from non-perishable items and food cards donated by
parishioners on Parish Food Sundays. Food is provided
to all who ask and no one is refused. Please support this
most worthwhile mission.
If you are in need of food or know someone who is,
please contact the Pantry directly. Referrals are taken on

10 Monthly Themes Bulletin Reflection - November 2014: Created for Joy
In order to help us prepare for the World Meeting of Families and the anticipated visit from Pope Francis, a catechism
on family life entitled, “Love is Our Mission”: The Family Fully Alive, has been prepared. Each month for the next ten
months, our parish will reflect on one chapter from this catechism. You can order a copy of this beautifully illustrated
catechism and learn about the World Meeting of Families at WorldMeeting2015.org.
November 2014: Chapter 1: Created For Joy
“Love is Our Mission” because love is our origin and destiny. Created in the image of God, a human being is created for
communion, which means that loving God and neighbor is the reason for our existence. Catholics believe these things
because of Jesus, our bedrock and cornerstone. Jesus suffered and yet persevered in love; he was crucified and yet rose
again. In Jesus, we believe that the Creator of the universe became one of us, revealing not only who God is, but also
who we are created to be and become. In a world of anxiety and doubt, Jesus is trustworthy. When we follow Jesus,
body and soul, even when it hurts and requires sacrifice, we are living lives of integrity, for only in living this way will
our lives coincide with the reason for our existence. This brings us great joy. We sin and stumble, but the God we meet
in Christ is faithful even when we are not. God’s forgiveness is a gift that gives us back to ourselves, enabling us to
embrace our mission and destiny anew. Catholic sacraments and moral teachings serve this destiny. The sacraments are
a genuine encounter with Christ, while the moral teachings show what Christ-like love looks like in particular situations.
Catholic life summons us to heroism and adventure even in ordinary daily life. The world is charged with the beauty and
grace of God, and neighbors who need our love and kindness are all around us. Please keep reading the Love Is Our
Mission catechism for more! ~ Dr. Christopher C. Roberts, editor, Love is Our Mission Preparatory Catechism
Did you know? The World Meeting of Families event was established by Pope St. John Paul II in 1994. It is held every
three years in cities across the world. 2015 is the first time it will be in the United States. Its goals are (1) to strengthen
family bonds and (2) to give witness to the fundamental role of the family in society. Learn more at

Our Lady of Guadalupe Ladies Auxiliary
THE DEDICATION OF THE LATERAN BASILICA
“With God’s Grace, we are committed to faithfully living
His Word by adherence to his commandments, nurturing
our families, sustaining our parish, school and
community through charitable works and evangelizing by
word and deed to share His message.”
St. John Lateran is the pope’s church, the cathedral of the
Diocese of Rome where the Bishop of Rome presides.
Our Lady of Guadalupe Ladies Auxiliary Mission
Statement
Our Lady of Guadalupe Ladies Auxiliary invites all
woman, 18 years and older, to come and join us. We
work closely with the Saint Michael the Archangel
Knights of Columbus and other school and parish
organizations in supporting our parish, school and
community.
We meet on the second Sunday of every month, from
September to June, after the 10:00 am Mass.
The first basilica on the site was built in the fourth
century when Constantine donated land he had received
from the wealthy Lateran family. That structure and its
successors suffered fire, earthquake and the ravages of
war, but the Lateran remained the church where popes
were consecrated until the popes returned from Avignon
in the 14th century to find the church and the adjoining
palace in ruins. Pope Innocent X commissioned the
present structure in 1646. One of Rome’s most imposing
churches, the Lateran’s towering facade is crowned with
15 colossal statues of Christ, John the Baptist, John the
Evangelist and 12 doctors of the Church. Beneath its high
altar rest the remains of the small wooden table on
which, tradition holds, St. Peter himself celebrated Mass.

This year we are also asking the students to bring in
extra change they might have earned. We are trying to
collect enough money to purchase one turkey from each
grade. If anyone would like to donate a turkey, simply
send it to the school and we will store it in our freezer.
Thanks in advance for your support in this very worthy
cause.

TYSON PROJECT A+ PROGRAM
St. Michael’s has the chance to raise up to $12,000.00 in
extra school funds this year by participating in the Tyson
Project A+ program, sponsored by Tyson Foods.
Students, parents, grandparents, caregivers, teachers and
other parish community members are able to collect
Tyson Project A+ labels from Tyson product boxes and
bags. Tyson will in turn send the school a check in the
amount of 24 cents per label. Funds raised can be spent
on anything the school needs, including supplies,
equipment, building repairs and various school programs
that will benefit our children.
You can find more information on the Tyson A+ Project
program on the web at: projectaplus,tyson.com. Or you
may contact: Sue Ward, Tyson Project A+ Program

There will be a box in the back of the church, by the
basket for the grocery store receipts that you can drop
your label in. Labels will then be collected weekly after

YOUCAT
The Youth Catechism of the Catholic Church
Is someone a sinner if he experiences strong passions
within himself?
No, passions can be very valuable. They are designed to
lead to and reinforce good actions; only when they are
disordered do the passions contribute to evil. [17671770, 1773-1775]
Passions that are ordered to the good become virtues.
They then become the motive force of a life of fighting
for love and justice. Passions that overpower a person,
rob him of his freedom and entice him to evil, we call
vice.”

POPE FRANCIS ON THE ROSARY
“The Rosary always accompanies me in my life
it is a prayer from my heart”
“Mary joins us, she fights at our side. She supports
Christians in the fight against the forces of evil.
Especially through prayer, through the rosary.
Hear me out, the rosary... Do you pray the Rosary
each day?
Our Lady had shared in the struggles of her son, Jesus
Christ. She suffered along with him, and so when Jesus
resurrected, she was also given redemption.
“Our Mother, we can add, represents us. She is our
Sister, our first Sister to be granted redemption and taken
to Heaven.”
Because of her suffering and redemption, Our Lady is
also the most iconic image of hope. She is close to those
who suffer throughout the world, and she provides them
the hope to overcome their struggle.
Pope Francis has dedicated his pontificate to Our Lady of
Fatima, who has told us through her message to the
visionaries of the importance of praying the Rosary
daily.
“Pray the Rosary every day in honor of Our Lady of the
Rosary to obtain peace in the world . . . for she alone can
save it.”
“God has placed peace in her hands, and it is from the
Immaculate Heart that men must ask it.”
Pope Francis urges Catholics to pray the Rosary in the
fight against evil
Pope prescribes daily rosary for what ails you
Pope Francis admitted he wasn't a pharmacist, but he
didn't hesitate being the spokesman for the heart-healthy
benefits of 59 little pills strung together: the rosary.
"I want to recommend some medicine for all of you. "It's
a spiritual medicine."
Holding up a white medicine box with an anatomical
drawing of the human heart on it.
"Don't forget to take it," he said. "It's good for your heart,
for your soul, for your whole life."
The sheet recommends daily use of the beads for both
adults and children, but adds that it can be repeated as
often as necessary. It also notes that receiving the
sacraments increases the efficacy of the prescription. It
also states categorically that no negative side effects have
been reported.
Praying the rosary, he said is "a spiritual aid for our soul
and for spreading love, forgiveness and brotherhood to
everyone.”
