System in Waycross as our last September speaker. Dr. Calamia
recently took the System’s helm in Waycross after 22 years in
Jacksonville, Mayo.
Dr. Calamia is passionate about Mayo’s primary value: the needs
of the patient comes first. This commitment is expected from

hope and contribute to health and well-being through giving the

Dr. Calamia. She has been in Mayo Clinic since 1985 with Jacksonville and Waycross campuses. She is now full time in Waycross.

made in outreach centers surrounding Waycross.

Steve Pope presented Ashby Nix Executive Director of Satilla

by donations for the one full-time and one part-time workers.
She said Riverkeeper works with the community the legislature,
government agencies and experts to: restore wetlands that
improves water quality, prevent flooding and provide habitat for
wildlife; protect the Satilla from pollution to improve water quality; and educate communities along the river about their right to
clean water for fishing, swimming, and drinking.
Riverkeeper works the 260 miles to Jekyll Island, the adjoining
land, ecology of mussels, water, fish (removing flathead catfish),
history of ferry boats and communities on the river, Forestry,
Recreations and issues (such as trash, quality of water, invasive

River clean ups are starting at Jamestown landing, educationadopt a landing, keep Waycross-Ware County Beautiful, contaminated fish (coal fired energy plants runnoff ), land use practices,
