Getting There
Last Tuesday I went to the airport to meet Fr. Cornelius and Fr. Irenaeus as they came to serve the
people of the Diocese of New Ulm. I went to the airport with two very bad photocopied pictures of
our new priests, the name of the airline they were using and
an arrival time. I had never talked to them, no one from the
diocese had spoken with them and these travel arrangements
were made by diocesan officials in Nigeria and the
communication only included the information I had.
Needless to say I was nervous. I was going to be these two
fine priests’ first experience of the Diocese of New Ulm. I
was to be the face of welcome as they left their home
country for the first time and came to an unknown land with
only their desire to serve the Lord to support them. I was
dismayed to find that the time I was given did not
correspond to any of the flights listed on the boards. I chose
the one closest to the time I had and stationed myself by the
escalators in the baggage claim area and crossed my fingers
that their flights had gone well. After 45 anxious minutes I
saw them coming down the escalator and welcomed them to
Minnesota and the Diocese of New Ulm. We went out into the parking lot, and I realized the
challenge before them as they began to shiver and talk about the extreme cold. I realized that all of us
would need to become the warmth that helped them through this transition and would allow them to
share the message of the Lord with us.
Today’s Gospel reminds us that the Lord’s desire is to welcome all people to his banquet of life and
salvation. Fr. Cornelius and Fr. Irenaeus have heard the Lord’s call and come to share in the joy of
God’s presence among us. May we all rejoice at being the guests at such a celebration of God’s love.
The Hard Work of Calling All to God’s Banquet
Today we recognize and honor the ministry and mission of the Council of Catholic Women to
the life of our parishes and area faith community. The members of the Council of Catholic
Women are true servants of God’s desire to call people to know his generous love and mercy.
May they be filled with God’s blessings and our support on this one day when we recognize their
work, and know of our gratitude for their faithful service every day.

A GENTLE REMINDER ABOUT PARKING: Please remember
that parking is allowed only in the striped areas of the parking lot.
The open lane from the entrance around the oval and past the school
and church to the exit is an emergency lane, and we ask that you do
not park in those areas. We understand that this may mean walking a
little further than you would prefer, but your cooperation keeps us all
safe in case of an emergency. Remember that there are some spaces
in the lower level parking lot also.
SHIRLEY NOWAK will be out of the office Monday, October 13,

NO RECONCILIATION THIS SATURDAY: There will be no
celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation this Saturday.
THE RE CONNECTION
Any of y’all out there feeling exhausted? All of that prayerful
support you’re speedin’ our way at RE is definitely working, so you
must be keeping pretty hard at it!  Things have been flowing
relatively seamlessly in the ‘ol hallowed halls on Wednesday nights.
Come to think of it, the other night while I was out praying in my
garage, (That’s not weird, is it? If your fleet is anything as aged as
mine you’re begging the Lord on occasion for “just a few more miles,
please” too!), I got to thinkin’ about just what it takes to keep a
vehicle on the road compared to keeping an RE Program on course.
Sure, you can take the minimal approach to just keep ‘em gettin’ you
from point A to point B, or, you can work the St. Pius X angle and
exhaust yourself in not only makin’ sure everything is firing on all
cylinders, but that you are squeezing every bit of torque and
horsepower you can outta your baby. Which reminds me of an old
muscle car add. I think it was for a ’70 Buick GSX. “510 lb/ft of
torque is enough power to knock the world off its axis…let alone
launch a two ton Buick!” In much the same fashion, twelve hundredsome parishioners have enough power to keep the world on course,
let alone prayerfully support an RE Program. Don’t take your feet
off of those hammers, if ya know what I mean!  We appreciate
it!!!
ATTENTION PARENTS OF FIRST RECONCILIATION STUDENTS
– Our Parents Only First Reconciliation Meeting is coming up in two
weeks, October 26, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. in the basement of Church of

Area Faith Community News
SENIOR HIGH YOUTH RALLY: The Diocesan Senior High
Youth Rally for 9-12 graders will be held at New Ulm on Sunday,
October 26. The schedule for the day includes lunch, skits and
mixers provided by the Diocesan Youth Council and NET Team,
keynote speaker Mike Sweeney of the Kansas City Royals and
Catholic band, “The Thirsting”. It’s a great day for fun and
fellowship and to grow in your faith. Talk to a few friends and see if
you can get a group to go. Permission slips will be handed out at RE
Classes and in school. Money and slips are due to Mrs. Kahle by
Wednesday, October 15.
NEXT WEEKEND our Area Faith Community will celebrate World
Mission Sunday. This year we are invited to reach out and help build
the Church in Mongolia, the world’s youngest Catholic Church, as
well as local churches throughout the Missions, in the most remote
areas across our world. Through the work of these churches, and
their witness to Christ, the poor receive practical help and experience
God’s love and mercy, His hope and peace. Please keep the Mission
in your daily prayers. Please come prepared next weekend to give
generously in the collection for the Society for the Propagation of the
Faith. For more information, please visit www.IAmAMissionary.org.

donate, please leave them in the box in the back of church at Holy
Trinity in Winsted, in the box by the north door at Holy Family in
Silver Lake and in the box in the gathering area at St. Pius X in
Glencoe. Your donation can help keep someone warm this winter.

GENERAL SYNOD OF BISHOPS ON THE GOSPEL OF THE
FAMILY: Through October 19 representative bishops from around
the world will gather for their Third Extraordinary General Assembly
to consider how to proclaim and live the Gospel of the Family in a
credible manner. They will be examining information gathered from
every diocese in the world to help them understand the challenges
faced by families and devise strategies and ways to address these
challenges. This is an important moment in our Church’s ministry to
families and we ask that you remember the bishops who will gather
in Rome in your prayers.
