Saint Bartholomew’s Catholic Church Mission Statement
The community of Saint Bartholomew, graced in spirit by our baptism, invites all to worship and glorify God by attendance at
Mass and sharing in the Holy Eucharist. We are committed to teach the Good News of Salvation and to serve all. Under the
guidance of the Holy Spirit may we so advance in holiness that all God’s children will want to come and see for themselves the
wonders of His merciful love.

“Are we moved by the suffering of those without
shelter? Do we seek to alleviate the fear, confusion and
panic that women facing unexpected pregnancies may be
experiencing? Do our hearts ache for elderly patients in
nursing homes who feel abandoned and unwanted,
having no one to visit them?
Our mission is to show each person the love of Christ.
As uniquely created individuals, we each have unique
gifts which we are called to use to share Christ’s love.”

FEAST OF THE HOLY FAMILY
Sirach 3:2-6, 12-14
Colossians 3:12-21
Luke 2:22-40
The Gospel reading begins with the simple scene of a devout Jewish family obeying the
Law. The holy man Simeon then meets them and says that this child will fulfill the hopes
of Israel. Not only that, he will be a “revealing light to the Gentiles.” One of Luke’s
dominant themes is salvation for everyone, Gentiles as well as Jews. This simple and
strong description of the Holy Family concludes with their return home to ordinary daily
life in a small village.

RECIPE FOR A HAPPY NEW YEAR
Author Unknown
Take twelve whole months.
Clean them thoroughly of all bitterness,
hate, and jealousy.
Make them just as fresh and clean
as possible.
Now cut each month into twenty-eight,
thirty, or thirty-one different parts,
but don’t make up the whole batch at once.
Prepare it one day at a time out of these
ingredients:
Mix well into each day one part of faith,
one part of patience, one part of courage,
and one part of work.
Add to each day one part of hope,
Faithfulness, generosity, and kindness.
Blend with one part prayer, one part
Meditation, and one good deed.
Season the whole with a dash of good
spirits, a sprinkle of fun, a pinch of play,
and a cup of good humor.
Pour all of this into a vessel of love.
Cook thoroughly over radiant joy,
garnish with a smile,
And serve with quietness, unselfishness,
and cheerfulness.
You’re bound to have a happy new year!
