple intention days. Please

may drop your Mass, Candle and Flower intentions in the
collection with payment or mail them to the Rectory.
The candles will be lit before the 8:00am Mass on
Saturday, November 1 - Adoration of the Blessed
Sacrament will begin after the 8:00am Mass on
Saturday and will last until 12:00 NOON. During this
time, the Rosary will be said hourly, beginning on each hour
during the 4 hour Eucharistic Adoration (Saturday).
Next Sunday is World Mission Sunday! We are called to this
Eucharistic Celebration and invited to “do good on earth,” to
be missionary by putting our faith into action in support of
the work of missionaries like Sister Clara who rescues girls
from human trafficking in India, giving them a loving home.
Your prayers and generous gifts to the Society for the
Propagation of the Faith on World Mission Sunday support
the tireless work of so many priests, religious and lay
leaders around the world as they offer practical, emotional
and spiritual care to communities, children and families in
desperate need, bringing the light of Christ to the darkest of
circumstances.
The All Saints Day Candle envelopes are located on the
tables at each entrance of the church, and at the end of the
Communion rails. Please fill out the form and return it with
your donation (TWO NAME LIMIT) as soon as possible. If
you have more than one candle request, please use
another form and place your two names on it legibly and
return it with your donation. The last day to turn in your
candle request is Monday, October 20th.
If you wish to lead the Rosary, please put your name in the
ledger on the communion rail. The candles will remain lit
until 5:00pm Saturday evening. You may take them home
after they have been blown out.
