Staff Takes on Students for Riley’s On February 19 Kouts Staff will square off against KHS Students in a volleyball game for the ages. All are welcome to attend! Admission is $3.00 a head (children not yet in school are free) and bake sale items/beverages will be available. All proceeds from the gate and “concessions” will go to Riley Children’s hospital. Will the students defeat their teachers? Will hips be broken? Who will have bragging rights in school on Friday? Come and find out! KMS Candygrams available next week! KMS Student Government is sponsoring a candygram fundraiser in time for Valentine’s Day next week. Color Xploders lollipops will be on sale for 50 cents and will include your personalized note. Order one for your BFF, sweetheart, favorite faculty member, or that special someone you admire…order as many as you want! Orders will be taken Monday through Thursday during lunch, and the candygrams will be delivered on Friday during last hour. Proceeds will help support KMS Student Government’s service projects. From The Guidance Counselor: SCHOLARSHIPS The Porter County Farm Bureau, Inc. scholarship has been created to recognize an outstanding individual from each public high school in Porter County. It is their desire to assist young people to further their education and training. An individual must meet the following criteria: 1) Need of applicant; 2) Transcript of grades; 3) Ability of applicant to complete courses; 4) Personality and character; 5) Leadership ability; and 6) Be a member of the Farm Bureau membership family. Applications can be found online at www.portercountyfarmbureau.com or in the guidance office. Forms must be completed and returned to the school counselor by March 20, 2015. The District 1 Farm Bureau, Inc. is sponsoring a scholarship through Indiana Farm Bureau. Criteria include being over 17 years of age, must be from a family who has been a member of Indiana Farm Bureau for a period of 2 years prior to application, admitted to an approved or accredited school of higher learning and plan to study in an ag-related field. Applications are due March 2, 2015. Forms can be found at www.infarmbureau.org or in the guidance office. The Crown Point community foundation is accepting applications for the following scholarships: American/Italian Benevolent Society Scholarship: Must be of Italian descent, maintain a B average, reside in Lake or Porter County, Indiana. Youche Country Club Scholarship: Child or grandchild of Youche member attending college or vocational school in the fall 2015 and 3.0 GPA. Ralph E. Bennett Memorial Scholarship: Student accepted in the Construction Engineering and Management Technologies Program at Purdue Northwest and 3.0 GPA. The Co-Alliance Scholarship program is designed to benefit college-bound high school seniors who are the children and grandchildren of our local cooperative members and who intend to study agriculture. A onetime scholarship of $1,000 is awarded to students who meet the following qualifications: 1) High school senior; 2) Have a parent or guardian who is a member of a local cooperative in the Co-Alliance partnership; and 3) Plan to enter the agriculture field. The Construction Advancement Foundation is pleased to announce a scholarship available to students pursuing careers in management in the construction industry. The requirements include: 1) Resident of Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Newton, Jasper, or Starke Counties; 2) Pursuing a career in construction or related field; 3) 3.0 GPA; 4) Pass an annual hair follicle drug test; 5) US Citizen; and 6) Extra-curricular and/or community activities. The deadline to apply is March 31, 2015, The Indiana Sheriff's Association is offering a scholarship to a student pursuing an education and career in a law enforcement field at an Indiana College or University. Other criteria include: 1) Must be an Indiana resident; 2) Be a current member of the association, or a dependent child or grandchild of a current member of the association (can sign up for membership when applying); 3) Must enroll as a full-time student; and 4) Have taken the SAT or ACT. COLLEGE FAIR Valparaiso University invites you and your child to the first-ever Valparaiso Regional Spring College fair on Wednesday, March 4, 2015, from 6:30-8:00 pm. Student Half-birthdays Recognized Reminder about Winter Weather Given With winter definitely here to stay for a little while, it’s a perfect time for winter weather reminders. Recess will be outdoors if the weather, including wind chill, is 20 degrees or above; therefore, it’s extremely important for students to come to school prepared. A heavy winter coat, gloves or mittens, a hood or hat, and boots are a must in snowy weather. If a student does not wear boots to school when there is snow on the ground, s/he will be required to stay off the playground. Girls on the Run of Northwest Indiana is excited to announce open registration for the Spring 2015 season! Girls on the Run is a transformational physical activity-based positive youth development program for girls in 4th and 5th grade. We teach life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K running event. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment, while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness. Registration will be online through our website, www.gotrofnwi.org beginning February 9th and closing on February 27th. Simply click on the “Register here for our Spring 2015 Program!” link.
