Mayfield School Newsletter
15th October 2014
Dear Parents and Community members,
Principal’s messages:
Welcome back to Term 4. Hopefully you and your children managed to spend some quality family
time together in the holidays.
This term is another busy one. We have the Life Education caravan visiting us this Friday and next
Monday. We have started practising both for Athletics which will be at Hinds schools on Tuesday
28th October and the end of year production, the Button Box. You can help us by encouraging your
child(ren) to practice their lines and songs at home.
Later in the term we have a week of swimming for both the Juniors and Seniors and the Room 2
camp which is on the 10th and 11th November.
In the holidays the staff were involved in professional development. We met with outside facilitators
to look at our school curriculum to review what we are doing and the way forward in the future. We
also looked at our how well we are incorporating information technologies into our classroom
programmes and how we can improve in this area.
This term we require children to wear a wide brimmed hat. We have sunscreen available in all
classrooms. From now on our school newsletters will come out fortnightly. We will still
continue to communicate via email about important events. Individual class notices
will still go out as usual.
Kind regards
Richard Kidd.

BEGINNERS GUIDE TO ATHLETICS!
Each year the combined school athletics are held down at Hinds School.
There are many schools participating on this day which makes this a very
busy day. Here are a few tips to help make your day run a bit easier…
#
There is a timetable and a map of where each event will take place and a sports card for
each child participating to keep track of how they have done. This will be sent home with
your child the day before athletics.
#
There are no buses running on this day. Parents are to transport their children to
and from the event and are responsible for your child/ren throughout the day.
#
You can get to Hinds school by taking the Lismore Mayfield Road all the way till you come
to Fountains Road and then turn left. Follow Fountains Road until you get to Hinds
Lismore Road and turn right. This will take you into Hinds and you will see the school on
your right.
#
Mayfield School will have our banner there so you can put all you bags etc by our next to
it when you arrive so this way you will know where everything is come morning tea and
lunch time.
#
Children must be in the Mayfield School Sports uniform which is the Mayfield Sports Top
(handed out the Friday before), navy shorts and sports shoes. Sometimes the weather
can be changeable so bring something warm as well as sunscreen and a hat.
#
Remember to bring morning tea and lunch for yourself and your child/ren. Hinds school
will be running a BBQ so you can buy some lunch there but this must be done before the
sports start in the morning. You will be issued with a ticket to confirm your order on
collection at lunch time. Bring something to sit on as the ground may be damp and don’‛t
forget to bring water for your child.
#
Sports starts at 9am sharp and is finished by 3pm. This is a family day so grandparents
etc can come along too! Good luck to all the children participating and have a great day.
