NEWSLETTER 34/2014
Spring Fair
Despite the inclement weather a wonderful atmosphere was
present at the recent Spring Fair. I would like to thank the
organisers for all of their hard work and anyone who contributed
to the Spring Fair.
Naplan Results
I have now had the opportunity to look more closely at our 2014
Naplan results using authentic data. The children have made
significant growth from Years 3 to 5 in Spelling, Grammar and
Punctuation, Reading and Writing. This is a great result. Well
done boys and girls and teachers, K to 6.
School Council
A number of School Council Members will be required to stand
down as they are approaching the end of their term. You may be
tapped on the should by a current member and asked if you
would consider standing for membership. If so, please give the
request serious consideration. Being a School Council member is
not a time consuming and difficult task. From what I am told, it is
an enjoyable experience.

School Readers & Books
We all love it when you take books and readers home for pleasure or practice. However
now is the time to riffle through your bookshelves and under the bed to find any books
stamped with St Joseph’s School. You never know what you will find!!
Thank you
Mrs Smith
Calendars - Spring Fair
A big thank you to all those people who ordered a calendar, diary or cards at the Spring
Fair. Once again the children showed us what creative kids we have at our school as their
artwork looked fantastic. If you missed out on placing on order, it's not too late. I will be
sending the parcel away this Friday so please ring me if you still wish to place an order.
Remember that the personal photo's are always on option. Give me a call and we can
organise that too.
My mobile number is 0409 695999.

Drinks & Popcorn: a note from Leanne Trengrove “On behalf of James and myself, I would like to say
how much we have enjoyed running the drinks and popcorn stall over the past 8 years. We would like to
thank our helpers, especially Elaine Odgers and the Narrandera District Hospital for donating the ice.
Many thanks to Toni and Dean Kerr for continuing to run the stall and we wish them well for future
years.” And the rest of us would like to sincerely thank Leanne and James for being the least fuss stall
captains ever. Nothing was ever a problem, it always just ran like clockwork.
Mitchell’s Super Surprise: thank you so much to the entire Mitchell family for their creative and
interesting activities – and GOOP – over the past six children! They haven’t been able to have a stall every
year, but it has been a very popular event when they have.
Cake Stall: Cleo Fraser would like to especially thank everyone who was able to donate cakes, slices and
other produce. We are very lucky to have such generous people. Thank you to the cake stall helpers –
Vanessa Hoffman, Debbie Paterson, Linda Ball and Aki Brew for her donation of sushi. A big thanks to
Zarah Curtis for her wonderful creations for the cake raffles.
Major Raffle: Special thanks to Annette Perry, Sue Harrison and Linda Maskus who volunteered their
time to sell raffle tickets.
Rotary BBQ: Ann Vearing would like to thank ex-Mum Donna McPherson for working alongside her all
day. Thanks also to all the Rotary volunteers who came and made our jobs so easy, plus Darren Gray and
Christy Morton for hours of preparation.
Morning Tea: Thanks from Ruth, Toni and Lynda to the ladies who gave up their time on the day;
Narrandera High School for the loan of their coffee machine which enabled us to sell ‘real coffees’; Trent’s
Café for coffee beans and the loan of coffee mugs; Manildra Flour Mill for scone mix; Coles for their
generous donation.

Book Stall, and thanks to Mrs Darrington for ongoing help with collection of goods, cakes, raffle tickets,
finding keys, copying, etc, etc.
Fusion: Thank you to Eiley Armida and the volunteers from Fusion who stayed around to outlast the
weather and who managed to run some great fun activities once the rain eased up.
Dragonfly Entertainment: Shame about the weather as it meant we didn’t get to enjoy enough
bouncing (particularly the grown-ups).
Site Set-Up / Shut-Down: Thank you to all those families who arrived from 8am to start setting up and
to those who stayed after the fair to pack it all up again. This was made harder because of the rain, but
everyone kept on going. There were many husbands of stall captains, but instead of naming some and
missing others … a BIG THANK YOU to one and all.
