Wedding Day
June 14, 1952
Kay and Roger
married for 61 years
Kay Tornow was born on March 28, 1932 in
Appleton, Wisconsin, where she grew up.
While in junior high school, she was a
cheerleader and was a member of the
Junior Golf Club at Butts des Morts
Country Club. She also took piano for
years. When she entered high school, she
took modern dance, and was the
Modern Dance Club president from
1949-1950. When Kay went to college at
Lawrence College, later changing to
Lawrence University. She was a member
of the Delta Gamma Sorority and was Red
Cross certified and taught swimming
lessons. Kay married Roger Tornow on
June 14, 1952. They had three sons; Scot,
Blaine and Todd. They eventually moved
to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Kay and Roger
were both members of the Milwaukee
Choristers. This chorus, one of
Milwaukee’s most versatile and popular
vocal groups for 80 years, is made up of
the best. For 27 years, they always made
the performance choir, even though Kay
says “it was very nerve wracking,
auditioning." During the 70’s and 80’s,
Kay was president twice of a Stock Club,
learning through investing, which later
became part of the NAIC. She was also a
Unit Commissioner for the Boy Scouts of
America and received the District Award
of Merit. After Roger retired they moved
and built a home in Gulf Breeze, Florida.
Later, Kay became a water aerobics
instructor and taught for several years.
Kay and Roger did a lot of traveling. She
will tell you, “We were never home.” One
of Kay’s favorite memories was traveling
to Italy and seeing the ruins in Rome.
