Qalipu Mi’kmaq First Nation Band Employment Opportunity Job Title: Aboriginal Wellness Researcher (16 Week Term) Location: To be determined Position Description: The Aboriginal Wellness Researcher will work with Service Qalipu to identify the mental health and social needs of Band members by conducting a supplemental needs assessment and consulting with regional stakeholders in both Western and Central Newfoundland. The consulting will particularly focus on Aboriginal women and children, Aboriginal people with disabilities, and gender base violence victims. When possible the Aboriginal Wellness Researcher will conduct interviews, surveys and symposiums to supplement the data. The successful candidate will be required to do some travel. Responsibilities: The Aboriginal Wellness Researcher will be responsible for conducting interviews, surveys and symposium to supplement the data for regional stakeholders; in particular Aboriginal women and children, Aboriginal people with disabilities, and gender base violence victims. The Aboriginal Wellness Researcher will record and document members of the Qalipu Mi’kmaq First Nation Band who are conducting healing ceremonies, cultural teaching, mentoring, and other culturally appropriate activities; The Aboriginal Wellness Researcher’s secondary objective will be to document: Elder abuse, mental health and addictions, Aboriginal women and children housing issues and existing support systems. The Aboriginal Wellness Researcher will be responsible for identification of gaps and making recommendations in intermediate areas of program delivery, which could be developed as a service. Qualifications: Preferred candidates will have:  A degree in any of the following: Social Sciences, Psychology or Social Work, consideration will be given to those applicants who possess equivalent training and experience.  Extensive experience working with victims of gender base violence, mental health and addictions issues.  Experience in researching and interviewing techniques.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  Project Management Experience.  Superior MS Office Suite skills  Ability to work independently or with a team to complete tasks and reach goals on time.  Nonviolent Crisis Intervention CPI-Blue Card would serve as an asset.  Applied Behavioral Intervention Certificate would serve as an asset.  Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training Certificate would serve as an asset.  Knowledge of the Homelessness Partnering Strategy and Community Plans would serve as an asset. Hours: 35 per week Salary: $19.50 per hour Duration: 16 weeks Working Conditions: This position is office based. The duties are predominantly met during regular business hours.
