What’s Right with Our School...
★Four outstanding student teachers who have jumped
right in and are learning alongside our staff and
students. Proud to have Miss Lind, Miss
Berkompas, Miss Lamb, and Mrs. Wenger working
at RMS.
★Super swimmer and student - Samuel Myaard! Sam
is a great example to his peers in the pool and the
classroom.
★Our 7th grade class for having a tremendous amount
of school spirit. The class of 2020 knows how to
have fun! Congratulations to Madelynn Ellens,
Danielle Timmer, and Isabelle Schroeder for
winning the “western out” dress up competition at
the basketball game Thursday night.
★The immense amount of precision and practice
being demonstrated by our 7th and 8th grade band
as they prepare for their music festival.
★S/O to Pranitha Voruganti for always being gracious
and polite to those around her.
★8th grade girls basketball team for picking up their
first win of the season Thursday night against
Valleywood Middle School. Go Eagles!
★The musical crew! This group is hard at work
painting and designing the props for our spring
musical.
★Heather Coffman, Rebekah Ries, Maggie Chopra,
Shana Kelley, Jaelianna Primus, and Kaesha Conley
for taking on a leadership role by running our 6th
grade intramural volleyball activity this week.
★The many students in our school who’ve
demonstrated perseverance and academic growth
this trimester. We are proud of you!
★Congratulations to Emma Post for taking the top
spot at RMS for the America & Me Essay Contest.
Emma wrote about her mother Stacey Post as her
Michigan hero. Riley Verbrugge placed second here
at RMS, and Kalel Faber's paper took third place.
Good job, girls!
★S/O to Alaina Harrison for stepping up to help a
friend before even being asked.
★Carson Kooiker and Cayden King for helping out as
research scientists in Mrs. Wise’s class.
★S/O to all 8th graders who have worked so hard on
preparing for Shark Tank presentations. What
creative ideas we have this year!
★Jacob DeLeeuw for his assistance on the ski trails at
Pigeon Creek Park.
★Mr. Barnhart’s 1st and 2nd hour classes along with
Mrs. Westveld’s 1st hour class for being called the
"most polite group of school students they have had
in there" by Pigeon Creek Park staff.
★Seventh graders for using their creativity to make
children's books about water droplets going through
the water cycle!

Parent/Teacher Conferences ~ It is our desire to provide the highest quality
and most successful educational experience we possibly can for your student.
Toward that effort, we provide many different types of interaction and
feedback for you, the parent. Our best opportunity to talk face-to-face with
you about their academic progress is at Parent/Teacher Conferences.
Our Winter Conferences will be held on the following dates:
Tuesday, March 3rd from 5:30 - 8:00 PM
Wednesday, March 4th from 5:30 - 8:00 PM
Thursday, March 5th from 3:00 - 5:30 PM
This will be an open-conference format. Meaning, unlike our fall conferences
where parents were assigned a block of time on a given day, you are welcome
to stop in when it is most convenient for you. We hope that you will make
every effort to join us. Our goal is to have 100% of our students represented
by their parent or guardian.

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Jr. Fundraising
Opportunities ~ In order to run a successful musical
program, we must partake in some necessary fundraising
activities. Individuals who donate $50 or more will receive 2
preferred seats to one of the performances on either April 24
or 25. Donations can be made in the office anytime between
now and April 17.
Attention Parents of Current 8th Graders ~ Don't forget!!! We will be
having our 9th grade registration meeting on Monday,
9th Grade March 16 from 7pm to 9pm here at Riley Street Middle
School for all 8th grade students and parents. The
Registration meeting will begin at 7pm, but plan on coming a little
early to pick up all your registration materials. Computers
Meeting
will be available for those interested in selecting classes
after the meeting. High School and Middle School counselors will be
available afterward to answer any questions you may have.
Riley Band Notes ~ Just some friendly reminders to band students and parents!

The 7th and 8th grade bands will be performing on Thursday, February 26 at Grandville High School for band
festival. Additional information was previously emailed with exact times. Seventh grade students will be performing
early that day and will need to be at school in uniform at 7:15 a.m. that morning. Please let Mr. Good know as soon
as possible if your student will need help getting to school on time that morning. We may be able to work out
ride sharing. They are performing at 8:50 a.m. The eighth grade band members will need to bring their uniforms to
school that morning. They will be changing into uniform at school and playing at 12:25 p.m. Please encourage your
student to put in their last final push this weekend by spending some time each day practicing. All festival
information is also available on the Riley Street Band page at www.hudsonvillebands.org. We still need additional
parents to chaperon. Please contact Mr. Good if you are available and willing!

We are also in need of someone to pull the band trailer to Grandville High School on Wednesday, February 25 at 3:00
p.m. and to bring it back to Baldwin St. Middle School on Thursday, February 26 at 4:15 p.m. If you are able and
willing to do either or both times please contact Mr. Good.

Annual Pie Sale! Your student should have brought home a copy of the order form that was handed out in class last
week. The sale features unbaked 9 inch apple and blueberry pies, individually boxed with baking instructions. The
price is only $8 per pie. Students will take orders from now until March 4 and the pies will be made Saturday, March
14 and will need to be picked up that day between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. The forms are also available on the band
booster website.

Choir Announcements ~

The 7th & 8th Grade Choir Pre-Festival Concert will be held on Monday, February 23, at Jamestown Reformed
Church at 6:30pm. Students should wear their black and white formal uniforms and report for warm-ups at 5:50 pm.

The 7th and 8th grade choir students will be attending District Choral Festival on Wednesday, March 4. They should
arrive to school dressed in their black and white uniforms. They will leave at 8:50 am and return to school by 12:00
noon. They will return to their classes after eating during the 7th grade lunch period.
Clear Glass Jars with Lids ~ Riley kids are caring and creative kids! During the TCB Riley Cares sessions, students will have
the opportunity to use their creative skills to benefit the community. To make this effort sustainable, we would
certainly appreciate your support! If you are able and willing to send any of the following items into school
(labeled CRAFTS), we sure would appreciate it!
We are looking for small clear glass jars with lids (baby food jars, pickle jars . . .), scrapbook paper and supplies,
ribbon, XL-sized (8lb.) brown paper lunch bags, decorative buttons, contact paper. We also want to send a BIG THANK YOU
to all of you who have already generously donated items!
6th Grade Intramural Sports ~ Sixth grade students interested in participating in an open gym
intramural are encouraged to stay after school on Tuesday, February 24 until 4:00pm. Sixth
grade students, who want to participate, should report directly to the gym at the conclusion of
their 6th hour class. It is recommended that students bring gym clothes to change into for
this activity. Students will need to arrange for a ride to pick them up at 4:00pm. Contact Mr.
Ross for more details.
East Coast Trip ~ Mark your calendars for the annual Rock-a-thon on March 13-14. Twelve hours of
rockin’ good fun! This will be our last fundraiser for the trip. Information packets
were handed out on Tuesday, February 10. In addition to Rock-a-thon information,
students were given forms to create their room groups for the trip. These forms are
due to Mrs. Freeman by Monday, March 9. Start hunting down that rocking chair
and getting your room groups decided!!!! We would love food donations for the
evening of the Rock-a-Thon. Contact Mrs. Freeman if you can help bring food,
chaperone, or have any questions.

County youth? With all the media coverage of national issues, do you know which

youth are passionate about? This workshop will educate you on what youth in
Ottawa County are actually saying about their interests and behaviors in which
they participate. Learn how to connect with teens and develop strong youth.

programming software, providing a hands-on, minds-on, learning experience that actively involves young students in their own learning

Each four week session is unique and has a different engineering focus. Jr. Robotics is designed to increase the understanding of
engineering & robotics principles. The final class of each session, kids will use the knowledge gained to solve a building and
programming challenge, by designing their own model and applying what was learned the previous few weeks.

Pure in Heart Conference ~ The pure in Heart Conference is an exciting one-day event on Saturday, May 2, 2015 designed for tween girls

designed especially for their age with power-packed teaching times and fun crafts. Adult sessions include inspiring
testimonies and practical take-home tools that will help prepare children to combat the conflicting cultural messages they

Open Lacrosse Practices ~ Girls Lax Drop-In - (All Grades) through Grandville Schools are held on Wednesdays from 6:00pm-7:00pm at

Girls Youth Lacrosse Spring Teams ~ Grandville 7/8th grade girls will play on a combined team with Hudsonville and will compete against

CAMP INVENTION IS WHERE BIG IDEAS BECOME THE NEXT BIG THING! ~ In partnership with the National Inventors Hall of

COMMUNITY DINNER & FEEDING AMERICA FOOD TRUCK ~ On Friday February 27, GUMchurch (Georgetown United Methodist) will
host a community dinner and Feeding America food distribution. There is no charge for any part of this event and everyone is invited! Both
the community dinner and the food distribution begin at 6pm. Plus, a group of youth and adults from GUMchurch will be taking part in a 30
