“WEAR BLUE FOR DREW” FUNDRAISER TOMORROW: The Community Cougars are sponsoring a $1
spirit dress fundraiser for baby Drew Moscona. With a donation, students may wear a blue top with uniform bottoms
or jeans. Please note that “jeans” on ANY out-of-uniform day shall be traditional denim—-no colored jeans allowed!
Girls may wear flat shoes/boots; tennis shoes must be worn with socks. Students may also accessorize with a baby
blanket, baby bib, or small stuffed animal (to fit in backpack.) Accessories cannot be donated. If sending a check,
please make payable to “Drew Moscona Trust Fund.” To find out more, please visit www.carepages.com and search

CONFERENCE DAY INFORMATION:
Attention Elementary Parents:
Pre-K, K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th Grade Conference Day is Monday October 20. Students in these grades will not attend
school on this day. A parent letter will be sent home with additional information. Students do not attend conferences.
Attention Middle School Parents:
5th, 6th, 7th and 8th Grade Conference Day is Friday October 17. Students in these grades do not attend school on this
day. A parent letter will be sent home with additional information. Students do not attend conferences.
STUDENT PRIVACY: Most members of our parent community have online presence through social media sites;
while the faculty and staff do not “police” these forums, we are obligated to answer complaints of privacy infractions
while students are on campus or at a school sponsored event. Please be mindful of the following:
*Posting “groups shots” of students in a school uniform or at a school event to a personal social media account should
only be done with parental permission of all those depicted. We have many students whose families have denied permission for their images to be used online due to difficult situations including custody arrangements , adoption, ect…
If possible, please try post only your own children in uniform or at a school event. Monitor your privacy settings.

*There have been several concerns expressed over information being shared to an “open” parent group on Facebook.
While members can be added to the group, anyone can search and see its content. Pictures of students in uniform
while on campus or at a school sponsored event should never be posted on any group site. Be mindful of who may be
watching before advertising a date and location that a group of children will be meeting.
*The school website and the Cougar newsletter (always available online) are the official vehicles for information.
Additionally, the school maintains the facebook page “St. Jude the Apostle School Baton Rouge.” Questions about
school policy and procedures always be sent as a “message” to the page or directly via email to [email protected].
GIRLS ON THE RUN: Girls on the run will NOT be meeting until further notice. The program is temporaily
halted until we find a parent who can assist. The volunteer(s) must comply with Diocesan child protection requirements in order to facilitate this program.
BOOK FAIR: If you have not had an opportunity to do so already, please try to visit Sir Read-a-Lots Castle and shop the
book fair. It will be open the remainder of today and until 12 noon tomorrow. Thanks in advance to our parents, students, and teacher for your support. Mrs. Legendre will have a more detailed report of our Knights in Shining Readers
next week :)
UNDER THE LIGHTS: On Wednesday, October 15th, our SJS football teams will play their annual evening game
against Our Lady of Mercy. Throughout the games, we will call to the field our intramural soccer teams, swimming,
cross country, and girls basketball players. The concession stand will be open with hamburgers and jambalaya for dinner.
3rd/4th grade plays at 5pm, 5th grade plays at 5:45pm, and 7th/8th play at 7:00pm. Click here for more information and

8th GRADE RETREAT THANK-YOU: The 8th grade retreat was held Friday on the
beautiful grounds of St. Gabriel Catholic Church. Thank you to the following parents, volunteers and teachers for helping to make the 8th grade retreat a great success: Andrea

KENDRA SCOTT: Please note that Kendra Scott jewelry located in Perkins Rowe will be hosting a “Kendra Gives
Back” night on Thursday, Oct. 16th. From 5-8pm, shoppers will be treated to champagne and cupcakes; and 20% of all
purchases made during this time frame will be donated to St. Jude School!
BOOKS ‘N’ BBQ FAMILY NIGHT: Thanks to everyone who enjoyed our fall family night last Thursday. We enjoyed seeing so many of our Cougars on campus– and lots in costume! Lots of great finds were to be had at the book fair
and the Men’s Club BBQ was delicious. SJMC donated $1540 towards the Annual — that’s 3.85 ipads for our kids!
Lastly, our girls basketball teams provided amazing entertainment for the evening. Thanks to all our families for continuing to support St. Jude School!

KOC TEACHER OF THE MONTH: Barbara Sicard is our teacher of the month. Mrs. Sicard is a middle
school math teacher at St. Jude teaching 6th and 8th grade students; she is in her 14th year of teaching in both the
public schools and Catholic schools between taking time off to raise a family.
This is her second year teaching 6th grade Honors, Algebra I, and Pre-Algebra at
St. Jude. Barbara graduated from the University of New Orleans and took
graduate classes at McNeese University and LSU. She has been married for 24
years to Paul and has been a member of St. Jude Parish for 20 years. They have
three children who have all graduated from St. Jude School: Peter, Sarah, and
Elizabeth. She is currently involved in other activities besides teaching. She is
the secretary for the Catholic Committee on Scouting, a Religious Emblem
Counselor, Coordinator of the Rosary Program for scouting, Co-coordinator of
the Saints Program for scouting, Girl Scout Troop leader, Girl Scout Cookie Chair and uniform Chair for the
Catholic High School Marching Band She is also a lector and Eucharistic Minister at St. Jude.

PUBLIC AWARENESS NOTICES: The following are annual mandatory announcement to parents:
In compliance with the EPA’s Asbestos Emergency Act, the plan is available in the school office for any parent who
wishes to read it. Our school was found to have NO building materials containing asbestos. St. Jude the Apostle School
owns and operates a master meter natural gas distribution system on the school campus. The gas system consists of an
underground network of pipelines. The purpose of the gas system is to provide a reliable and safe economical source of
energy for heating purposes to the buildings adjacent to the underground gas pipelines. The pipeline system has the capacity to reliably deliver natural gas.
HALLOWEEN SPIRIT DRESS: Please help the St. Jude Beta Club raise money for Drew Moscona Trust
Fund! On Friday, October 31st a student may wear Halloween free dress with a $1 donation.. Attire guidelines
are either a Halloween theme shirt OR black and/or orange shirt with jeans (no colored jeans) or uniform
bottoms. Girls may wear flats or boots. Socks must be worn with tennis shoes.
HEALTH HIGHLIGHTS (from Nurse Mickel): BREAKFAST! Don’t skip it! Four reasons to eat breakfast every
day: ENERGY-create a breakfast with staying power using protein and carbohydrate combos to energize. IMPROVED
CONCENTRATION-eating a healthy breakfast improves brain function, especially memory and recall. BETTER
GRADES-students who eat breakfast perform better academically. HEALTHY WEIGHT-eating breakfast leads to healthier food choices throughout the day, which can positively impact weight and long-term health.
ATHLETICS
UNDER THE LIGHTS: Please mark your calendars for Wednesday, October 15th for our
“Under the Lights” football game. We will take on Mercy; the 3rd & 4th grade will play at
5:00pm, the 5th grade team will play at 5:45pm and the 7/8th will play at 7pm. We will introduce
our PK-2nd grade intramural soccer players at halftime of the 5:45 game. Halftime of the 7/8th
grade game, we will introduce our girls basketball players (4th-8th), along with the swim and
cross country teams. The concession stand will be open with jambalaya, hamburgers, and hot
dogs. Please make plans to join us at the field (off GSRI) for a fun night of fellowship and football!
CROSS COUNTRY: Congratulations to the SJS Cross Country teams who ran in the Baton Rouge
Sports Foundation Meet on Saturday, Sept. 27th and again in the St. Joseph's Academy Invitational on
Saturday, Oct. 4th. The boys were led by Joseph P., Bradley W., Bryce P., Britt M., Jack L., Bennett S.,
and Eli W. In the girls race, Sophie M., led the way (and once again broke a school record!) followed by
Ava D., Anne Marie G., Abigail M., Mary Claire S., Natalie M., Catherine M., Claire B., and Jennifer
M. Way to go runners!
FOOTBALL: Both 5/6th and 7/8th football teams were victorious this past weekend against the Ascension Catholic Bulldogs in Donaldsonville with respective scores of 14-6 and 26-6. Our next foe is St.
George at their stadium this Sunday. While their annual fair will be going on, the game should provide
wonderful festivities for all.
GIRLS BASKETBALL: Last Thursday evening during Books ‘N
BBQ, the 5th grade girls defeated St. Thomas More and the 6th grade
lost to Aloysius. The 8th grade girls played magnificently (against
Aloysius) with a huge 4th period comeback that fell just short. It was
the highlight of the night as was the tremendous support from all of the
SJS students who attended the game! Last weekend, the 5th grade girls
beat St. George to take 3rd place at the MBS tournament.
Great job!
ST. JUDE GOLF CLASSIC: Please make plans to support the St. Jude Golf Classic being held on
Thursday, October 23rd at The Island in Plaquemine. You can play in the tournament, or provide sponsorship, or volunteer to help run the afternoon. Information and a registration forms are posted on the
athletic page of the school website by clicking HERE.
LOUISIANA MARATHON: SJS will be participating in the Louisiana Kids Marathon Saturday, January 17th. If your student (PK-8th) is interested in running the one mile event, a registration form can be
found on our school website or below. Please print and send with your child to school in a marked envelope. Mrs. Moses and Mr. Kobetz will be talking about the event during enrichment with all students
and will provide a training schedule for at home use.
HOME & SCHOOL NEWS
GIFT WRAP: A great big THANK YOU goes out to all of our students and parents for making this
year's Innisbrook Gift Wrap and Cookie Dough Sale a HUGE success!!! Our total participation was
76%! The TOP SELLER and winner of our Family Movie Night basket was Christina Mack 8A. The top
selling class receiving the Party in a Box, provided by Innisbrook, is Mrs. Thyra Caverly's first grade
class. Their class participation was 83%! We will update you soon on the anticipated delivery date.
