The resulting donations were passed to Warlingham Parish Council and on their behalf a cheque for £315 was sent to the Charity at the Tower of London. In response, the Regimental Adjutant has written to ‘thank the people of Warlingham profusely for the very kind donation’. He goes on to explain that ‘the charity provides money to serving Fusiliers or their immediate families in times of need and even retired Fusiliers’. EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST PILGRIMAGE TO DURHAM & HOLY ISLAND 2016 There is interest locally in forming a group and organising a Pilgrimage to Durham and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne in the summer of 2016. Revd Michelle Edmonds will be leading the group. The trip, lasting five or six nights, would be based in Durham with accommodation at a University Hall of Residence near the magnificent Norman Cathedral. There would be a number of excursions by coach to places such as Bede’s World, Holy Island, Hadrian’s Wall and Cragside, home of Lord Armstrong and friend of Sir Joseph Swan who is buried in All Saints’ churchyard. There would, of course, be a tour of Durham Cathedral and opportunities for worship. The means of travel to/from Durham has yet to be decided; either by coach or independently. There may also be a visit to the historic town of York with its National Railway Museum. The cost of the trip will be around £430pp excluding travel to/from Durham. We are seeking expressions of interest at this stage so as to consider how to move forward. Therefore if you are interested please contact Rita Bransby [email protected] or 623839.
