A series of six prenatal classes, (taught by a Public Health Nurse)
prepare young parents and their support persons for childbirth, care
of their newborn and breastfeeding. Classes are free and include
light refreshments, assistance with transportation and a tour of the
labour and delivery floor at the hospital. Young pregnant moms
can attend on their own, or are welcome to bring a support person,
such as their partner, parent or a friend. Please call the Health Unit

The Parenting Partnership Program
This is a free, comprehensive prenatal and parenting program that
starts during pregnancy with prenatal classes and continues after
the birth of your child. The prenatal series is once a week for seven
weeks. We break for two months while the babies are being born
and reconvene one time afterwards focusing on life with your newborn. It is staffed by a health care practitioner and a parent educator. We are currently looking for families who are having their babies in July or August, 2015. Call to register.

The book Healthy Beginnings, refreshments, and parking for a hospital
tour are included. Classes are led by Public Health Nurses. To reserve

La Leche (pronounced ‘lay-chay’) is Spanish for ‘the milk’. La Leche
League is the gold standard in mom to mom breastfeeding support. LLL through informal, guided discussions gives you the face to
face support you are looking for. Come meet other breastfeeding
moms and babies and share your experiences with breastfeeding
and parenting. Partners are welcome. No meetings in July or August,

PALS - Family Literacy Program
Next Step: High School (NSHS) Program
A four-session family literacy program for parents and their kindergarten aged children. This fun, activity-based program helps parents help their children with language & literacy development. Each
session includes a light meal and/or snacks and a take-home bag
with activities & supplies. Priority will be given to children who
attend the host school.
This program assists students in Grades 7 and 8 to develop and improve
learning strategies and skills to support academic achievement. Students
develop academic strategies and skills in preparation for high school with
one-to-one tutoring to address individual needs. Program Highlights:
Homework Completion Strategies, Time Management, Organization and
Study Skills, Use of Assistive Technology and Handheld Devices, and
Self-Advocacy Skills.
An interactive course for parents to attend with their children ages 5-15
months. Parents will learn a variety of signs through a weekly sign and
song circle. Information on the benefits of signing and tips for success

Fear Busters! Program– Anxiety Management
Group for Kids and Parents
The Fear Busters! Program is a 12 week program for children aged
6-12 years old who are experiencing anxiety to the point that it is
interfering with their daily lives and routines. In a small group, both
children and their parents are introduced to structured strategies to
help develop their child’s ability to cope with their worries and fears,
both presently and in the future. An initial consultation and a individual screening session with a social worker is necessary prior to
group start up, to ensure this is the appropriate service.
Parents can refer their child by calling Kinark’s Central Intake

follow and an intake appointment will be arranged.
