Jesus answered and said to them, "Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up." But he was speaking about the temple of his Body. Therefore, when he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this. - Jn 2:18b-19, 21-22b Sunday: READINGS FOR THE WEEK OF NOVEMBER 9, 2014 Ez 47:1-2, 8-9, 12/1 Cor 3:9c-11, 16-17/Jn 2:13-22 Monday: Ti 1:1-9/Lk 17:1-6 Tuesday: Ti 2:1-8, 11-14/Lk 17:7-10 Wednesday: Ti 3:1-7/Lk 17:11-19 Thursday: Phlm 7-20/Lk 17:20-25 Friday: 2 Jn 4-9/Lk 17:26-37 Saturday: 3 Jn 5-8/Lk 18:1-8 Next Sunday: Prv 31:10-13, 19-20, 30-31/1 Thes 5:1-6/Mt 25:14-30 or 25:14-15, 19-21 Saturday, November 8, 2014 4:00pm: Archbishop Favalora Deacon: Difulco Saturday, November 15, 2014 4:00pm: Archbishop Favalora Deacon: DiFulco Sunday, November 9, 2014 8:00am: Fr. Each one of us has been given gifts to offer this building enterprise, and we are called to be good stewards of this project, to build this church together, in communion with one another, according to God’s plan, not ours. Jesus Christ is the solid foundation upon whom we are to build. Saint Paul further suggests that God will judge us according to the quality of our stewardship. Can we see ourselves as “master builders” of God’s church? What gifts are we using to construct this holy place that God will call home? How was your week? Well since the Saints have won their last two games, I bet you all are very happy and feel uplifted. Continue to pray for them this weekend since they are playing the San Francisco 49ers. Hopefully they will win one more time and keep winning until we make it to the playoffs. Yes, miracles do happen, it happened one time before, and it can happen again. We are in the second week of November already. Everything seems to be nicer and cooler this time of year. Things are changing, the weather, the color of the leaves, and it’s almost the end of the hurricane season (November 30). We can slowly exhale now, but on the other hand, unfortunately it also brings on some unexpected things that we do not want. It is the beginning of the FLU Season. You can see for yourself, everywhere you go, right on Jefferson Highway, at CVS, Walgreens and Rite-Aid, you can see advertisement for Flu shots. Get yours, if you haven’t already, it’s up to you, but try the best to prevent the Flu by washing your hands more often, and drinking a lot of juice. Once again, this is the recommendation from the Bishop and the Liturgical Commission given out to us for those attending Mass during the flu season. “During this flu season, I wish to remind everyone to use reasonable caution while celebrating Mass. At the Sign of Peace you may extend your hand as usual or the “Sign of Peace” can be expressed verbally without physical contact. Those who choose to use verbal expression only, should be treated with respect and understanding. For communion, Jesus Christ is fully present in the consecrated Eucharistic bread and wine. Catholics are not required to take communion from the cup. If someone has a cold or flu symptoms, it would be advisable to refrain from the cup. I am also asking pastors to make provisions for clergy and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion to cleanse their hands before and after communion. Most importantly, let us pray for those who are ill, that they will know our care and God’s healing power.” Things are going very well in our parish. Last Sunday we had a few candidates who presented their letters of decision for Confirmation at 11:00 a.m. Mass, so please pray for these candidates so that they will be ready to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This time, we have Archbishop Gregory Aymond who will be the celebrant at our Confirmation on Sunday, February 1, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Mass. Mark your calendars and come out and support our candidates. Two weeks ago was World Youth Day at Loyola and we had over 40 students from our parish who participated. Along with the students, we also had our CCD Coordinator, Ms. Kelly Wilbert, Ms. Corinne Hebert, our CYO Coordinator, and some parents who also chaperoned. There were almost 2,000 people from all parishes in the Archdiocese of New Orleans. It was a huge success. Besides Archbishop Gregory Aymond, who spent the entire day with the young children, there were also a few other well-known speakers who helped to motivate our youth in having faith in God, and bringing God into their lives. Thanks to Kelly and Corinne for a job well done. This year the Feast of All Saints was dispensed, and All Souls Day fell on Sunday. Once again the Altar Society worked very hard to set up the candles that burn in adoration for our deceased loved ones on this special feast day. Almost all of the candles ordered sold out to meet the request of our parishioners. Thank you for your generosity and thank you to the Altar Society for keeping this traditional event that happens yearly in our parish. It is a very beautiful tradition that we need to carry on from year to year, because not only are we honoring and memorializing our deceased loved ones, but it is also a good lesson to teach our children about the duty to honor and respect our past ancestors and to carry on this tradition for years to come. Last Saturday, our parish held its third Art & Craft Fair. There were more than 35 vendors in the Marquette Activity Center. Since I was busy with other duties, I did not have a chance to stop by, but there were a lot of cars and people coming in and out. It was a huge success. Thanks to Marilyn Castle for coordinating this event, and her volunteers, Sarah Lambert, Cassandra Torres, and Camille Vitrano for a job well done. Bravo! Of course, last weekend in my pastor comment I officially announced the closing of St. Agnes School. Thanks to many of you who read it and approached me with your concern and understanding. I want to reiterate that the SCHOOL is closing and not the CHURCH and its other ministries. So, please continue to support the Church with your time, talent and financial support. Your presence and your support will help St. Agnes Church to continue growing stronger everyday. Well, that’s enough for this week. Enjoy this beautiful weather everyday while it is still hanging around us. Be careful, take care of yourselves, be healthy, be happy, and be kind to one another. God Bless and see you next week. Fr.
