CHURCH
Young Samuel is acutely sensitive
to the voice that calls him in the
temple. As soon as the living God
pronounces his name, the child
awakens, attentive to the Presence.
Through the instruction of Eli, he is
open to recognize and to name the
One who speaks. Something similar
happens the first time Jesus meets
some of his future disciples. Jesus is walking on the
banks of the Jordan. On the testimony of the Baptist
who points him out, two men begin to look for him,
attentive to his word, “Come and see.” There is no
constraint. Jesus invites them to walk freely toward the
truth.

ADMINISTRATION
Of the two disciples who follow Jesus, only Andrew
is named. We are left to guess that the other is the
beloved disciple. But behind his anonymity he is each
of us, called in the same way to recognize the Lord.

IRS NOTICE FROM THE
ARCHDIOCESE
The Archdiocese of Portland has requested that we
post the following information about an upcoming
IRS mailing that may affect some of you. The contact
information for the IRS is below if you have any
questions.
With God’s Grace,
Fr. Sean Weeks
Pastor
Action alert re: IRS mailing. The IRS informed the
Archdiocese of Portland that, in an effort to assist
individuals potentially affected by tax fraud, it is
attempting to issue an Identity Protection PIN (IP
PIN) number to every individual who had a criminal
background check processed through the former
background check vendor for the Archdiocese of
Portland in Oregon and the Archdiocese of Seattle,
regardless of when, or for which parish, school or other
organization. The IP PIN number has been or will be
sent by the IRS via US Mail by early January 2015. The
IP-PIN must be included on your 2014 tax return. The
IRS will not process returns that do not include this IP
PIN number in an effort to protect people from having a
fraudulent return filed in their name for the 2014 tax year.
Please read important information posted about this
IP-PIN mailing on the Archdiocesan website: www.
archdpdx.org. Click on Action Alert on the first page.
If you have questions, please contact the IRS Identity
Protection Special Unit at 1-800-908-4490, or visit a
Taxpayer Assistance Center. Please do not contact the
Archdiocese. The Archdiocese has no information on the
issuance of IP-PINs.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL REFLECTION
SPECIAL COLLECTION THIS
WEEKEND
In the Gospel today, Jesus asks, “What are you looking
for?” Often we are looking for happiness in very
selfish ways, but we find that when we look for ways
to make others happy, it is then that we truly become
happy. For a very small investment of time you can
make a huge difference in someone’s life.
The special collection this weekend is for Catholic
Communications. The United States Conference
of Catholic Bishops established the Catholic
Communication Campaign (CCC) collection in 1979 to
respond to the national and local communications needs
of the Church. The collection is unique in that proceeds
are split equally between each participating diocese and
the national office. Dioceses use their share of the CCC
collection to support local communications efforts such
as televised Masses and diocesan newspapers. On the
national level, CCC funds support the development and
production of a wide range of media initiatives that are
carried out by USCCB staff and grantee organizations.
A portion of the CCC’s national funds are also set aside
for grants to aid Catholic communication efforts in
developing nations.
Please join us for our next meeting on Monday, January
19, at 7:00 pm in the Church Hall. Meetings last less
than an hour.

templo. Tan pronto como el Dios vivo
pronuncia su nombre, el niño despierta,
atento a la presencia. A través de la
instrucción de Eli, él es abierto para
reconocer y dar nombre al que hablas.
Algo similar sucede el primer vez Jesús
encuentra con algunos de sus futuros
discípulos. Jesús estaba caminando a
y mirar.” No ay restricción.
