Potential Student Applications for the 2015-2016 school year
are now being accepted for kindergarten through 8th grade.
Visit our website, www.stggcs.org, and click on the
Admissions tab. It may be submitted electronically.
The first paragraph in our school philosophy states that STGGCS,
“offers a faith-based, Christ -centered learning experience that
recognizes and appreciates the uniqueness of each child and supports
students in developing their God-given gifts and talents.” This year’s
celebration of Catholic Schools Week was a living testament to this
philosophy as we saw our students shine in so many ways: actively
involved in the Opening Liturgy; welcoming and showing hospitality
during lunch with a Loved One; exhibition of an attitude of service
during Jump for the Heartand, just to name a few!
Congratulations to our second grade students and their Faith
Formation peers on their celebration for the Sacrament of
Reconciliation for the first time this past week.
We are very proud of our eighth grade students who have taken
their Catholic High School Placements tests, and are currently
interviewing for admission to St. Augustine HS, Academy of Our Lady
of Peace, and Cathedral Catholic HS. Please keep them in your
prayers during this pivotal time in the faith and academic life journey.
Last week we were delighted to see so many parents attend our
information meeting for prospective incoming kindergarteners.
Developmental screening is now under way.
As always, we thank the parishioners of St. Gregory the Great for
their ongoing stewardship and support.

Many plantings were changed and many new ones
added. Six flats of Snapdragons were planted, some
along the sidewalks, around the Statue and dispersed
among other Annuals. Fourteen new Gazanias replaced
old Daisies around the Oak Tree. Much work was done in
the Clivia Garden and in the Upper Falls Area. Hard working
Gardeners were: Barbara Barnes, Janet DeLair, Travis Nguyen,
Elizabeth Norconk, Malia Reis, Dan Roberts, Gilda Roberts, Nancy
Traetzsch, and Mike Yang. We welcome Elizabeth Norconk as a new
member of the Gardening Ministry.

Ministry for Priestly Formation
Merciful
CALLED TO BE
The future of our local Church is strengthened
by the number of men who answer the call to
a priestly vocation. We are blessed with a rich
heritage of men who have given their lives to
the service of our Church. Their living example
of Jesus Christ in our midst, as teacher, father,
friend, and brother, has enriched us with their
sacrifice and dedication to Our Lord.
“There is no greater happiness
than being called to
priesthood and to bring His
word and mercy to others.”
— Pope Francis
The responsibility, spiritually and financially,
of providing sufficient priests for the Church
belongs to all of us. We are currently
supporting 14 seminarians thanks to the
support of the Annual Catholic Appeal. This
year we ordained three priests and one
transitional deacon.
Our Office for Priestly Formation administers
the diocesan program for both pre-seminarian
and seminarian candidates and is located at
the St. Francis Center on the University of San
Diego campus. As a house of formation, St.
Francis Center, helps prepare men in each of
the four areas of formation: human, spiritual,
intellectual, and pastoral for admission to a
seminary school of theology.
Those who are called to priestly service touch
all our lives, the lives of our family members,
neighbors, friends, and our entire communities.
Our parishes have benefited from their
leadership and guidance. Our communities have
been inspired by their presence, demonstrating
that living the life of Christ daily is possible.
“Amen, I say to you,
whatever you did for one
of these least brothers
of mine, you did for me.”

• Why is there a Labyrinth?
• Have you seen your halo in the Baptismal font?
• Why have we moved the Tabernacle so far from the altar?
• Become aware of your faith journey as you walk into church.
A parishioner’s quote from a past tour…
“I realized how important church architecture and environment is
as an evangelical instrument that draws people to God.”
A Brief Reception will follow the Tour
