15th – 23rd AUGUST 2015 GREAT MUSIC IN SMALL SPACES OSLO CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL Greetings from Arve Tellefsen www.oslokammermusikkfestival.no Foto: Peter Searle A warm welcome to all our 27 concerts at the Oslo Chamber Music Festival! We present music ranging from the Middle Ages to not yet written, performed by artists from the top of our list. We want our concerts to create reflection, deep insights and enthusiasm. I have noticed that some people think Oslo audiences are overdoing things when they express their enthusiasm with “too many” standing ovations. I can’t see anything negative about showing enthuasiasm, and I think we should be allowed to express it whatever other people think. I have experienced audiences clapping between movements in Carnegie Hall, Musikverein and Berlin Philharmonie, and I am told that in Beethoven’a time the audience not only applauded between movements if they were enthuasiastic, but also demanded encores. Of course, there are musical moments where silence feels more natural than thunderous applause and cheers. But when it feels right, I think we should let ourselves be carried away. We hope for both silence, reflection, absorption and enthusiasm in this year’s Oslo Chamber Music Festival. A warm welcome to you all!
