PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of all, you create us good and call us to live in relationship
with you and one another. Instead we erect barriers and fall to
temptation. We follow lesser gods and allow ourselves to put our
personal agendas before yours. Turn our focus back to you.
Renew within us patience and trust. Help us treat one another
with the kind of care and compassion you show us, and walk in
the way you would have us go.

We believe in one holy, universal Christian church, the

A memorial service will be held for Ed Taylor in the Nave today at 3:00 p.m.

First Couples meets at 9:30 a.m. in Monteith Hall to explore Lisa
Rankin’s “Practice of Meditation. Body, Mind, Spirit,” with a DVD
presentation and discussion.
Exploring the Faith meets in Monteith Hall at 11:00 a.m. to continue
the series “Presbyterians Today.” In this morning’s session, “Innovation:
A Mark of Presbyterians,” Revs. Rodawla and Sanderford explore how
Presbyterians are constantly creating new ideas and ministries.
Common Ground begins a new series, “Sport as a Road to God: Seeing
Beyond the Game,” today at 11:00 a.m., in the Lewis Room. Can baseball,
football, or soccer be a road to God? Is sport the game of life? Do
children at play experience something spiritual? These and other
questions form the basis of presentations and discussions with coaches,
athletes, parents, fans, educators, and special guests about the place
of sports in our culture. Sessions will appeal to young athletes, coaches,
parents, fans and educators. Presenters today are Chuck Monsma and
Keith Molin.
T2A2 Sundays@11:00 meets in the Youth Room on the 100 Level at
11:00 a.m. T2A2s, young adults and graduate students gathered in the
wideness of God’s love, will encounter scripture in new ways with short
video clips, journals, and discussion. The class will use Animate. Presenters
are Rev Lindsay Conrad and T2A2 members.

High Schoolers take note! Rev. Dr. Monnett is leading a mission trip to
Jalapa, Guatemala, June 14–23, 2015, for all present high schoolers members, friends, and grandchildren. Work will include construction
projects and Vacation Bible School. Email RJ for more information.
Join in the fun this Wednesday evening at our final Wednesday
2:42 of the fall semester.
Children’s Ministry needs half-pint or smaller canning jars or baby
food jars for an Advent Happening project. Please bring them to Debbie
MacVey.
Our host week at the Alpha House family shelter is November
17–23. Volunteers are needed to cook, provide childcare, purchase pantry
supplies or stay overnight to back up the all-night personnel. Sign up on
the church website or in the Welcome Center.
Fair Trade Coffee is coming to First Pres. Next Sunday, November 16,
we will begin serving Fair Trade Coffee at all church events, including
Coffee Hour. Fair Trade Coffee will also be available for purchase in the
Church Office.
Help others keep warm this winter. Rev. Conrad is collecting hoodies,
sweatshirts, hand warmers, and $5 gift cards to local coffee shops for our
neighbors battling cold days outside this winter. Donations can be dropped
off at her office by the French Room/Library.
Attend the Stephen Ministers continuing education presentation
tomorrow, November 10, 7:00–8:00 p.m., in Monteith Hall. Lynn Sipher,
MSW, will present “Falling Awake: Mindfulness for Depression and
Anxiety.” Mindfulness-based practices are proving to be an effective
approach for addressing depression and anxiety. Come learn more.
Hilltoppers welcomes all members to hear Dr. Kevin Portteus,
Associate Professor of Politics at Hillsdale College, this Thursday, November
13, at noon, in the Social Hall. A Presbyterian, Kevin is an expert on
Abraham Lincoln and will be speaking about the Christian beliefs
expressed in Lincoln’s Second Inaugural Address. Lunch is $5, and precedes
his talk. Please make your reservations in the Church Office, or by emailing
Rev. Rogers.
Volunteers are needed for our next Cass Community Social
Services mission project. We will participate in an interactive activity
with the Cass mothers and children who are living either in Mom’s Place or
in the shelter. We will leave Ann Arbor no later than 5:00 p.m., Wednesday,
December 3, have our usual Slow’s BBQ sandwich, and attend the worship
service in the Warehouse. Lindsay is preaching! We’ll then go to the Scott
building for our time with the children and their mothers. We will be on
our way back to Ann Arbor by 8:30. Please sign up online or contact Sue

The Stephen Ministry Leader Team is now accepting applications
for those who may feel a call to serve as a Stephen Minister. The training
begins in January on Monday evenings. Applications are available in the
Church Office and are due to Rev. Rogers by November 17. Those gifted
with skills of listening and caring are encouraged to apply, as these lay
ministers work one-on-one with members of our congregation and
community who are going through a difficult time.
Campus Work Week is November 16–22. Would you like to have some
work completed around your house or yard, get to know some college
students, and support their participation in spring break mission trips? If so,
we have the opportunity for you! Hire two or more college students to do
a project the week of November 16. We request a $100 donation for two
students who will do two hours of work. You can even hire students to
participate in the Leaf Raking Day on November 22. Email Rev. Roederer if
you would like to participate.

Shop at the Christmas Bazaar Saturday, November 22, 10:00 a.m.–3:00

shopping in our Social Hall! First Pres mission teams are offering items from
their mission areas to raise funds for upcoming activities. In addition, Fair
Trade coffee, tea, and chocolate, our own First Pres coffee mugs, and a
special edition First Presbyterian Church scarf featuring our stained glass
windows will be available for purchase. 10,000 Villages of Ann Arbor
will be there selling a variety of Fair Trade items from their Main Street
store. First Pres Youth will be on hand selling freshly baked goodies. Get
