The Dedication of the Lateran Basilica
"When he was raised from the dead, his
disciples remembered that he had said this, and they
came to believe." Jesus predicted his resurrection in
today's Gospel. But it wasn't until after the disciples
witnessed the miraculous event that they realized
what he had been talking about. At the time, Jesus'
words seemed mysterious, even confusing. Those
who heard him understandably thought his reference
to "this temple" was about the Jewish house of
worship. But it wasn't. He was talking about his
body. This only became clear later.
As the saying goes, "hindsight is twentytwenty." How often do we find ourselves in the
midst of a situation that doesn't make sense at the
time? We question the "meaning" of a sickness, a
lost job, a betrayal, or a disappointment. But then,
after time has passed, we can begin to see it from
another angle. In fact, many times we begin to see
how good came out of these tough situations. St.
Paul says, "We know that all things work for good
for those who love God," (Rom 8:28).
Sometimes it's hard to trust in God's promises,
especially when his plan seems mysterious or
confusing. But just as the disciples learned that Jesus
knew what he was talking about, we can believe that
too. He tells us that he is "the way and the truth and
the life" (Jn 14:6). Although the way may seem
indirect, Jesus' perspective is bigger than ours. He
knows how to lead us to the fullness of life, in this
world and the next. The path may not be one that we
would choose. Even Jesus had to journey through
the cross before his resurrection-the temple of his
body was destroyed before it was rebuilt. But
looking back, it's obvious that God's plans really do
work out for the best.

Liturgical Ministers
Today, Sunday, November 9th, is the last day to submit
your schedule requests for November 30 thru February
15. The preferred method of submission is to email to:
[email protected]. At this time, please do not
place them in the collection basket. If need be, they may
be dropped off at the rectory. Sign up sheets for our
Christmas and New Year’s Liturgies are in the back of the
church.
Calendar of Cash
Beginning this weekend, Calendar of Cash lottery tickets
will be available in the back of the church
after each Mass. You do not have to pay for
your ticket until you return your ticket stub.
Cost is $25 and each number is good for the
entire year. Please be supportive. Calendars
will also still be available at the rectory office. Thank
you!
Pro-Life Christmas Cards Available!
Citizens Concerned for Human Life, Blair County Chapter, will have Christmas cards
available for purchase after weekend Masses, November 15-16 and
November 22-23. Three beautiful
designs are being offered, one of
the Madonna and Child, one of the
Infant Jesus and the third of the Three Kings. The cost is
$7 for a package of 11 cards. A flier with order details
will remain in the vestibule through the upcoming Christmas Season. Your purchase will help support the pro-life
work of CCHL in Blair County. For more information,
call Dorothy, 505-2886.
Did you know that in our
country, compared to 50
years ago, there are 20,000
fewer priests and 129,000
fewer religious sisters? At
the same time, the Catholic
population has continued to grow steadily. Many factors
have contributed to the decline: growing secularism, a
lengthened period of adolescence, attitudes about celibacy, etc. During Vocation Awareness week, please pray
that young people in today’s society will hear and respond
to God’s call. And do your part to encourage them to consider the priesthood and religious life.
THE DEDICATION OF THE LATERAN BASILICA
.
PRO-LIFE CORNER
A reality of war is the MIA (missing
in action), those who did not return
home. In the war on the pre-born,
57,000,000 human beings are missing in action as well. They too, did
not return home. Those soldiers who
did not return from war, and those pre-born who died are
all a great loss to our nation and weaken us as a county.
Catholic Daughters of the Americas
Catholic Daughters of the Americas Prince Gallitzin
Court #2625 will meet on Monday, November 10th. At
6:30 p.m. for a social followed by a meeting at 7:00 p.m.
in the St Rose of Lima Social Hall. New members are
welcome.
Liturgical Reflection…
Today the Church commemorates the Dedication of
the Lateran Basilica, the cathedral
church of Rome. The Church is the
Lord’s beloved Bride who calls to him
and through him offers worship to the
eternal Father. In the liturgy the whole
public worship is performed by the
Mystical Body of Jesus Christ, that is,
the Head and his members. Every liturgical celebration,
because it is an action of Christ the Priest and of his Body
which is the Church, is a sacred action surpassing all others. No other action of the Church can equal the effectiveness of liturgy.
Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, Number 7.
Grief Shared is Grief Diminished
Anyone who has experienced grief (parents/children/
grandparents/family members/friends) is welcome to attend. Our next Grief/Faith Support Group meeting is
Tuesday, November 18th from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the
Formation Center. We will continue these healing sessions every third Tuesday of each month at the same time.
Please call Mary Catherine McGregor at 942-2763 for
reservations.

Anniversary Plans
On July 13th, 1890, Fr. Thomas P.
Smith, the newly appointed pastor,
celebrated the first Mass for the
newly established Sacred Heart Parish in a building on the corner of 7th
Avenue and 24th Street. In 2015, our
Parish Family will celebrate 125
years of ministry. We will be celebrating this great milestone with several events and activities throughout 2015/16. The highlight of the year
long celebration will be a Mass of Thanksgiving in
Honor of the parish’s 125th anniversary, concelebrated
by Bishop Mark at the 12:00 Noon Mass on Sunday,
July 12th, 2015. A Dinner Celebration will follow at
the Jaffa Shrine.
We would like to create a Christian theme slogan. We
are asking all parishioners to take part in this by submitting your thoughts and writing a theme slogan for the
event. The slogan should be limited to one sentence and
no more than 15 words. If your slogan is chosen, you
and your immediate family will be awarded tickets for
the celebration dinner following the Mass on July 12th.
The deadline to submit the theme slogan will be Sunday, November 30, 2014. Your entry can be dropped
off at the rectory or placed in the collection basket in a
sealed envelope and marked
125th Anniversary
Theme. If you have any questions, feel free to contact
Jeff Arpino at 932-6452 or call the rectory at 943-8553.
Anniversary Committee Meeting
The committee to help plan our 125th anniversary celebration will meet this Tuesday, November 11th at 6:30
p.m. in the Formation Center.
Lost and Found

child or someone you know has lost such a ring, please
