Mission Statement
We, the people of Mary, Queen of Peace, are called to be
a Catholic faith community centered around prayer and
worship and embodying Gospel values. We are a family of
Christians committed to growth in faith and holiness as signs
of God’s presence in the world. We act in imitation of Christ,
by reaching beyond ourselves in service to others.

Pastoral Council
Baptisms are celebrated on the second and fourth Sundays of the month,
after the 10:30 Mass. Parents who have not yet received pre-baptismal
instruction are required to attend a Baptismal Preparation Session. For

The month of November is upon us. In the rich history
of the Church, November has been seen as a very special time
to pray for and remember our beloved dead. Irregardless of the
language one wishes to use in speaking of this holy practice, it
is good to reflect upon this foundational facet of the Creed; the
Communion of the Saints.
Let us take a look at this tenet of our Catholic Faith; in
fact, of all Christendom. The Saints in heaven are named the
Church Triumphant. The Church on this earth (that’s you and
me and all of our brothers and sisters in faith) is named the
Church Militant. The word is used very deliberately. Like it or
not, aware of it or not, you and I are in spiritual battle. The
forces of darkness and death buffet us daily. At times, we are
simply too dull to see it or be aware of it. It is not paranoia; it is
a mature, faith-filled reality that we must be cognizant of. The
third component if you will, of the Communion of the Saints, is
the Church Suffering. All segments of the Church unite in
prayer. Our Faith teaches us that death does not end our relationships with those who have gone before us; they are merely
changed.
One aspect of the Communion of the Saints we need to
clear up is that Vatican II “did away with” the doctrine of Purgatory. In NO way was or is this the case. Quite frankly, I could
never understand why some were so hasty to believe this falsehood or even seem to propagate this mistaken notion. When
properly understood, the Church’s teaching in Purgatory is one
of comfort. We ask those on earth each day to pray for us don’t
we? We ask the Saints to intercede on our behalf (or we
should!). We in turn, pray for our beloved dead. That, in a nutshell, is the Communion of the Saints. That, in the same shell, is
what Purgatory is all about. At times, when conducting a funeral
service at the funeral home or at a committal service, I can see
in the faces of those who do not share our belief in prayer for
dead, a blankness or stare that mirrors an interior sadness.
Being born in November, as were three of the four of
my immediate family, November has always been a special
month for me. The falling leaves, the crispness of the cold air,
and anticipation of what is to come, has helped shape me, if
you will. I often find this time of All Hallows’ Eve, All Saints’ Day
and All Souls’ Day, to be a time of remembrance and reflection.
I loved All Hallows’ Eve, aka “Hallowe’en. I always made
the connection with the Feast of All Saints and, going to a
Catholic school meant we always had a free day the next day!
Remember? Oh, how we liked to tell our Protestant friends we
had a free day!
I loved All Saints Day Mass; the incense, the resplendent white and gold vestments, the hymns. For, even though it
was a free day from school, it was never a question of whether
or not to celebrate Mass that day!
I loved the black vestments of All Souls’ Day and the
emphasis placed on praying for loved ones gone before us.
Somehow, it always made them seem closer and still with us. I
suppose in a little boy’s mind, it helped make the Communion
commitment weekend for the United Catholic Appeal. Please
remember to bring your time, talent and treasure commitment
cards! Extras will be in the pews also. Our parish goal this year
is $. Our parish has benefited in the past from this very appeal.
This is our annual opportunity to recall this act of the larger
Church and do OUR part as well. Of course on the local level,
our parish benefits from donation of time and talent from this
appeal also. This year, 75% of any monies raised over our goal,
will be returned to the parish. When praying for our ancestors in
the faith, we remember that we build on what they lived. In like
fashion, those that come after us, will build on what we ourselves live!

United Catholic Appeal
United Catholic Appeal Intention Weekend is November 8-9,
2014. It is time to reflect on all the blessings our parish community has been given and what we, as parishioners and Catholics, are willing to give back. One hundred percent of your contribution goes toward the ministries of the Archdiocese. To see
how your gifts impact the church, you can view a short four minute video on our new website, www.mqpdanville.org, or on our
Facebook page. Intention cards were mailed to each household
and intention card envelopes will be provided at all the
Masses. Participation, no matter how small, is very important! Please take time to pray about your intended gift to the
United Catholic Appeal.

one place, interested in their faith and glad to be Catholic
alongside other Catholics? See a boatload of 'em at
ICYC. Although we have now entered the "late registration"
period you can still sign up for the IN Catholic Youth
Conference. The cost is now $60, and the t-shirt is not
guaranteed (though archindyym.com will try their best.

*Vocations Trip November 16th- come see where
people explore the religious life, find out what motivates
them, what preparations they undergo. This trip is not just
for folks who are determined to be ordained - learn about
this aspect of our church and service to God, even if you
will follow a different life path. Young men will visit the
Simon Brute Seminary in Indy, young women will travel to
the Our Lady of Grace Monastery in Beech Grove.
Students from grades 7 through 12 are invited.
*Make a difference in the life of disabled children - turn
in your hard plastic bottle caps in the RE building for the
"Caps Of Love" drive, October 26-November 23. Take a
peek at the display in the narthex to see what you can
contribute. Instead of throwing them in the trash, bring
them in to help raise money to buy wheelchairs for needy
kids! Couldn't be easier!
