Award for IADVL
IMPHAL, Feb 18: The Indian
Association of Dermatologists,
Venereologists
and
Leprologists
(IADVL)
Manipur State Branch was the
joint winner of the best performing branch of IADVL
award for the year 2014.
The Manipur State branch
shared the award with its
Karnataka counterpart, according to a statement.
The award was presented
by the National Body of
IADVL in recognition of
various scientific, social and
cultural service rendered by
the IADVL branch in the
State as well as at the zonal
and National level.
The award was received by
Dr Karam Lokendro, president of IADVL, Manipur
branch during the 43rd National IADVL conference
(43rd DERMACON) on Feb
15 at Mangalore city, it said.
Manipur has 31 members
while Karnataka has hundreds
of
members.
Considering the steep difference in membership strength,
the award being conferred on
the State branch was a big
achievement, it added.
Ceaswork strike
IMPHAL, Feb 18: All
Manipur College Teachers' Association (AMCTA) has
launched its ceasework strike
from today.
In a statement, AMCTA
said that the agitation is part
of its movement for the larger
interest of college teachers of
the State and to uplift collegiate education. Appealing to
all concerned to join hands in
the struggle, AMCTA appealed to the students to bear
the inconveniences caused to
them in the interest of saving
higher education.
It further pledged to take
up various forms of agitation
until its legitimate demands
are realised.

and Presidency College
Teachers'
Association,
Motbung have resolved to
support
the
ongoing
ceasework strike of AMCTA
until the demands are fulfilled
by the Govt.

Dramatic Union, Imphal organised Artistes Day at the
union's auditorium today.
Theatre

Elangbam Joychandra was
presented the Khomdram
Dhanachandra
Memorial
award during the function.
The award carries a certificate, shawl and Rs 10,000.
The function was attended
by eminent musicologist
Laishram Birendrakumar and

and president respectively.

According to a statement
issued by the PRO of Police
Department, one Chinese
made hand grenade, five M16 ammunition, and two US
carbine ammunition were
seized from the possession of
Samom Davidson Meitei.
Further, from the disclosure made by Longjam
Salejudge Singh, another
cadre namely Athokpam
Chinglemba Luwang alias
Bocha (43) s/o (L) A
Ajitkumar Singh of Wangkhei
Ningthempukhri Mapal was
also arrested.
Investigation revealed that
Davidson lobbed grenades,
planted IEDs in Wangoi area.
He along with Salejudge extorted huge amount of money
from various shops in Imphal
city for party fund.
A case has been registered
at Wangoi PS and investigation is on, it added.
IMPHAL, Feb 18
Teams of Joint Students' Coordination Committee (JSCC)
today inspected different examination centres of the
ongoing HSSLC exam conducted by COHSEM.
The JSCC team came
across candidates using unfair means right in front of
the invigilators at Lilong College centre, a statement issued
by JSCC said.
The invigilators failed to
act against the students even
when asked, it said while
adding that mass copying was
practised openly at the centre.
At Waikhom Mani Girls'
College centre, the OC had
not allowed the JSCC team to
enter the centre which is a
strong indication that unfair
means were practised rampantly, it said.
At Pravabati centre, the
JSCC inspection team was
delayed for about 10 minutes
by the AOC even after the
team obtained permission
from the OC. Some invigilators also made derogatory
comments against the team.
At other centres the team
inspected, exams were conducted in a free and fair
manner, it added.

general area of Mantripukhri
and
apprehended
one
PREPAK cadre today.

The
apprehendee has been handed
over to Heingang PS.
In another operation,
troops of 45 Assam Rifles of
9 Sector AR under the aegis
of HQ IGAR (South) established a vehicle check post at
Khabam Lamkhai and apprehended two PREPAK cadres
today.

Poppy cultivation destroyed;
drug peddler arrested
IMPHAL, Feb 18: Narcotics and Affairs of Border PS,
Manipur in collaboration with 20 AR and Chandel district police destroyed illicit poppy cultivation in Chandel district from
Feb 13 to 17.
According to a statement issued by the PRO of Police
Department, the combined team destroyed about 136 acres
of illicit poppy cultivation at Machi junction, Tonglhang,
Hengjang and T Huimol under Machi subdivision in
Chandel district.
Meanwhile, based on specific intelligence inputs regarding drug peddling on NH 102, troops of 24 Assam Rifles
of 26 Sector AR under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South)
apprehended an individual along with contraband drugs at
Khudengthabi check post on Feb 14, said a statement issued by the PRO of IGAR (S).
The suspected vehicle, bearing registration number MN
02B 0907 travelling from Moreh to Imphal was stopped for
checking, and a thorough search of the vehicle led to the
recovery of 425 gms of heroin worth Rs 2.12 crore, 4063
numbers of WY tablets worth Rs 8.13 lakh, one voter card
and cash amount of Rs 1260.
The apprehendee was identified as AI Suan Lun Haokip,
S/o Ginzapao Haokip (26) of Tuinon,
CCpur. The
apprehendee along with the recovered items have been
handed over to the Narcotics Control Bureau Department,
Imphal.

observation committee on 'UNESCO 16th International Mother
Language Day' would give away Professor R Subbakrishna Memorial Journalist Fellowship 2015-16 on February 21 at Manipur
Press Club. The fellowship would be conferred on Naharolgi
Thoudang reporter Ningombam Nimolchand Meitei. Craftsman
L Bhubon Singh, mechanical transporter W Michael and women
and development social worker Haobijam Loidang Devi would
also be presented with a token to honour their contribution to the
society during the programme. TELPB convenor Th Chandramani
was also present at the press meet held today.
Interactive prog on transgender

IMPHAL, Feb 18 : All Manipur Nupi Maanbi Association under the
aegis of the Institute of Development Studies, held a one day interactive
programme to discuss the social security concerns of people with non
normative genders and sexuality of Manipur at Imphal Hotel Sirui hall
today. The interface shared the findings from a recent study tilted
'Livelihood, Exclusion and Opportunity : Socio-economic Welfare
Among Gender and Sexuality Non-Normative People in India' by
Pawan Dhal and Paul Boyce. A photo-documentation exercise
undertaken in association with the study was also displayed during
the interface. Resource person, Institute of Development studies,
India , Pawan Dhall spoke on various schemes undertaken by the
Centre and also of the rights endowed to its citizens.

SANSA general conference
cum sports meet begins

IMPHAL, Feb 18: The 56th general conference cum sports meet
2015 of Sagolmang Area Naga Students’ Association (SANSA)
kicked off at Sinakeithei (Sanakeithel) at Ukhrul district today.
Hosted by Sinakeithei Katamnao Long on the theme “Unity
in Diversity”, the conference cum sports meet will continue till
February 23. Today’s inaugural function was graced by K
Timothy Zimik, Principal Commissioner of Revenue Department, Government of India, Wungpam Raikhan, AE, CPWD,
social worker RS Paksha, Master Teacher Trainer Mumbai
and educationist Seme Newton as the presidium members.
Speaking at the occasion, K Timothy Zimik said that to
organise a conference cum sports annually under relevant
themes is highly appreciable.
“However, the area needs improvement to a great extent in
terms of transport and other developmental infrastructure. The
State Government and departments concerned should take up
various steps to improve the condition of the area. Nevertheless, to see people putting aside all the deprivations and
organising such event is commendable,” Timothy Zimik said.
SANSA president Solomon Phungshok said the event has
been organised not only for recreational purposes but also to
motivate students in their academic career through various
related competitions and programmes.
A variety of competition such as essay writing, painting,
debate, extempore speech, choreography, SANSA Got Talents 2015 (Season 2) and programmes like SANSA Nite, folk
dances and song performances and cultural items will mark
the 6 day long programme.
Bridge inauguration

The proposed inauguration
programme of a bridge over
Barak river that connects
Manipur and Nagaland along
the Tamei-Tenning road which
was earlier scheduled to be
held on Feb 19 has been deferred.
According to a statement
issued by Zeliangrong Youth
Front (AMN), the decision
to defer the inauguration was
reached during a joint meeting held yesterday at the
conference hall of Works
Minister office located at Old
Secretariat. The meeting was
attended by the Works Minister and officials of the
department and representatives
of
ZYF.
The
inauguration has been deferred till the rectification of
tehnical defects as pointed
out by the ZYF, it added.

Medical camp held
IMPHAL, Feb 18: 21 Assam Rifles of 28 Sector AR under the
aegis of HQ IGAR (South) organised a medical camp under ‘Operation Sadbhavana programme’ at Tuitam Khongkhai village of
Churachandpur district.
According to a statement issued by the PRO of IGAR (S),
the event was inaugurated by Brig Gajendra Joshi, SM, Commander, 28 Sector Assam Rifles. A total of 452 patients
including 121 children were treated during the medical camp.
The efforts and initiatives taken up by Assam Rifles were
appreciated by the locals and it strengthened the friendship
bond between the Assam Rifles and local populace.
In a similar endeavour, 2 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector AR
under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) conducted a dental camp
under ‘Operation Sadbhavana programme’ at Kharan village
where a medical team from 12 Dental Unit led by a team of
2 Assam Rifles provided dental check to 102 locals.
A lecture on `Healthy Teeth – Healthy Living` was also
conducted by the medical officer. At the culmination of the
dental camp, the local populace expressed their deep gratitude
to the Assam Rifles and applauded the kind efforts in helping
the people of Manipur residing in remote villages.
Awareness cum workshop
IMPHAL, Feb 18: An awareness cum workshop on jhum improvement for food security of tribal farmers through sustainable
agriculture was held at Noney-I , Tamenglong today.
The programme was organised by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat.
The programme was aimed at incorporating model of scientific farming system into traditional jhum farming for
sustaining food and nutritional security of jhumias, according
to a statement.
About 25 jhumias took part in the programme. Dr Lohit K
Baishya, Sr Scientist (Agronomy), ICAR RC for NEH and Dr
A Suresh Kumar Meitei, programme coordinator, KVK
Tamenglong delivered lectures.
Farmers also interacted with the resource persons during
the programme.
AR donates books, computer
IMPHAL, Feb 18: 25 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector AR under the
aegis of HQ IGAR(South) donated computer, encyclopedias, dictionaries and story books to the Compassionate Children Home,
Taloulong village of Senapati district.
According to a statement issued by the PRO of IGAR (S),
the items were presented by the commandant of the battalion.
The initiative of the Assam Rifles brought out their genuine
interest toward the people of Manipur.
