Dear Friends,
On Thursday of this week, January 22nd, hundreds of thousands of Americans will
soon flock to Washington, D.C. to advocate life at the 2015 March for Life. The march which
begins at 12:00 pm will be followed to the National Mall where a rally will be held at 1:00 pm
on the 42nd anniversary of the horrific Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade.
We are often led to believe that Roe v. Wade merely recognized abortion in the first
three months of pregnancy. I have often surveyed family and friends concerning the issue of
abortion, those in favor of abortion, and those against abortion, who believe that abortion can only take
place in the third trimester. The answer for both is FALSE.
We, as a Catholic Church in the United States, are particularly guilty of not stating to the general
public what in fact the Supreme Court ruled on that fateful day. If we had addressed the particulars, rather
than the issue itself, I believe many Americans would have come to a different understanding of Roe v.
Wade, as they are in today’s public surveys.
Likewise, I think if the justices of our Supreme Court knew then what we know now they would have
come to a very different decision then the one they delivered that fateful day. Since then, science has shown
what they lacked and what we now know.
The problem is that in Roe v. Wade, the Court said abortion must be allowed for any reason in the
next three months as well. But then in a forthcoming decision, the Court stated that said laws against
abortion must have a broad health exception even in the final “trimester.”
It was on that same day in its case of Doe v. Bolton, that the Court announced that health, for the
purpose of late-term abortion law, would be synonymous with the mother’s “physical, emotional,
psychological, familial . . . and well being.” In other words, every pregnant woman was being given a reason
for seeking an abortion in the first place. How cruel and manipulating that was on the part of the Court?
Social Media is a powerful medium to reveal the truth about abortion. Social media not only unifies
countless and various pro-life voices which would not otherwise be able to come together, as in the case of
this March for Life. But it also allows for extraordinary images and facts to be shared with others in a very
short time-span.
I encourage you to upload Instagram, Facebook, Twitter with the reason you’d like to share why we
march for life on January 22nd.
I’ll leave you with this true short story on the part of Brittany Hebert who writes . . .
“I attended the March for Life in 2010 with my graduating class from St. Edmund School in Eunice,
Louisiana. It was an amazing eye-opening experience for everyone. I attended a Catholic (High) School,
and I am Catholic. I have always been taught that life begins at conception, to end that life is murder. I
strongly believe this with every fiber of my being.”
“The March for Life holds a very dear spot in my heart because of my abortion story. When my mom
was pregnant with me, she went in for a normal check up. Everything was fine until they did her ultra sound.
She was 26 weeks pregnant. The doctor spotted a mass on my brain. The doctor immediately told my
parents that they should have an abortion because there was no way I would ever live a normal life.”
“My parents objected instantly, but because they were concerned, they decided to travel to Tulane
Hospital in New Orleans to do an amniocentesis to know what to expect when I was born. A few weeks later
my mom received a call from Tulane. The doctor explained that I was going to be Down Syndrome, if I
survived long enough to be born.”
“The mass on my brain had also grown, and was traveling down to my spine. The doctor
recommended an abortion again. My parents did not want to hear it. I was born October 24, 1991, 1 1/2
months premature. I stayed in the NICU for 2 months. There was no mass on my brain, and no
abnormalities at all.”
“I am a healthy, happy 23 year old. I am engaged to the most wonderful man I have ever known. I
have a degree in Early Childhood Education, and I am about to graduate in Elementary Education. I am well
blessed beyond measure.”
If any of our parents had decided to abort us for whatever reason, would we be reading this? Thank
God, Brittany’s parents did not.

Dear All of You,
Did you hear today’s first reading? I have always been fascinated
by it. Samuel while sleeping is awakened by a voice calling his name. He
believes it was Eli calling, but Eli too had been asleep. When Samuel
heard his voice called for the third time, he takes Eli’s advice and
answers, “Speak Lord, your servant is listening.”
I think this is very much like what happens to us. Everyone has a calling. God calls us
each by name. And like Samuel, we may not recognize God’s voice right away. Part of the
reason why is that we don’t expect God to speak to us. Didn’t all that just happen in the Bible
centuries ago? Or why would God call me?
Another reason for us not responding to God’s call is that it comes in a variety of
sources; it may be the voice of someone we know or a stranger. You may hear God’s voice in
your own thoughts, through music, nature or circumstance. For certain, once you recognize
God’s voice, your heart will be stirred like never before.
You then will understand what God is asking of you. No need to fret, because God calls
us to be the very best we can be. Our God wants only the highest good for us.
So if you suspect that God may be calling you to new heights and new depths, please
don’t hesitate to say, “Speak Lord, your servant is listening.”

FIRST EUCHARIST PARENTS’ MEETING ~ If

Question: Why are Catholic and Protestant Bibles different? Who originally complied the
Bible?
Answer: Catholic Bibles contain—and have always contained—all the books of the Bible that have
been accepted as canon by Christians dating back to the early Church. These accepted books total
46 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament. Protestant Bibles, however, have seven
fewer books in their Old Testament. These seven books excluded in the protestant Bible are Baruch, Sirach, 1 & 2
Maccabees, Tobit, Judith, and the Wisdom of Solomon, plus portions of Esther and Daniel These books were rejected
by Protestant Reformers in the 1500’s because elements in these books did not support certain Protestant theology
and doctrines. Prior to the sixteenth century, all Christians used Bibles containing all 46 books of the Old Testament.
During the first century, there was much debate among the early Christians as to what made up the canon of Scripture.
