69th Geneva International Music Competition – Piano & Flute (16 Nov – 5 Dec.)
RESULTS OF THE FIRST ROUND – FLUTE
Geneva, Wednesday 19 November – The Jury has just announced the results of the first round of the
flute competition: 18 flutists aged 17 to 28 years old from 9 countries have been selected to continue
to the next round which takes place from November 22nd – 23rd in Geneva, Switzerland. The piano

Results of the first round
For this first round (Recital I), the candidates had to perform three pieces for flute solo: Sigfrid KargElert’s Sonata Appassionata, C.P.E Bach’s Sonate for flute solo, as well as a contemporary piece at

choice from a list of works from the 20 Century (Georges Benjamin, Luciano Berio, Elliot Carter, Heinz
Holliger, Philippe Hurel, Betsy Jolas, Tristan Murail, Toru Takemitsu).
From the 43 candidates who participated in the first round, 18 young flutists aged 17 to 28 years
old from 9 different countries were selected for the next stage of the competition:

BOULEGUE (24 years, France), M. Ting-Wei CHEN (24 years, Taiwan), Mrs Hyunseo CHEON (17
years, South Korea), Mrs Adriana FERREIRA (24 years, Portugal), Mrs Julia HABENSCHUSS (24
years, Austria), M. Sébastian JACOT (27 years, Switzerland), M. Yubeen KIM (17 years, South Korea),
M. Yuki KOYAMA (28 years, Japan), Mrs Helena MACHEREL (19 years, Switzerland), M. Alexander
MARINESKU (26 years, Russia), Mrs Sarah OUAKRAT (27 years, France), Mrs Yaeram PARK (18
years, South Korea), Mrs Ji Weon RYU (22 years, South Korea), Mrs Sojeong SON (25 years, South
Korea), M. Pantxoa URTIZBEREA (22 years, France) and M. Mark XIAO (27 years, Australia).

Piano & Flute 2014
This year’s Geneva International Music Competition takes place from 16 November to 5 December. All
competition rounds are open to the public and take place at the Music Conservatory, the Studio E.
Ansermet and the Victoria Hall. The flute Final will take place on Monday December 1st with the
Geneva Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Nicholas Chalvin and the piano Final on Tuesday

December 2 with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, conducted by Alexander Shelley. Both of
these events will be broadcast live on RTS.ch, Espace 2 and ARTE Concert, then on MEZZO TV.
