MARRIAGE
Arrangements should be made with a priest as
soon as possible. One year prior to marriage
or as soon as Engagement is announced is

MINISTRY TO THE SICK
In the event of serious illness or when
someone is hospitalized, the parish office
should be notified. The Eucharist and the Sacrament of the
Sick will be celebrated with anyone requesting them.
Remember, the Hospital cannot notify us on their own.
YOUTH MINISTRY
The Youth Mass is at 9:30 AM on Sundays and “Get-A-Grip,”
grades 7-12, meets for Liturgy of the Word during the Mass
on the first Sunday of the month. Youth in grades 9-12 meet
at scheduled intervals.

CHOIR
STEWARDSHIP AND TITHING
We are fortunate enough to have a Parish Choir that has a full
multi-lingual repertoire, as well as a Junior Choir . The Choir
rehearses on Thursday at 7:30 PM, and the Junior Choir on
Wednesday at 7:40 PM., following Religious Education Class.
Instrumentalists are welcomed, either to play solo or with our
choir. A parish orchestra made up of children and adults
rehearses and performs several times during the year. For
more information, or to volunteer, please call John or Martha
Nowik after Mass or at the Parish Office.
Stewardship calls us to freely give of our time, talent, and
treasure for the good of our parish family and community.
God gives us everything! I give Him back my tithe. Tithing
is God’s plan to support His Church. Full tithing means 10%
of gross income to God – 5% for your parish church and 5 %
for other charities.

BAPTISM OF THE LORD
First Reading: Isaiah 42:1-4, 6-7
Isaiah tells of the Lord’s Servant, who will be
inconspicuous, but will not rest until justice is
established. The Lord then tells his servant that he was
formed to be “a light for the nations.”
Second Reading: Acts 10:34-38
Peter speaks to a group of pagans for the first time. He
explains to them that any person who follows God’s will
is acceptable to God, regardless of nationality.
Gospel: Mark 1:7-11
John the Baptist had claimed one would come far more
powerful than himself, one who would baptize with the
Holy Spirit rather than water. When Jesus came to John
and was baptized, the Spirit descended on him and a
voice said, “You are my beloved Son. On you my favor
rests.”

Katechizacja
Rodzice dzieci w wieku szkolnym zobowiązani są do posyłania ich na

Sakrament Chrztu Świętego
Udzielany jest we wszystkie niedziele roku. Rodzice wraz
z chrzestnymi powinni uczestniczyć w nauce przed chrztem dziecka,
na którą należy uprzednio się umówić.
Duszpasterstwo chorych
Prosimy o powiadamianie parafii o tych, którzy z powodu wieku czy
choroby - na stałe czy czasowo - skazani są na pobyt w domu, lub w
szpitalu i nie mogą uczestniczyć w liturgii Mszy Świętej w kościele.
Chcemy ich odwiedzać, zanosić komunię świętą, służyć spowiedzią,

Uroczystość Chrztu Pańskiego
Niedziela, 11 stycznia 2009
Jezus Chrystus został ustanowiony przez Boga "światłością dla
narodów" i przymierzem dla wszystkich ludzi, gdyż "Bóg nie
ma względu na osoby, ale w każdym narodzie miły Mu jest ten,
kto się Go boi i postępuje sprawiedliwie". Stwierdza to
autorytatywnie Piotr w domu Korneliusza. Jezusa z Nazaretu
Bóg namaścił Duchem Świętym i mocą.
My także, przez sakrament chrztu "zanurzający w Chrystusa
Jezusa", staliśmy się "nowym stworzeniem". Odtąd jesteśmy
wezwani, by stawać się solą ziemi i światłością dla świata.
Każdy z nas ma przejść przez ziemię, czyniąc dobrze. Na tej
drodze umacnia nas Eucharystia.
Uroczystością Chrztu Pańskiego kończą się obchody okresu
Bożego Narodzenia. Od jutra rozpocznie się okres zwykły w
ciągu roku liturgicznego i używany będzie zielony kolor szat
liturgicznych. Niektóre jednak zwyczaje Bożonarodzeniowe –
jak np. śpiewanie kolęd, choinka itp. - w polskiej tradycji
zachowywane są aż do Uroczystości Ofiarowania Pańskiego
obchodzonej 02 lutego.

Jasełka i Opłatek Parafialny
Dzisiaj, po mszy świętej o godz. 11:00, zapraszamy na

Uroczystość przedstawienia kandydatów odbędzie się w niedzielę,

Msza w obronie życia
W niedzielę, 18 stycznia, w południe, w Bazylice Katedralnej w Newark
zostanie odprawiona msza swięta w obronie życia z racji 42 rocznicy
legalizacji aborcji w USA. Uczestnictwo w tej mszy świętej będzie
okazją wsprcia ruchu „Pro-Live” dla tych, którzy nie będą mogi wziąźć

Archidiecezjalna Kampania Kapitałowa
W 2015 roku rozpocznie się trzyletnia kampania kapitałowa
organizowana przez Archidiecezję Newark, której celem jest
zwiększenie środków pieniężnych na pomoc parafiom borykającym się
z kłopotami finansowymi, różne akcje prowadzone przez diecezję oraz
zabezpieczenie przyszłości funkocjonowania Kościoła Diecezjalnego.
Nasza parafia będzie zaangażowana w pierwszy etap kampani. Nie
będzie więc w tym roku Dorocznego Apelu Arcybiskupa, a jeśliby ktoś
przez przypadek otrzymał wezwanie w tej sprawie niech na to nie
reaguje. Ksiądz Proboszcz organizuje zespół osób, które będą
informować nas o przebiegu kampani.
Zbiórka żywności
Nadal zbieramy żywność dla potrzebujących. Chodzi o żywność, którą
da się przechować; która nie ulegnie szybko zepsuciu się. Prosimy ją
składać w nawie bocznej kościoła. Dary te przekazywane są Armi
Zbawienia, z którą nasza parafia od lat współpracuje, aby docierać z
pomocą do potrzebujących na naszym terenie.
Jak się modlić?
Jezus nie podał jako odpowiedzi teorii. Dał praktyczną wskazówkę –
modlitwę „Ojcze nasz”. I to wszystko, to wystarczy?
Przecież to też tylko kilka słów. Owszem, jako pobożni chrześcijanie wiemy,
że to najdoskonalsza modlitwa, zawierająca w sobie to wszystko, o co tylko
powinniśmy się modlić i czego potrzebujemy, itd. Co jednak wtedy, gdy nic
nie czujemy podczas jej odmawiania, a umysł i spojrzenia odlatują tam, gdzie
jest wspominany w wypowiadanym tekście Ojciec? Poniżej mała „instrukcja
obsługi”, która może pomóc ożywić odmawianie tej modlitwy.
Słowa
„Ojcze nasz”. Niby normalne, wiadomo, że Ojciec jest pierwszą Osobą Trójcy
Świętej, że to do Niego zawsze się modlimy przez Jezusa w Duchu Świętym. I
to wszystko? Ależ nie! Spójrzmy na to, kim jest (ew. kim powinien być) ojciec
w naszych relacjach ziemskich, rodzinnych. To ktoś, z kim mamy więź
nierozłączną, czy tego chcemy czy nie. Żeby być dzieckiem, trzeba mieć ojca.
Ojciec ma różne funkcje (brzydko mówiąc) w życiu syna i w życiu córki. W
przypadku tego pierwszego przypomina mu o jego męstwie i sile. Słyszeliśmy
zapewne o obrzędach z rozmaitych kręgów kulturowych, podczas których
ojciec zabierał syna od matki, aby nauczyć go życia. To właśnie rola ojca
wobec chłopaka, syna – nauczyć go życia i pokazać, że ma w sobie siłę i moc.
Bóg jako Ojciec mówi do nas, budząc w nas siłę: „Mocarzu, przypasz swój
miecz do biodra” (Ps 45, 4; wszelkie cytaty z Pisma wg Edycji św. Pawła),
jesteś mocny moją mocą. W życiu córki zaś ojciec jawi się jako pierwszy
mężczyzna, jako ten, który, pierwszy na świecie, zachwyca się jej pięknem.
Nie bez powodu ukuło się sformułowanie: „córeczka tatusia”. Prawdziwy
ojciec potrafi dostrzec piękno swojej córki. Podobnie jest z Bogiem.
„Posłuchaj, córko, spójrz i nakłoń ucha. Król pragnie twej piękności” (Ps 45,
11a. 12a). Bóg jest właśnie takim ojcem w pełni, niezależnie od naszych
ziemskich doświadczeń i historii życia, która czasami utrudnia dojście do tej
prawdy.
A dlaczego „nasz”? Modlitwa nie jest od tego, aby atakować nią innych.
Modląc się do naszego, a nie – mojego, Ojca, nie mam prawa i żadnych
podstaw do tego, aby modlitwy używać przeciwko komukolwiek. Wszelkiej
maści wypowiedzi w stylu: „niech Cię Bóg pokarze” itp. nie mają racji bytu u
chrześcijanina. cdn

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION FOR PRE-K & K
The classes for Pre-K and Kindergarten will resume for their
second semester session in February.
…Classes…Religious Education Classes resume on
Wednesday, January 14th at 6:30PM.
…ACRE Review…Students in levels 5 – 8 have received a
study guide to practice possible ACRE Test questions.
Parents are encouraged to practice these questions with
their children and we will have a “Jeopardy” style game to
review information that they should know. Competition will
be for levels 7 & 8 on January 21st. On those days the
students competing may be picked up in the gym. The Test
date is Wednesday, January 28th, 2015.
…Sacramental Enrollment…On this Sunday, January 11th
those who will be receiving Reconciliation and Eucharist will
be “Enrolled” in the Preparation Program at both the 9:30
and 11AM Masses.
EMMAUS BOOK CLUB
Looking ahead, the next meeting of the Emmaus Book Club
will be on Monday, January 26th at 7:00PM in the Rectory.
The first book for discussion will be The Light Between
Oceans by M.L. Stedman in which a young couple are
faced with a moral dilemma and gradually realize the
devastating impact their choices have on the lives of others.
The second book is Recipe for Joy, a Stepmom’s Story of
Finding Faith, Following Love, and Feeding Family by
Robin Davies. There are several copies of this book
available for borrowing from the Parish Office. Read one or
both of our selections and join us for an informal, friendly
discussion. All are welcome.
FIRST EUCHARIST AND RECONCILIATION
PARENT MEETING
On Wednesday, January 14th there will be a meeting of all
parents of the children who will be receiving these two
sacraments; the meeting will be at 6:30PM in the Parish
Center. The information regarding the classes will be given
out at that time so it is critical for the parents to attend,
either one or both.

SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available on a regular
basis on Saturdays at 5PM and on Sunday mornings after
the 8AM, 9:30AM, and 11AM Masses. The Sacrament is
also available after weekday Masses by simply asking.

Our Parish Choir regularly rehearses on Thursdays at

PRO-LIFE MASS AT CATHEDRAL
The Archdiocesan Respect Life Office and the Pro-Life
Commission will host a Pro-Life Mass at noon on Sunday,
January 18, 2015 at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred
Heart. January 22nd marks the 42nd anniversary of the
legalization of abortion in this country. By attending this
special Mass, those who wish to stand up for life but cannot
attend the March for Life in Washington, DC or the rally in
Trenton can still show their support and defend those who
cannot defend themselves.

MARIAN ICON COMING IN APRIL
Looking ahead, the Knights of Columbus have once again
arranged for the Icon of the Blessed Mother to be here on
the weekend of April 17th and 18th. The Icon will be on
display for all the Masses on that weekend.

ANNUAL FOOD DRIVE CONTINUES
Again, our Annual Food Drive to assist those in need has
begun and you are invited to bring non-perishable foods
that are still in date for use to the open are of the Church.
The food will be distributed through the Salvation Army here
in Plainfield. The Salvation Army seems to us to be the
most in touch with the needs of the people in our area and
so we have joined with them to have our assistance stay in
our local area.

…..Next Scheduled Meeting..Thursday, March 19th in the
Parish Center. Our group will take a break during the cold
and sometimes dangerous months of January and

CAREGIVER SUPPORT GROUP
The support group for those caring for elderly or chronically
ill loved ones will meet on Monday, February 2nd at St.
Helen’s Church in Westfield. They meet on the first nonholiday Monday of each month at 7:30PM. Fore more

KOLENDA
Kolenda is a Polish tradition, as well as a tradition in many
cultures under a different name, that offers a home
blessing. Anyone who would like to have their home
blessed is welcome to fill out the forms in the lobby of the
church or be in touch with Fr. Chris.

The 7th grade and up Get-A-Grip group will have their
meeting on Sunday, January 11th at the 9:30 Mass. All our
students are invited to experience the Word of God.

We are put on this earth to love God, love our neighbor and
make disciples. How many times does our own pride and
ego get in the way of fulfilling God’s plan for us? Humbling
ourselves before God and putting Him first in all things
should be our top priority.
ST. ANNE SOCIETY PARISH SERVICE PROJECT
Beginning January 10 – 25 we will be collecting baby
diapers, wipes, onsies, and all sizes of baby sox for needy
Plainfield moms. On Sunday, January 25th following 9:30
Mass the St. Anne Society will host a “Baby Shower” in the
Parish Center when all the items collected will be wrapped
for distribution. We invite all women to help with the service
project to support family life and needs, the mission of the
St. Anne Society. Beginning January 10, please bring your
articles to the Parish Office where we will receive the items
until January 25th.

ARCHDIOCESAN CAPITAL CAMPAIGN TO BE HELD
The Archdiocese will be having a much needed Capital
Campaign beginning this year of 2015. We will be in the
first group of parishes to participate in this Campaign and
so we will not be part of the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal. If,
perchance, by accident, you receive any mail about the
Archbishop’s Annual Appeal, please disregard it and do not
pledge. The purpose of the Capital Campaign is to make
available more financial aid to parishes for things that they
would not have been able to accomplish and to enhance
the Endowments that already exist. Actually, it is needed
and a good idea so that we can ensure that we are a
healthy Diocese serving our people.
I will be forming a team for this special appeal and more
information will be shard as we move forward. We live in
exciting times and we must prepare for the future of our
Church.
HOW TO REPORT ABUSE
The Archdiocese takes very seriously any and all
allegations of sexual misconduct by members of the clergy,
Religious and lay staff of the Archdiocese. We encourage
anyone with knowledge of an act of sexual misconduct to
inform us so that we may take appropriate action to protect
others and provide support to victims of sexual abuse. Call
the Archdiocesan Office of Child and Youth Protection at

The day finally arrived when Jesus put away his
carpenter’s apron and tools for the last time. He left
Nazareth, traveling to the south-east, and was
baptized by John in the Jordan River. The baptism
of Jesus has always been something of a mystery.
Why did he do it? What did it mean? In a significant
sense, it was an inauguration, the official beginning
of his ministry. And it certainly marked a transition
point in his life. He was saying goodbye to the past
so that he could fully embrace the future.
John the Baptist baptized in the Jordan
River. Mark referred to it as a “baptism of
repentance for the forgiveness of sins.” The
repentance aspect of John’s baptism did not apply
to Jesus. It applied in another sense, however.
Jesus was giving up one kind of life and beginning
another. Nazareth had been his home for thirty
years. He would never live there again. He had
earned his living as a carpenter, doubtless, a very
good one. This part of his career was over. For the
rest of his days, he would be an itinerant teacher
and preacher and healer. It must have been difficult
for Jesus to leave Nazareth. Some people leave
home with a sense of relief. They are often running
away from mistakes, or failures, or relationships that
have gone bad. Jesus had no such baggage to
leave behind. He was not running from anyone or
anything. He could have spent the rest of his life
right there in Nazareth. Leaving home was not easy,
but it had to be done. In order to fulfill the purpose
of his life, he had to say “goodbye” to the past.
Each of us must do something of the same
thing. For most of us, it will not entail a change of
residence or vocation. It is more likely to call for a
change of attitude, or change of priorities, or a
change of direction. This will not make it any easier.
It is much more difficult to change the way we live
than it is to change where we live. The difficulty is in
giving up old thought patterns, and old ways of
acting and reacting. But we must be willing to let go
of the past in order to grow and develop. This is a
basic law of life. A child must give up crawling as
the primary means of mobility, or never learn to
walk. We must all leave our homes of origin if we
are to ever build a home of our own.
If Jesus had stayed in Nazareth and continued
to be a carpenter, how different his life would have
been. He had been a carpenter most of his life.
Outside of Nazareth, no one had ever heard of him.
From his birth to the day of his baptism only one event
is recorded. It was when he visited the temple when he
was twelve. After that, nothing. Those are known as
the “silent years.” But there was a role for him that
required greater risks in a larger arena. He had to
travel a different road; and so do we.
