Our parish was formed in 1959 and was elevated to the title of
Cathedral in 1968 and dedicated in 1974. Please enjoy the beauty of this spacious building dedicated to the Glory of God and
the memory of Saint Joseph, the Husband of Mary. It was built
for the inspiration of all who enter. Free tour booklets are available.
All visitors who are not of the Roman Catholic faith are most
welcome to join us in prayer and worship, but not to receive Holy Communion. Reception of Holy Communion is a sign of full
unity and membership in the Catholic community. Together let
us all pray for the unity of all believers.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
WELCOME to all who gather in our Cathedral Church for: The
First Sunday of Lent and the Rite of Election.
MASSES: Monday through Friday at 6:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m.
in the Cathedral proper.
WEEK OF PRAYER: We ask each member of our Cathedral
parish to pray for the members of one of the parishes or missions in our diocese this week. As a Cathedral Church, all our
parishes are linked to us and we wish to deepen the spiritual
bond with them. Therefore, we will pray this week for St.
Brendan, Mexico.
HOLY SILENCE: As is our custom during Lent, all Masses
will conclude without a hymn. We will depart in silence, recalling the suffering of Jesus on the cross for us as sinners.
STATIONS OF THE CROSS: This devotion will be held each
Friday of Lent at 2:30 p.m., and at 6:00 p.m. in the Cathedral.
On Good Friday, the Stations of the Cross will be at 3:00 p.m.,
followed by Confessions from 3:30 until 5:00 p.m.
WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CONSECRATED LIFE: Pope
Francis has asked us to remember in prayer, all members of
communities of Male and Female Religious. This week we
pray for the Living and Deceased members of, plus for an
increase in vocations for, the Central Dominican Province
of St. Albert the Great.

CHRISM MASS: Bishop John R. Gaydos invites you to attend
our annual Chrism Mass, Thursday, March 26, 5:30 p.m. This
Liturgy unites the Diocese in recalling the gifts of the Holy
Priesthood and the Most Holy Eucharist. The Oil of the Sick
and the Oil of the Catechumens are blessed and the Sacred
Chrism is consecrated at this time. These Holy Oils impact the
lives of those who are preparing to enter into the Church, those
who are ill, and all preparing for Confirmation and Holy Orders.
On this Sunday we recall the twofold nature of this time. For
catechumens, designated this week as the Elect, Lent is a time of
final preparation for Baptism. For those of us already baptized, it
is a time of repentance and renewal through the practices of
prayer, fasting and almsgiving. For all of us, baptized and unbaptized alike, Lent is about our baptismal covenant with God-the
promises that we have made and will make, rejecting Satan and
professing our belief in God.

Our first two readings today are about God’s covenant with Noah. Mark’s Gospel recounts, in his typical brief fashion, Jesus’
sojourn in the desert and his announcement of the kingdom of
God. All we have to do is repent and believe in the gospel-the
good News. As we listen to these readings today, let us recall our
own baptismal covenant with God (or for the catechumens, the
one that you are about to make this Easter Vigil) and how we
ourselves are repenting and believing in the Good news of our
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

GOOD FRIDAY: April 3, Stations of the Cross, 3:00 p.m..

CATHOLICISM VIDEO SERIES
LENTEN ADULT EDUCATION: "Seven Deadly Sins-Seven
Lively Virtues" This 7-week CATHOLICISM Video Series by
Fr. Barron helps us review various points of our faith. Here he
presents seven sinful attitudes to life and contrasts them with
seven corresponding virtues to help lead to a life of virtue. Sessions are held each Monday at 8:45 a.m. and Wednesday at
6:30 p.m. in the Mary Room. (lower level of Parish Office).
The first topic on February 23 & 25 is "Pride and Humility".
Books for the seven-weeks are $5.00. Topics are different each

HOLY ROSARY-Come and join us on Thursday nights at 7:00
p.m. to pray the Most Holy Rosary in the daily Mass Chapel.

powerful way of moving into a deepening experience of divine

support of those on the same faith journey as you. Here are
some things you can do: sign up to have your picture included
in the pictorial directory; come to Mass every Sunday and Holy
Day of Obligation; help with the Christmas Bazaar; come to a
parish breakfast; join a parish organization and get involved; or
sign up for an hour of Eucharistic Adoration–even if only as a
substitute. While the Cathedral parish needs your unique talents to reach its full potential, you will quickly see how the Cathedral parish can help in your journey to reach your full potential. All of us can work together for the greater glory of God.

Come to the Quiet Lenten Refreshment with God. Join us for
a morning of guided, quiet prayer on: Saturday, February 28,

VITAE EVENT
MISSING CHRISTMAS TREE
During the last Resurrection Cemetery clean-up, a Christmas
tree that has great sentimental value to a parishioner was mistakenly taken from the cemetery shed. The tree is not worth much,
but had been placed on the grave of the parishioner’s son for 21
years. If you have this tree, they are happy to buy you another to
replace their special tree. Please return it to the cemetery, or call

toward creating a plan to reintroduce our youth and young

40 DAYS FOR LIFE BEGAN ASH WEDNESDAY AND
CONTINUES TO PALM SUNDAY. Have you ever wished
that there was something you could do to end abortion? You
are invited to pray with other like-minded Catholics at the sidewalk in front of Planned Parenthood in Columbia, 711 Providence Rd. In the first three years of prayer, 7 abortionists quitone lasted one day! No abortions since June 28, 2012 (formerly
800 abortions per year), but Planned Parenthood continues to
refer for abortions every day. Prayer hours 8:00 a.m. to 6:00
p.m. daily (shorter hours on weekends). Our parish has accepted
as its special time for witness 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays,
February 28, and March 7, 14, 21, 28.If you would be willing

WILLIAM H. SIMON SCHOLARSHIP
The William H. (Bill) Simon Scholarship Fund awards scholarships to Catholic students who are in financial need for the purpose of attending an accredited college or university of the student's choice. The scholarship is $1,000 per semester to assist
the student in meeting educational needs. It is the intent to
award three new scholarships each year; however, the actual
number of new awards will be contingent upon the current number of previous recipients that are eligible for renewal. Applications may be picked up at the Parish Office, School Office or the
Chancery. The deadline for submission of the application, SAR,
and letters of recommendation is March 31, 2015.
