Madeline Maria Foster
O Jesus, Divine Master, I thank and bless Your most merciful
Heart for having given us Mary most holy as our Mother, Teacher
and Queen. From the cross You placed us all in her hands.
You gave her a great heart, much wisdom and immense power.
May all mankind know her, pray to her! May all permit themselves
to be led by her to You, the Savior of mankind! I placed myself in
her hands, as You placed Yourself. With this Mother I want to live
now, in the hour of my death, and for all eternity. Amen.
As you read this column I am enjoying the weekend in
Wisconsin with my family. I typically get my Christmas break at
the end of the season. This Sunday also just happens to be the
day of the first playoff game for the Green Bay Packers. My
last column was written before Christmas, so I did not have the
most recent info on my team. Of course two Sundays ago they
defeated the Detroit Lions taking their division and earning a
bye week. This weekend the Packers face the Dallas Cowboys
who eliminated the Lions last week. The Cowboys travel to
Green Bay where the Packers are undefeated this season. Of
course the Cowboys have not lost any away games this year
and the two teams’ quarterbacks are the top two rated in the
NFL this year, so it will be an interesting and hopefully rather
exciting matchup. Obviously I am hoping the Packers come out
on top and progress to the conference playoff next Sunday.
More important than progress in any NFL playoff game
is the progress we make spiritually. The Church seasons help
foster that progress. As I mentioned here last week, we close
out the Christmas season liturgically and officially this weekend
with this feast of the Baptism of Our Lord. No doubt Jesus as
God did not need to be baptized. He allowed Himself to be
baptized by His cousin for two reasons: to show us that we
should be baptized and to bless the waters of Baptism.
Traditionally, as I also mentioned last week, the Christmas
season continues until February 2nd. With that in mind many of
our Christmas decorations will remain in place until the feast of
the Presentation, such as the crèche scene. That it is
Christmas, officially or traditionally, this weekend permits me to
offer more words of gratitude for a beautiful season.
As with nearly everything here at St. Mary’s, all that we
do is because of the many wonderful, dedicated, and faithful
people. That was true in regards to our Christmas ceremonies.
I first want to again thank my fellow priests. Fr. Ruskamp and
Fr. Bresnahan were big helps as was Fr. Barnes, who also did
a great job guiding our altar boys. I also want to thank our
choirs, all of whom helped enhance the Christmas Masses and
Lessons and Carols with their beautiful sounds. That includes
our cantors and the traditional choir, the children’s choir at the
school, the children’s choir at the Children’s Mass, and our
contemporary choir. I am particularly grateful to Fiona Roehl, a
kindergartener, who was our Baby Jesus bearer this year at the
Midnight Mass. A special word of thanks goes to the Mary
Martha Guild, who did an exceptional job of decorating the
church. In addition, I want to thank the lectors, the ushers, the
money counters, the sacristans, the altar servers, and the
extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, all of whom put in
extra hours of service over the past three weeks. Our
maintenance and rectory staffs also had much to do this past
month and as they always do graciously and faithfully fulfilled
their duties. As in years past, our younger Girl Scouts
(Brownies and Daisies) again decorated the rectory Christmas
tree. We are very grateful to them and their mothers. This year
the Giving Tree was sponsored by the Young Adults of our
parish, so I thank them for their help with that. As they have
been doing now for years Marjorie Mulloy and Anne McAloon
again headed up the Christmas basket effort for the parish.
With their other volunteers 74 baskets of food (Christmas
dinners) were distributed to the needy. Of course that was only
possible because of all of the donations of food and money that
so many of you made. In addition many gifts were made to the
parish as well. So to all, thank you, thank you and God bless
you!!!
In Christ,
Fr. Kleinmann

DIVINE MERCY CORNER
“And I understand that the greatest attribute
is love and mercy. It unites the creature with
the Creator. This immense love and abyss
of mercy are made known in the Incarnation
of the Word and in the Redemption [of
humanity] and it is here that I saw this as the
greatest of all God's attributes.”
(St. Faustina, Diary 180)
JESUS I TRUST IN YOU!
DIVINE MERCY CENACLE

Immaculate Conception and Dr. Bryan Thatcher. Cenacles are now

reveals God's Love and Mercy and healing that Our Lord offers each one of
us. All are welcome. For questions, please call Harry or Lynne Dolton at

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
The Christmas season is a beautiful time of
year, reminding us that Jesus did not come on a throne,
but in silence, with only His Mother, the Blessed Virgin
Mary, His father, Joseph, and some shepherds. He was
born in a stable, lacking the comforts new babies have.
He absolutely does not want to let go of us and is still
here , 2000 years later, in silence, hidden in the Sacred
Host. What a truly special and humble way Jesus has
chosen to stay with us and how fortunate we are to have the gift of faith!
Think of spending just one hour a week with Our Lord. Sign up
sheets for a new session running from February through April are in the
back of the church. Adoration is on Thursdays from 12:30-7:30 P.M.,
concluding with a Holy Hour. For more information call Mary Stier at
703.768.7167.

Almighty and Eternal God, those who take refuge in You will be glad and
forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers as they discharge their
duties. Protect them with the shield of Your strength and keep them safe
from all evil and harm. May the power of Your love enable them to return
home in safety, that with all who love them, they may ever praise You for
Your loving care. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
ATTENTION ENGAGED COUPLES
Please plan to attend the Wedding Music Workshop on Tuesday, January
20 at 7 P.M. in the church choir loft by the organ. This workshop will help
