GATORTALES
October 2014
From Our Director
Freshman Application Deadlines
Happy Fall from the University of Florida! The temperatures
are starting to change a bit, and campus is abuzz with the
excitement of Homecoming and the busyness of midterms.
I am sure that a similar excitement may be felt at your
schools as you continue to assist your seniors with their
post high school plans. Thank you for all of the support you
will provide to your students this fall.
There are three main deadlines students should keep in
mind when applying to the University of Florida. The first is
our priority application deadline, November 1. If applying
after this date, students are only admitted to the university
on a space-available basis. Secondly, students should
submit the SSAR, or Student Self-Reported Academic
Record, by December 1. The SSAR replaces the process
of submitting traditional transcripts (see below for more
information). Lastly, SATs and/or ACTs need to be in our
office by December 31. If you have any questions about
these deadlines, or would like more information, please be
sure to check out our new Office of Admissions website at
www.admissions.ufl.edu.
In my short time at the University of Florida, I have learned
more about the many opportunities that are available
to your students should they be admitted and choose
to enroll. While the intent of this newsletter is to provide
you with updates about UF, we hope you take the time,
or encourage your students to take the time, to learn
more about the opportunities at UF. Students may learn
more through our website, www.admissions.ufl.edu, or
through Twitter and Facebook @UFAdmissions. Ultimately,
the best way to learn about UF is to visit us in Gainesville
through one of our tours and information sessions. We also
welcome students to visit us during our Fall Open House
scheduled for Monday, November 24. Given the cooler
weather, now is a great time to visit Gainesville!
Student Self-reported Academic Record
The Student Self-reported Academic Record (SSAR) is UF's
new self-reported transcript. It is an online form in which
students enter their high school courses, dual enrollment
courses, and 9th–11th year grades. Students also list senior
year courses in progress. All freshmen applying to UF must
submit a SSAR with the exception of students who have
already graduated, students who have completed a GED
or students attending international schools not patterned
after the U.S. system. For more information about these
exceptions and the SSAR, we encourage you to visit the
Frequently Asked Questions found on our website
www.admissions.ufl.edu/ugrad/ssar.html.
Again, thank you for the work you will do to aid your
students in their postsecondary plans. We look forward to
meeting you and your students when we visit your areas. If
we may be of service, do not hesitate to contact our office.
Go Gators!
