'Angels of Hell' narrates story of
a scavenger: John Devaraj
BANGALORE, Oct 26: "I want to change the 1.6 million black
people in India who are human scavenging worse than Apartheid,"
says John Devaraj, a Bangalore-based artist, filmmaker, activist
and world peace crusader.
This multi-faceted personality is ready with his 71-minutes
feature film, titled "Angels of Hell", which is scheduled to
release in an eductaional institute here on November 2.
"'Angels of Hell' is a powerful narrative about the life of
a manual scavenger which highlights social and political exclusion faced by the manual scavengers in India.
"The film talks about the true life story of 12 -year-old
Kiran and his parents who are manual scavengers. The movie
highlights the stark realities of sewage drain cleaning and the
innumerable prolems faced by dalits who are mostly the ones
forced to take up this job," Devaraj told PTI.
He was also the art director for feature films, all of which
received National Awards including "Kubbi matthu Iyala"
{Kannada}, "Mane" {Hindi}, "Muthina Hara" {Kannada},

Nagaland CM concerned Situation 'tense but under control' in Trilokpuri
about 1000 hr bandh call in
Karbi Anglong
KOHIMA, Oct 26
The Chief Minister of
Nagaland, TR Zeliang, has
expressed concern about
the 1000-hour bandh called
by the Joint Action
Committee for
Autonomous State
(JACAS) of Karbi Anglong,
Assam.
In a letter to Union
Home Minister Rajnath
Singh the chief minister
yesterday expressed
concern about the proposed bandh by JACAS
stating that Nagaland and
Manipur have been the
worst-affected by frequent
bandhs imposed by
various organisations of
Karbi Anglong district.
The frequent shutdowns caused severe
inconveniences to travellers and affects the
supply of essential
commodities, causing
artificial shortages and
unrealistic price rise, the
letter, copy of which was
released here, said.
He expressed apprehension that the proposed
1000-hour bandh, the
reason for which is not
even remotely connected
to Nagaland, would
practically stop supplies
of all essential commodities including petroleum
products to Nagaland and
Manipur.
The Chief Minister
therefore appealed to the
Union Home Minister for
his personal intervention
to ensure that the
proposed bandh would
not affect the interest and
welfare of the people
living in the two states of
Nagaland and Manipur.
The present 1000-hour
bandh has been called by
the JACAS in protest
against the Central
Government's delay in
announcing the schedule
of the next round of talks
since the last one held on
6th November 2013.
The JACAS is spearheading the demand for
an autonomous state
within Assam and the
proposed bandh if taken
place would start from 5
am tomorrow and last for
around 40 days, greatly
affecting normal life in
Nagaland and Manipur,
apart from their own
district of Karbi Anglong
in Assam. PTI
NEW DELHI, Oct 26:
Situation today remained tense
but "under control" in East
Delhi's Trilokpuri locality as
there were no reports of no fresh
violence from the area which has
been on the boil during last three
days following a clash between
two groups on Diwali night.
Prohibitory orders remained imposed in the area
and large contingent of police
along with Rapid Action Force
(RAF) and Central Reserve
Police Force (CRPF) were

area.
"The situation is tense but
under control. No fresh violence or clash has taken place
today," Deputy Commissioner
of Police (East) Ajay Kumar
said.
Police has detained some
people for making hoax calls
or spreading rumours, and
senior officers were contemplating filing a case against

Eerie calm prevailed in the
area as locals preferred to stay
at home. Those ventured out

stoked violence in the area.
"Some outsiders had
started Diwali night's incident

blown clash among two communities and now we are
suffering," said Aman Singh,
who had come out to buy milk
for his three-year-old son.
Yesterday, five persons had
suffered gunshot injuries in
the clashes. Till last evening,
35 people, including 13 policemen had reportedly
sustained injuries in the three
days of violent clashes.
More than 70 miscreants
have been arrested so far in
connection with the incident
and combing operations were
on. Police has advised the
public to refrain from visiting
the area. Residents of the locality have been fighting
pitched battles since Diwali's
night and have also pelted
stones on security personnel.
A number of vehicles belonging to locals and to policemen
were vandalised in the area.
According to the police, 14
persons, including 13 policemen, were injured in Saturday
night's violence and 10 persons were arrested for their
alleged involvement in rioting.
Fresh violence had erupted
yesterday after which around
60 miscreants were arrested by
the police.
"Certains incidents were reported
in
some
highly-congested blocks of
Trilokpuri. Police had to use
the required minimum force to
deal with the situation and we
have apprehended over 60
miscreants for rioting and arson. Five persons are reported
to be injured due to gunshot
injury," Delhi Police said in a
