Healthy Living Fitness Challenge
Indoor Duathlon
January 31, 2015
Start training for those outdoor activities and race events now, indoors, while there is still a chill in the air. Participating in our Indoor Duathlon will challenge you and give you a great cross training cardio workout.
Here’s how it works:
10 minutes: Run or Walk on a treadmill
Heats will start every 25 minutes
20 minutes: Ride an Indoor Cycling Bike
1st Heat begins at 8:00 am
10 minutes: Run or Walk on a treadmill
There will be a 3 minute transition between each switch
Scoring the event:
Mileage will be recorded. The most miles in each male / female age group wins. There will be a 1st Place Winner in
each age group. The overall male and female winner is determined by the one who achieves the most miles in the
time allowed. Age division winners will receive a water bottle. The overall male and female winners will receive a
plaque.
Age Groups: 12-16, 17-21, 22-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50+
Cost: $15 Entry without a T-shirt.

Indoor Triathlon
February 28, 2015
While outdoor triathlons are based on time, an indoor triathlon is based on distance. During our indoor triathlon,
volunteers will log athletes’ distances in each event. At completion of the swim, bike, and run, all athletes’ distances
will be tallied for grand totals. Winners will be announced in each male/female age group, along with overall male
and female winners. This event will help you get ready for our 4th Annual YMCA Outdoor Triathlon scheduled for this
September 12th at Lake Santee.

Compete individually, or in teams of 2 to 4, performing Crossfit type of
exercises. Event exercise will be either a number of rounds for time,
or maximum number of rounds within a designated time limit.
Individual winners, as well as winning teams, will receive medals.

Membership Information
All annual memberships are valid one full year from the date of purchase, are non-refundable and are not transferable. The
annual rate is payable by cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, or American Express. A membership paid by bank draft is considered
continuous. No renewal notices will be sent, and drafts will continue until the member requests and signs a termination of
membership. Cancellation of memberships must occur in writing at least 7 days prior to draft date. No refunds will be made.
The member will be informed in writing 30 days prior to any changes in monthly draft rates, indicating the new monthly draft
amount. A one-time assessment fee, called the Joiner’s Fee, goes toward the Capital Improvement Fund and must be paid
upon joining the YMCA. A Y Member who terminates their membership will have a 1 year grace period during which they can
rejoin without paying the Joiner’s Fee. After 1 year, the former member has 4 years to rejoin and pay only 1/2 of the Joiner’s
Fee. If the membership lapses for more than five years, the full Joiner’s Fee will be assessed when it is renewed.
Scholarships
The YMCA has a scholarship program (financial
assistance) to assist members of our community to take advantage of all the YMCA has to offer. The program is based on the income level of the applicant and the availability of funds raised through our Annual ‘Invest in Youth’ Campaign. For information on our scholarship program or on how

Class Policy
Special Events
The YMCA reserves the right to cancel published classes for lack of enrollment. In these cases, participants registered
get a full refund. Program Staff will contact the participant to notify them of the cancellation and ask which option
(credit or refund) they would like. Refunds take up to two weeks to process.
In the event the YMCA cancels a class due to a special event or inclement weather, either a credit or refund will be
available or a make-up will be scheduled. The YMCA will make every effort to make-up cancelled classes in these
instances. Only in the event that a make-up cannot be scheduled will a credit or refund be available (extenuating
circumstances will be taken into consideration on a case-by-case basis).
Participants that miss scheduled classes due to vacation, illness or conflicting obligations will not be eligible for
refunds/credits. Cases of extreme illness or injury will be decided on a case-by-case basis.
Inclement weather policy: In the event of a Greensburg Community School System 2hr delay, we will not hold morning
youth classes. In the event of a Greensburg Community School System cancellation, we will not hold any youth classes.
Flick N Float POOL PARTY!!!

We are showing Mr. Peabody and Sherman on the big screen in the pool and
providing popcorn in the lobby. Feel free to bring you own float, purchase one
at the front desk, or use one of ours. PLOT: When Sherman takes his father's
time machine out for a spin to impress a girl, they rip a hole in the universe,
altering historical events, and Mr. Peabody must come to the rescue.

1. Parents are responsible for the actions of their children. Appropriate supervision is required.
2. Proper attire must be worn at all times in all YMCA program areas.
3. Food and drink (except water) are not permitted in YMCA program areas at any time.
4. The Decatur County Family YMCA is a smoke-free campus
Age Requirements
General: Youth under the age of 10 must be accompanied at all times by a parent, guardian, or responsible adult 18 years of
age or older, unless involved in a YMCA class or supervised activity. Youth age 10-12 are permitted in designated areas of the
YMCA as long as a parent, guardian, or responsible adult remains on the YMCA premises.
24/7 Key Fob: 18 years of age and older, must be a member in good standing, signed contract required
Gyms: 10 years of age and older. For youth ages 10-12, a parent must be on the premises. Parent must accompany children
younger than 10 years old.
Y-Zone: 10 years of age and older. For youth ages 10-12, a parent must be on the premises. If the Y-Zone is staffed by the
YMCA, children 6 years and older are welcome with or without their parent.
Swimming Pool: 10 years of age and older. For youth ages 10-12, a parent must be on the premises. Parent must be in the
water with children under the age of 6.
Sauna: 18 years of age and older.
Whirlpool: 16 years of age and older.
Indoor Walking/Running Track: 8 years of age and older. Youth 8-12 years of age are permitted on the track when
accompanied by the parent. Children under 8 years of age are not permitted on the track at any time.
Wellness Center: 10 years of age and older. For their safety, youth 10-17 years old must receive prior orientation from staff
and youth 10-12 years old must be accompanied at all times with parent or guardian.
Free Weight Area: 15 years of age and older. Youth 15-17 years old must have an orientation and sign parent/teen waiver.
Racquetball Court: 13 years of age and older. Youth under the age of 13 are permitted on the racquetball court when
accompanied by a parent.
Batting Cages: Youth 15 and under must be accompanied by a responsible adult 18 years of age or older.

SKIN FOLD ANALYSIS: Skin fold test will determine body fat percentage. Choose from either a 4 or 7 site test. If you are

Preschool, Afterschool, Child Watch
Our half day preschool offers child-centered learning in a Christian atmosphere. It includes creative learning, music &
movement, pre-writing & writing, arts and crafts, centers, devotions, technology, and much more. All of our staff are
CPR, AED, & First Aid certified and have attended a Child Abuse Prevention training. They have years of experience
working with children and know how to teach children through play. The Y preschool sets individual goals and objectives
for each child, in a fun and safe environment. YMCA preschool offers swim time for all age groups. We maintain a 1:7
(or better) staff-to-child ratio. For the 2015-2016 school year, registration begins January 5 for YMCA members and
February 2 for Program members.
We are also offering two new classes this year; a 5-day and a 4-day class.
*Children must be age 5 on or before Aug. 1 to enter Kindergarten. Please keep
this in mind when registering your child in preschool.

Afterschool
After School is a safe place for children ages 5-12 years old to go after school while parents are still at work. Children are transported
to the YMCA from Greensburg, Good Shepherd, St. Mary’s, and North Decatur. The YMCA offers a help with homework time, games,
crafts and snacks. We follow the Greensburg School calendar and offer Day Camps when school is on two week breaks. Our After
school program accepts CCDF vouchers and provides a meal through the CCAFP. All children attending afterschool must have a
completed and signed immunization form on file at the YMCA before they can come to the program.

“YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE” Grades KK-1, 22-3, and 44-6. (Co(Co-Ed unless numbers allow to separate boys
and girls) YMCA basketball is a fun place to learn about the sport or to fine-tune your skills. Teams will
have 1 practice and 1 game per week. Please call the YMCA if a coach has not contacted you by January
19th. K-1st will play on 8ft goals (junior size balls), 2nd -3rd on 9ft goals (intermediate size balls), and
4th -6th will play on 10 ft goals (intermediate ball). Divisions may change depending on registration numbers.
Volunteer coaches are critical to the success of this program. We will provide you everything you need to
coach. Coaches meeting takes place right after evaluation day on January 17th.

WATERBUGS (Ages: 6 mo.mo.-2 years) Taught as a combined class with the parent accompanying the child in
the water. Parents become confident handling their babies in the water while teaching water movement
skills. Parents will learn how to teach their child basic swimming skills, how to float, and how to fall into and
exit a pool. **Disposable diapers are not permitted in pools. Swim diapers are required to be
worn by children not yet potty trained. They are available for purchase at the front desk.**

strokes legally and improve times on the team they participate in currently. Swimmers must be able to swim
50-100 yards continuously without stopping. (45 min 7:1 ratio)

Class Descriptions
Pilates with Props: A series of mat exercises using a variety of tools that produce
kinesthetic awareness and desirable improvements in alignment and movement quality of the
spine, while strengthening and toning the body, centering from the pelvic floor (core) muscles.
Need to improve abdominal and low back strength? Then this class is for you. Can register
for Monday class, Wednesday class , Friday class or all three. (save 10% if registering for 3)
Power Hour/Extreme Strength: Get a full hour of intense strength and toning using a
variety of equipment that will give your metabolism the boost you need.
Silver Sneakers: For any fitness level, designed to increase muscular strength, endurance,
and range of movement, to improve activities for daily living (ADL). Use resistance bands,
weights, and a chair. Meets the Surgeon General’s recommendation for “frequent exercise.”
Silver Sneakers Yoga Stretch: The class is primarily for active, older adults practicing gentle
stretching, yoga, and modified yoga. A chair is used for some poses, such as balance and seated
poses, while some work is done standing, and some on the floor. All poses and exercises can be
modified to each individual’s fitness needs.
Small Group PT (Personal Training): Need a trainer and a workout designed for your
needs? Your personal trainer will work with a group of between 4 to 8 people developing
workouts needed to burn the most calories possible during the workout, while toning,
tightening the core, and building overall muscular strength and endurance. Weather
permitting, workouts may be partly inside and partly outside on fitness trail. Trainer is
ACE Certified.
Step-N-Toning: Step up to fitness with this creative, challenging choreographed workout
that will improve cardiovascular fitness and muscle tone.
Tony’s Bootcamp: Class is a dynamic workout consisting of Army/Marine Corps fitness, sport
specific drills and circuit training to get you into tip top shape. Tony, a former 12 year
serviceman and EMT, will give you a great workout! All fitness levels are welcome.
Yoga: Yoga will help you discover how the mind and body unite in a harmony of movement
and coordination. Mental focus, while concentrating on breathing, will improve tension and
stress, and strengthen the lungs. Benefits: smooth and efficient muscles; flexibility; joint
function; weight loss; improved circulation; relief from insomnia, headaches, and backaches;
improved balance, posture, asthma, and concentration, and more. (fees are for one class
per week)
Zumba: The Zumba® program fuses easy-to-follow moves dancing to Latin and International
music such as the Merengue, Salsa, Cha Cha, Cumbia, Swing, Rock & Roll, Belly Dance, Flamenco,
Tango, Indian, and Calypso, with the goal of improving cardiovascular health, burning calories,

Ab Control: A 15-minute class that focuses on nothing but your abs. Work your upper and
lower abs, obliques, and back in just 15 minutes!
Cardio Blast: Get your heart pumping with this creative, challenging workout that will
improve cardiovascular fitness and muscle tone.
Cycle Strength: Build endurance and burn calories in this combined high intensity cardio and
strength workout. Climb hills, speeding down a flat stretch then on to rolling hills and jumps
working towards your target heart rate. First half is the ride, last half you will tone and
strengthen your body and core.
Cycle Yo : Cycling and yoga combine the strength and endurance of cycling with the
physiological benefits of Yoga. Stretching, balance, breathing and relaxation training will battle
the inflexibility and imbalances created with cycling. During this class you will spend time on
both the bike and the mat. This class is tailored to meet the needs of each individual. All levels
welcome.
Indoor Cycling: Want to burn calories fast? Want to build endurance? Instructors lead you
through exciting courses. Intensity is up to you as you work toward that target heart rate.
Join the ride and stay fit! (fees are for one class per week)
Jujitsu: Jujitsu is a form of martial arts that develops coordination, balance, strength, memory,

Mix Class: A high/low class that focuses on strength and toning by putting the core at the
center of each workout.
Mommy & Me Bootcamp: Mommy (or Dad) & Me Bootcamp is a 45 minute workout
performing a variety of cardio drills, strength training exercises, core work, and stretching to
increase overall fitness for that total body workout! Strollers may be used for some exercises
but are not required. Exercise modifications can be made for new moms who are six to 16
weeks postpartum and active moms who are ready for an additional challenge. To participate,
moms must be at least 6 weeks postpartum (8 weeks for a cesarean section) and have received
verbal clearance from their physician to resume physical exercise.
Pilate Ball: An innovative fusion of Pilates and Yoga using different size balls, and the Bosu
Balance Trainer, to enhance movement, to help improve posture, core strength, and add
flexibility. It’s a challenging, but fun workout!
Pilate Fusion: A series of mat exercises that infuse pilates and yoga together to strengthen
and tone all of the muscles within our body, while lengthening our spine and concentrating on
abdominal, pelvic floor, and low back conditioning. A variety of Pilate equipment will be used.
Pilates and yoga are great compliments to other forms of exercise and will dramatically
enhance sport performance. Can register for Tuesday class, Thursday class, or both.

Semi –Private/Family Swim Lessons: Classes are for 30 minutes and meet 6 times. This class is designed to give families

SCUBA
Ever see scuba divers on TV and wonder what it would be like to try it out? Interested in learning but
not sure if you are ready to start classes? “Try Scuba” allows participants the chance to see what
scuba is all about in the comfort of a heated pool. Each one-time class offered is approximately 2 hrs
NEW!
in length.
Requirements: 10 years of age. Reasonable physical condition, meaning participant can dive to the
bottom of the pool and swim approximately 50 – 100 yards without stopping. Participants will be required to
complete a short medical questionnaire prior to class.

Scuba Diver Certification Class:
Class:
Scuba Diver certification trains students to safely enter the underwater world. Students complete a combination of class
work, pool training, and open water demonstration of skills. Upon graduation from class, students earn an internationally
recognized certification card that is good for life. Certified divers are welcome to dive locally with other divers, continue
their diving education, or travel to exotic locations with a trained dive team.
Requirements: 12 years of age for junior certification (with instructor approval). 16 years of age for adult certification.
Participant must be in reasonable physical condition. Participants will be required to complete a short medical questionnaire
prior to class. Participants will complete class work via an internet-based program, 3 pool training sessions, and 2 days of
diving in a local scuba park, or on a trip with their instructor and other divers.
