While it’s not a secret society, it is an exclusive club that most members don’t know about and only a few qualify to join. Of course I’m talking about our “Quarter Century Club.” Each year, we gather at the historic Palmetto Club for a luncheon to honor those who have been members of the DBAAR for 25 years or more. This year, our event will be held on October 24th. As President-Elect, I attended this luncheon last year, and as President this year, I’ll have the honor to preside over this year’s luncheon. It’s a great opportunity to catch up with members who have been there, done that, bought the t-shirt and took it back. Literally, there will be centuries’ worth of real estate experience in that room! These members have been the backbone of this association and have helped to make it the great organization that it is today. This year, we will recognize the newest members of the Quarter Century Club: Marge Allison James A Himsel Darlene Beck Hinton Cyril Hudak Michele Talley Lenharr Kathy S. Marandino Harry E Parker Carole A Palmer Rosaline E. Rader Karen L. Rearden Sissy P. Spikes Timothy J. Sykes Throughout the years, these members have gained much wisdom and knowledge. We applaud that experience during the luncheon, and I wanted to exercise my Presidential prerogative to recognize ALL the members of the Quarter Century Club in my President’s Message. I thank each one of you for your years of membership and look forward to many more! Page 3 Quarter Century Club Robert L. Adams M. Volume 36, Issue 10 Copyright Infringement: When in Doubt—Don’t Use That Photo! Yet another DBAAR member has received a demand letter from a law firm representing Getty Images as a result of an agent from a different brokerage posting a copyrighted image in the DBAAR Multiple Listing Service. DBAAR has held a seminar on the topic, and created “The DMCA: a Real Estate Broker's Risk Reduction Guide to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act” which is available online. Still, members persist in posting copyrighted photos in the MLS, which puts every broker at risk. How? Once the copyrighted image is disseminated through IDX and shows up on your website, you become the “end user” in legal terms and are responsible for the infringement. Page 6 The National Association of REALTORS has recently released a video which explains the issue.
