Common Core Meets Cardboard
More than 120 Belleview
students participated in
an event to foster creativity and imagination
called the Global Cardboard Challenge. The
county wide event, run
by Glen White of Columbia College, was based
on a parent challenging
their 9 year old to build
an arcade out of cardboard. Families of the
students donated recyclable materials including cardboard, plastic
bottles, egg cartons and
tape towards the project. Students were in
teams where they designed, revised and
built their creations.
Included in Belleview’s
creations were castles,
cars, bowling alley,
Lady Liberty and a
stage with a microphone
and boom box. Students
voted and the top 3 will
move on to the county
competition on October
11th at the Tuolumne
County Economic Development Authority’s
Innovation Lab, 101
Hospital Road in
Sonora.
The winners are:
The Peacock - created by Madeline and Riley
The Race Car - created by Quentin, Bradley, and Michael
The Castle - created by Sawyer, Melissa, and Annaliese

Kristin Cruz
Riley pushes herself to succeed even
when academic tasks are difficult. She
takes on challenges with a positive attitude and gives everything that she does
100% effort. Riley is not afraid to be

stand on issues in and out of the classroom. Riley is kind and compassionate
to those around her and is an example of
a successful student.
Belleview Elementary School is proud to welcome Kristin Cruz as our new school secretary. Kristin was born and raised in Fremont,
California. She attended grammar school and

My name is Toni Hansen and I’m the Box Tops for Education® Coordinator at Belleview Elementary
School. I wanted to send out a letter to introduce myself and let you know about the Box Tops program at
our school.
Box Tops for Education is a national school earnings program that has been around since 1996.
Since then, schools across the country have earned over half a billion dollars from Box Tops to buy whatever they need.
ONE OF THE THINGS I LIKE ABOUT BOX TOPS IS HOW EASY IT IS!
HERE’S HOW YOU CAN HELP OUR SCHOOL:
1. Clip Box Tops, found on hundreds of products, and send them to school. Each
Box Top is worth 10¢ for our school. This is what they look like:
2. If you shop for anything online - clothes, shoes, even plane tickets check to see if the store you're shopping at is part of the Box Tops
Marketplace©. Over 300 stores have partnered with Box Tops so you can
automatically earn eBoxTops© for our school with qualified purchases.
All you have to do is start at BTFE.com/marketplace before you shop.
3. Make sure you sign up to support our school at BTFE.com. It's
free and once you do, you'll be able to track our school's earnings and
enter for chances to win extra cash for our school.
You can check out a list of participating products on the Parents' Club bulletin board in the cafeteria or visit
BTFE.com. Every student that brings in 100 BoxTops will earn a $5 WalMart gift card and we will also
hold drawings throughout the year for additional winners of a $5 WalMart gift card. Please make sure to
have your child's first name and last initial on the back of every BoxTop to be considered for the prize.
If we all work together, we can make a big difference for our school!
