The 37th World Zionist Congress will meet in Jerusalem next October. Delegates will determine the annual allocations to Jewish organizations by the Jewish Agency. The Conservative movement will be represented by Mercaz, which advocates in Israel for religious pluralism, environmental awareness and a negotiated two-state solution and brings about financial benefits in excess of $2 million annually to Conservative/Masorti institutions in Israel and around the world. Tevye the Dairyman: Millions know and love Tevye, but relatively few know about Tevye's creator, the great Yiddish and Hebrew writer Sholem Aleichem or the classic novel, Tevye the Dairyman, that inspired the Broadway musical. Wendy Zierler of Hebrew Union College/Jewish Institute of Religion will provide an introduction to Sholem Aleichem, focusing on the novel and its signature style, how it encapsulated so many of the major cultural and social changes that overtook Jewish life in Russia and American at the turn of the century.
