Warrandyte Community Bank – Phillipa Tolmie, Rachel Peppas and Jill England attended the
AGM & Grants Awards night for the Warrandyte Community Bank. We were very pleased to be
awarded a cheque for $2,750 towards our appeal for new chairs for the chapel. The Parish would
very much like to thank Phillipa, Rachel and Ana Saro for their enthusiasm and
persistence in pursuing this opportunity. Rachel inspired the panel with the naming of our
application as “Sitting in the Comfort of God” and we look forward to our new chairs arriving in the
next couple of weeks. The Parish is also very grateful for the most generous support from the
Warrandyte Community Bank.
Parish Farewell to our Grade 6’s will be conducted over 2 weekend Masses.
On the 16th of November at our usual Sunday 10.30am Mass there will be a special Morning Tea &
on the 23rd of November, we will be holding our Community Meal after a special 5pm Mass.
Community Mass & Meal – On the 23rd of November, we will have our last community meal
after 5.00pm Mass. Cost is $20 for a family or $9 for a single person. Please bring either a salad
or cake to share. BYO alcohol, glasses & soft drinks. Please RSVP to the parish office.
NOVEMBER - Month of Remembrance
During the month of November, books with the names of our deceased family and friends are
placed on the altars at St. Gerard’s and St. Anne’s and all are remembered in our prayers.

Our new rosters are due soon! Please complete the forms in the Church Foyer and return to the
Parish Office. We would love to see new faces participating!
Welcoming : we could do with a few more people on the welcoming roster. This is a very wonderful and important ministry where we welcome people on Jesus’ behalf to our celebration so
they know we are glad to see them- He is glad to see them- and they will feel comfortable in our
midst. This is particularly important for any visitors or occasional church goers but even for the
regulars. We love a friendly smile to cheer us as we enter God’s holy ground. No shop assistant
worth their wages would fail to greet a person who comes in to their shop-“ I’m glad you’re here
and I am willing to help if you need me!”
Morning Tea roster : is highly recommended for people who would like to start to get to
know others better. As we serve others our sense of belonging grows. A visitor from another
parish was amazed that we have a lovely morning tea every week. We are indeed lucky! As we
stop for a quick cuppa after mass we strengthen our connections with each other or occasionally
we may reach out and meet new people. Ladies or men are welcome to join this lovely ministry.
We bring along something to go with the cuppa- doesn’t have to be home baked- whatever the
Spirit moves or time allows.

Unfortunately we had to cancel the trip to the Caribbean gardens last Wednesday due to the lack of
numbers. Apologies to those who were looking forward to going. We just can’t afford to pay for the bus if it
is only half full!
Our next Mass & Meeting will be on Friday 28 November, starting at 9:15 in the Chapel. This will be a
Mass of Anointing. Morning Tea will follow in the Mary Bresnan Room.
We are taking bookings for the Christmas lunch, which is on Friday 5 December at the Dorset Gardens
Hotel. The entertainment will be provided by David Gould, theatre personality. Ring Shirley for bookings.
MEDITATION GROUP Meets during school terms on Tuesday mornings from 9.15am till 10.00 am in the Holy
Spirit Chapel. Through the ancient art or practice of meditation, it enables us to get in touch with our real true inner
self, nature and God. All are most welcome.

cards, Majellan $4.00 for 10 cards, and Moira Kelly Children First Foundation cards $1 each.

Marian Movement of Prayer for Priests
More than ever today priests everywhere need our prayers to uphold the dignity and power of priesthood .
Priests are our shepherds, and the Catholic Church teaches us that they are “Living Instruments of Christ the Eternal Priest.”
Pope John Paul II described the priesthood as “a gift and mystery”. A cenacle of prayer for priests is held in the
Holy Spirit Chapel at 10:00am each Saturday morning with the exception of the 1st Saturday of the month.

HOLY SPIRIT SCHOOL IS COLLECTING UNWANTED OLD MOBILE PHONES
10-16th November is National Recycling Week and Melbourne Zoo is asking if we can recycle our
old mobile phones for the 'They're Calling on You' Campaign. It is to support the wild gorillas.

NOVEMBER REMEMBRANCES

Professor Patrick McGorry AO will be giving the Rerum Novarum Oration for 2014. He is an Irish-born Australian psychiatrist known for his development of early intervention services for youth. He is Professor of Youth Mental Health at the University of Melbourne, and was named 2010 Australian of the Year. His respondent will be Professor John Gleeson, a clinical
psychologist and Head of the School of Psychology at the Australian Catholic University. His research interests include psychological treatment of youth with psychosis.

Associate Professor Nasir Butrous is a Chaldean Catholic and a native of the city of Mosul (Biblical Nineveh) in Iraq. He is
the Associate Professor of Management at the Australian Catholic University-Faculty of Law and Business in Melbourne.
Nasir was previously a member of the Commission for Ecumenical and Interfaith Relationships in the Archdiocese of Brisbane. He has regularly spoken on his perspective on Islam from his lived experience of Catholic–Muslim relations both in
Iraq and in Australia.
