PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Aoraki Secondary Schools’ Sports Awards
The whole Craighead community is very proud of our students
who were nominated for regional honours in a wide range of
sporting pursuits. Congratulations to these students for
winning titles in Athletics (Lauren Bruce), Cross Country (Amelia Morgan), Multi
-sport (Elizabeth Grace), Rowing (Renee Olley), Sailing (Annabelle Cowan) and
Trap Shooting (Rachel Bell). Renee then went on to win the Female
Sportsperson of the Year award for her achievements at both the World Youth
Rowing Championships, and as a member of the Olympic Youth Rowing Squad.
The Sports Team of the Year went to the Craighead Rowing U15 Coxed Quad
who were unbeaten in their 2013-14 rowing season. This is most impressive
given the very strong competition for this honour. Congratulations to Rowing
Head Coach, Dean Milne, who can be very proud of their achievements. It was
a lovely evening organised by Regional Sports Director, Shaun Campbell and his
team. We very much enjoyed the evening meal, the opportunity to mingle
amongst the other schools and to hear Shane Archbold share his journey to
becoming a 2014 Commonwealth Games Cycling Gold medallist.
Confirmation
Bishop Victoria Matthews conducted
the Confirmation service for the five
Year 13 students who chose to become
confirmed into the Anglican Church on
Monday. The whole Year 13 year group
made up the congregation in our
Chapel. We were joined by staff, the
girls’ proud parents and the
Archdeacon of South Canterbury, the
Reverend Dr Peter Carrell. This was a
lovely occasion and a special way to complete their schooling at Craighead.
End of Year arrangements
Our last day for Seniors was Tuesday this week and we marked the day with a
barbeque hosted by our SADD committee and a social Netball game versus
TBHS (best not mention the score!). Information about external examinations
and end of year arrangements for Seniors has been given to the students and is
also available on the website. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in
the final week in early December
and celebrating with them in our
usual style!
God Bless, Lindy Graham
