to school !! Well, so much has happened
since then in the school that never sleeps or
rests!!!!
SPARKLING SILVER AT THE COMMONWEALTH CHESS
CHAMPIONSHIP, GLASGOW, SCOTLAND AND ALL INDIA
FIDE CHESS TOURNAMENT
Tanishka Kotia, our Class VI student and Woman FIDE Master (WFM), represented
India at the recently held Commonwealth Chess Championship at Glasgow, Scotland. She competed with chess players from Australia, Canada, England, Spain,
Germany, GIB, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Malta, New Zealand, Romania, South
Africa, Scotland and USA in the Under 12 Category. In this prestigious tournament
with 152 participants from 16 countries, Tanishka bagged the SILVER medal,
bringing
laurels
to
her
school
and
nation!!!
She was felicitated during the morning assembly by the Principal, Mrs. Rupa
Chakravarty in the presence of the Haryana State Chess Association Secretary,
Pandit Naresh Sharma and President, Sh. Raju Verma. In quick succession, she did
the school proud again by securing the second position in the All India Fide Chess
Tournament held at Delhi from 17th to 20th July.

TOP LAURELS AT INTER-SCHOOL EVENTS
Salwan Public School, Gurgaon organized an ‘Inter-School Paper Presentation Competition’ on Saturday, 26 July 2014 on the topic ‘Is Creating Designer Babies Wrong?’ Sixteen schools from the NCR
participated with two participant representatives from each school. Raghav Nandyal of Class X B
stood first in the paper presentation competition from among 30 participants. Way to go Raghav!!

WINNERS OF THE
OVERALL ZONAL TROPHY FRENCH LANGUAGE
COMPETITION!!!
Suncity school students lifted the Overall Zonal Trophy for Gurgaon region at the
zonal level Inter-School French Language Competition organized under the aegis
of IFC 2014 at Gems School, Palam Vihar on 12 August 2014. Students participated
in dancing, singing and quiz competitions and won the first position in the quiz and
third position in the dancing and singing events.

by Chiranjiv Bharati School on 20th
August 2014. The topic for debate,
‘Social Media is the New Age God’
was excellently handled by our
school team comprising Soumya
Rana, Shubham Dayma, Aashrit
Sethi and Kartikkeya Jain. The team
members exhibited great oratorical
skills to convince the audience.

not only adjudged the ‘Speaker of
the Day’, but also won the ‘Best
Speaker Award’. To his credit,
the Principal of the host school
complimenting him said that she
was absolutely impressed with his
arguments .

22 and 23 August 2014. The event saw participation of 25 schools from Delhi-NCR
and other parts of India too. At a glittering
award ceremony held at the Leela Kempinski, Gurgaon and amidst loud applause,
Shubham received his crystal trophy and
prize money worth INR 10,000 from the
Commissioner of Gurgaon, Mr.Alok Mittal.
Faculty members of other schools praised
his incisive comments, powerful speeches
and challenging questions. During the felicitation ceremony at school, Shubham
shared his experience with the audience.
PEACE WALK TO PROMOTE “ORGAN DONATION”
Our students always contribute to the society by participating in
noble causes. They participated in a Peace Walk to spread the message of “Organ Donation” on 9th August' 2014 at 6:00am.
(Saturday) from Artemis Hospital to the Botanical garden.
SUBJECT WEEK CELEBRATIONS IN FULL SWING!!
Computer and Art Week took us into a magical world of colourful hues
and the wonders of the mouse “CLICK”. While the tiny tots were engaged
making digital caterpillars/butterflies or even the keyboard using e- waste
(old waste cd’s) and old egg trays, the primary students came dressed up
as their favorite application or a website .Some of them also played as
their favorite character and brought beautiful props related to the website and application. There were several stage performances on the
theme- Click.The children spoke on the importance of mouse click and
how it has brought change in their lives through e-banking, e-shopping,
skype, you tube, e-ticketing, video conferencing etc. While speaking on their topic, they made use of
beautiful props and posters which they designed themselves. The children came dressed up as famous
artists and spoke about their great works and visual art styles. It was presented in the form of a beautifully enacted play. The highlight was an audio-visual presentation of various activities that were conducted
by the students across all the levels as a part of art and computer week and all the learning experiences
they shared together.There was a quiz in which the students participated with great interest. An interesting finale was a live video conference with one of our former faculty members, Ms. Rashmi Khanna,
who is based in Dubai. She chatted with the students. Indeed, the world is now just a CLICK away!!
Sanskrit Week was celebrated with zeal and zest. Its aim was to create
greater awareness about its significance. The week commenced with a
havan which was presided over by Col. Rana, the School Administrator
and Ms. Sheena Sethi, the Academic Superisor. They shared their thoughts
related to the role ,language continues to play in the cultural heritage of
our nation. This was followed by the Janamashtami festivities wherein the
students visited a temple and interacted with the head priests. The priests
were impressed with the Sanskrit speaking skills of the students. The Principal, Ms. Rupa Chakravarthy also encouraged the students to explore the
rich traditions and values associated with the language.

The school celebrated the interdisciplinary Maths- Science week between 19-23 August 2014.
Titled the ‘Celestial Faire’, the week was a learning of mathematical and scientific concepts
based on the theme of ZODIAC. Special assemblies, game stalls, movie screening, backyard
science activities and outings were some of the attractions of the week. The most unique and
appreciated feature, however, was the makeover of the school’s interiors to resemble a starry
night showing different constellations, planets and other celestial bodies in space.
CYCLOTRON 2014, INTER SCHOOL SCIENCE COMPETITION
Modern School, New Delhi organized an Inter School Competition on 22 August 2014. Titled,Cyclotron 2014’, the competition saw around thirty five schools participating in different events
such as, Be the Change, Glidomania, Rocketile, Building Blocks and Quiz. Suncity students participated
in the competition and performed brilliantly to lift the Overall Runners up trophy. Raghav Nandyal
and Kartik Gupta of Grade X bagged the first position in the Junior Quiz category,
Samantak Mitra and Shivam Sehgal of Grade IX bagged the second position in the Rocketile event,
Arvind Kapoor and Vrishank Bhardwaj of Grade XII bagged the third position in Senior Quiz while Mayank Gupta of Grade XI and Manik Gaiha of Grade X won the third prize (Consolation) in the Glidomania event.
68TH INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS.
The 68th Independence Day was celebrated amidst great fanfare and national fervor at the Suncity school grounds on August 15, 2014. The
sprawling venue was bedecked with tri- coloured three dimensional installations that were breathtaking, providing the perfect backdrop for
the programme. Parents thronged the venue to join in the celebration.
The event commenced with the House March Past contingent in perfect
synchronization and the school
and house banners fluttered with
pride. This was followed by the
four elements’ drill ‘Laybadh’.
The audience witnessed the
enthralling cultural performances like the tableau display
called ’Jhalkiyan’. The tableau
depicted four major aspects of
India – pre- independence ,
sports, woman empowerment
and science &technology. The
Early Year Programme students did a heart warming depiction of ‘WAR’ titled NANHE SENANI. The occasion was graced by the Chief
Guest, Lt. Gen. Prakash Katoch, Param Vir Chakra, for the 1971 Indo-Pak
war, who inspired the students with his message of patriotism and love for
the nation. The school Vice Chairman , Mr. Ankit Goel presided over the
function. The Head Girl delivered the vote of thanks. The celebration culminated with the National Anthem and later on kite flying.
MI-ME INTER-SCHOOL MEET 2014
‘MI-Me’ event was organized by Early Year Programme on August 29, 2014. MI-Me is an inter
-school event based on Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences. Various schools
participated in the event like Manav Rachna International, Ryan Global, K.R Manglam,Scottish
High International, Delhi Public School-SushantLok, Delhi Public School Sector 45, Lotus Valley
International, Amnion and Fairies World.All the competitions held in this event were based on
‘Multiple Intelligences’. Two students from each school participated in the competitions like
‘Mingle the Jingle’, “Printometry” and ‘Shopping Spree” race for the Pre-nursery, Creative
Hands, ‘Obstacle Race” and ‘Add Mad World” for the Nursery and the Quiz”, Warlmetry”and
“Roll the Yoga Mat” race for Kindergarten The last exclusive category was ‘MI-me’ champion
of the day for Nursery and Kindergarten where only one child from each school participated in
all the above competitions. Ms Neelam Jolly was the chief guest.The event was also graced by
Mrs Mansi Goel, member of the management committee, Ms Pragya Singh, Principal Vishwas
NGO and Ms Neeti Kaushik, Principal of K.R Manglam School. Various entertaining performances were given by our Suncitizens and children from Vishwas NGO which were appreciated by all.
The esteemed judges were given mementos and clay souvenirs as a token of love and gratitude. All the participants were given gifts, clay souvenirs made by EYP children and participation certificates.
The chairman of the School, Mr L.N Goel gave away the prizes. The MI-Me champion of the
day rolling trophy was won byDakshMahapaha from Scottish High School . The MI-Me champion of the day rolling trophy for Kindergarten was won by Kalrav Gupta from Suncity School
but being the host school the rolling trophy was passed on to GaurishKaushik from DPS Sector 45

FROM THE SPORTS ARENA
NINTH INTER HOUSE TABLE TENNIS TOURNAMENT
The 9th Inter– House Table Tennis Tournament was held in the Suncity
School auditorium, on 18th July 2014. The occasion was graced by Mr. Rahul
Sethi, a national level player,who is also a parent.The winners in the different
age categories were (Under-10 ) Ronil Chatterjee (Pacific House), (Under-12)
Manya Malhotra (Indian House), (Under-14) Krishna Mehndiratta (Atlantic
House) and (Under-16) Rema Madhusudan (Indian House).
SUNCITY STRIKES GOLD AT THE OPEN ROLLER SKATING TOURNAMENT, TERI
The Roller Skating Suncitizens came out with flying colors at the
Open Roller Skating Championship held at Teri Baliawas Gurgaon on 2 & 3 August 2014. It was their hard work, determination
mingled with passion for skating that made them achieve 7
Gold, 1 Silver, 2 Bronze medal and the overall trophy. Kudos to
the Roller Skating Team comprising Ananya Vishwanathan (I),
Ananya Sultania (VI), Kritika Mann(VII), Arjun Sai Ram (III),
Yashika Verma (VIII), Devika Shenoy(IV) Jayin Khanna(V), and Ananya Sultani(VI) who were the
winners of the Gold, Sia Prathambir(VI), the winner of the Silver, Parth Sharma (V) , the winner
of the bronze.
SIXTH INTER HOUSE SWIMMING COMPETITION
The sixth Inter House Swimming Competition was held on 22nd August 2014 in the school premises. Competing in different categories
such as 50 metres free style, 50 metres breast stroke and 50 metres
back stroke, the students of the Arctic House emerged winners and
Amya Rao of grade VII was adjudged the “Best Swimmer of the
Meet”. In previous years Amya has won several prizes in swimming
at the district, state and national levels.
The Monsoons have retreated and September has set in firmly with action in the shape
of Examinations.
