A Welcome for those attending for the first time, thanks for choosing to meet with us at
Eaglehawk today. Please stay for a chat after the service, and collect an information
pack from the foyer about all the activities of the Eaglehawk Uniting Church. We hope
to see you again soon. From the Elders of the EUC. The people of Eaglehawk Uniting
Church acknowledge the original indigenous inhabitants – the Elders and the People,
both past and present – who occupied the land on which we live and worship.
Jonah 3:1-5 Maybe God Will Change His Mind
3 1-2 Next, GOD spoke to Jonah a second time: “Up on your feet and on your
way to the big city of Nineveh! Preach to them. They’re in a bad way and I can’t
ignore it any longer.” 3 This time Jonah started off straight for Nineveh, obeying GOD’s orders to the letter. Nineveh was a big city, very big—it took three
days to walk across it. 4 Jonah entered the city, went one day’s walk and
preached, “In forty days Nineveh will be smashed.” 5 The people of Nineveh
listened, and trusted God. They proclaimed a citywide fast and dressed in burlap to show their repentance. Everyone did it—rich and poor, famous and obscure, leaders and followers.
10
God saw what they had done, that they had turned away from their evil lives.
He did change his mind about them. What he said he would do to them he
didn’t do.

Mark 1:14-20
After John was arrested, Jesus went to Galilee preaching the Message of
God: “Time’s up! God’s kingdom is here. Change your life and believe the Message.” 16-18 Passing along the beach of Lake Galilee, he saw Simon and his
brother Andrew net-fishing. Fishing was their regular work. Jesus said to them,
“Come with me. I’ll make a new kind of fisherman out of you. I’ll show you how
to catch men and women instead of perch and bass.” They didn’t ask questions. They dropped their nets and followed. 19-20 A dozen yards or so down the
beach, he saw the brothers James and John, Zebedee’s sons. They were in the
boat, mending their fishnets. Right off, he made the same offer. Immediately,
they left their father Zebedee, the boat, and the hired hands, and followed.

From Cynthia
Hi everyone.
The school year is almost upon us again (remember that we
soon need to obey the 40km signs again!) and for most of us
life is cranking up again.
We have quite a few folk not well at the moment and your
prayers for them are appreciated: Carol Allen, Heather Cox,
Geoff Major, Jack Brereton, Steph Hein, George Hein to name a
few.
It means a lot to know that people are holding you in prayer so
please keep praying for healing and strength, patience, courage
and hope.
We pray for the families of Nilla Francis and Annie French as
they continue to grieve the loss of Nilla and Annie.
On a lighter note, you are invited to wear a pair of your snazzy
shoes that you love this Sunday?
Why? Because you can and to celebrate our gracious God who
does indeed move from anger to mercy as seen in our reading
from the Hebrew Scriptures today.
The city of Nineveh, having been condemned by God via the
word of the prophet Jonah, stand up and repent. They radically
turn themselves around in a hurry and God is moved to mercy
and forgiveness.
So, if you so fancy, please wear your fancy shoes or sandals, a
pair you would love to parade around on Sunday.
No-one told me that church could not be fun!
We will also celebrate communion and take that blessed bread
and wine to those who cannot be with us so if you or someone
else would like and Elder and I to bring you communion sometime next week, please let me know.
And any Elders who are able and happy to accompany me on
communion visits, can you also let me know asap? Thankyou.
Both Nilla and Annie were examples of women who loved God
and showed that love in their daily life and service of the
church but they also showed their love for God in their taking
time to be and to be still with God.
They were both inspiring faithful Christian servants.
As Mark Mulqueen said in relationship to Annie, ‘I feel like I am
not doing enough with my life, not giving enough to others’.
Thankyou to you, Eaglehawk’s living saints, for all you do in
your daily lives and in Christian service.
May you have time to be and in the being to enjoy being with
God.
Amen.
Warmly,
Cynthia
