Auto-Registration

Eligible students will be automatically
registered when registration opens for the
following semester (Fall 2014 – Nov 3rd)

Important to know how many students seeking a
work term
No student can begin a work term without being
registered - due to liability issues for Memorial
and the employer

Auto-Registration (continued)

University academic/financial regulations apply


Students with a ‘Financial Hold’ are not eligible to be
registered (until the hold is cleared)
Only registered students are allowed to continue in the
job competition
If a student is not registered, an employer may offer
that work term job to another student
Questions about holds and fee payments
should be directed to the Cashier’s Office
•
Co-op office will not normally become involved in
discussions of late fees and similar issues

Auto-deregistration


Students without a work term by the ‘last
day to drop courses with 100% refund’
will be deregistered (2 weeks into term)
Students who remain in the competition
and subsequently secure a work term job
should:

Complete a ‘Course Change Form’ to add WT
Check Self-Service to ensure registration is
processed for the correct work term #
Pay tuition fee

Prerequisites
Work Term 1
• Successful Completion of 200W –
•
Professional Development Seminar.
Normally in Winter semester following
Term 3. (Permission from the Undergraduate
Studies Committee is required for registration in
Spring of first year.)

Pass (PAS or PWD) in previous work
term.
Clear or probationary promotion in
previous academic term.

Academic Terms 3 to 8
Promotion Requirements
• Promotion Average* - at least 60%.
• Minimum grade of 50% in all courses
used to determine Promotion Average*.
* Promotion Average excludes all Complementary
Studies (ENGI and other subjects) and other elective
courses.

Students may be permitted to continue to
the scheduled work term under special
circumstances.

Number of Work Terms
• Minimum: Four (4) work terms.
• Maximum: Six (6) work terms.
• Expectation: As many work terms as you
are qualified to complete.

Work Term Evaluations
• Students are expected to complete all

A grade is awarded for both the

Work Term Evaluations
• A failure on either the performance or

communications component results in a
failure of the work term
A failed grade may be a result of

Being terminated from a job
Quitting a job, or failing to honor a commitment
Failing to submit required documentation
• Failed work terms must be repeated and
passed in order to graduate.

Work Term Placements and
Opting Out
• Students not intending to seek a work
•

term need to opt out by the date specified
by the Co-op office (typically ~1 week into
Academic Term).
Students who wish to opt out later in the
process must complete an opt-out form
and speak with a coordinator.
Students who opt out of the work term are
not permitted to work for any co-op
employer past or present during the WT
