Connecting Circle

First Parish’s new Connecting Circles are about gathering with a small group of adults for spiritual journeying,
increasing sacred awareness, and sharing personal experiences. Circles are structured to allow members to
connect more closely with themselves and each other than can be accomplished at larger church functions.
Two Circles are launching in March. Both Circles will be held at church and will run through June. Sign up on
the sheets in Parish Hall.
Circle A - Friday, March 20th. 7pm
(1st and 3rd Fridays), and
Circle K - Sunday, March 22nd. 5:30pm
(2nd and 4th Sundays)
Next Sermon and Soup Book Discussion – 3/15/15
Rev. Lara will preach on March 15, 2015 on The Selma Awakening and her experience at the 50th Anniversary
commemoration of the Selma to Montgomery Civil Rights March. Those interested are encouraged to read the
book in preparation. However, all are welcome, even if you haven’t read the book.
The Selma Awakening: How the Civil Rights Movement Tested and Changed Unitarian Universalism

The foremost scholar of African-American Unitarian Universalist history presents this long-awaited analysis of
the denomination's civil rights activism in Selma, Alabama, in 1965. Selma represented a turning point for
Unitarian Universalists. In answering Martin Luther King Jr.'s call to action, they shifted from passing earnest
resolutions about racial justice to putting their lives on the line for the cause. Morrison-Reed traces the long
history of race relations among the Unitarians and the Universalists leading up to 1965, exploring events and
practices of the late nineteenth century and first half of the twentieth century. He reveals the disparity between
their espoused values on race and their values in practice. And yet, in 1965 their activism in Selma—involving
hundreds of ministers and the violent deaths of Rev. James Reeb and Viola Liuzzo—at last put them in
authentic relationship with their proclaimed beliefs. With rigorous scholarship and unflinching frankness, The

Maine Mud Madness – Let’s Wake Up Spring!!
Dinner, Entertainment and a Silent Service Auction

In Maine, there are actually five seasons. This fifth inserts itself between winter
and spring during the months of March and April when all of the accumulated
snow melts at once. Known as "Mud Season," it is a time of change as the
landscape prepares itself for a new season of growth. Let’s celebrate the end of
winter and the arrival of spring with family and friends by sharing an evening of
dining, entertainment and a Silent Service Auction!
This year we are limiting the auction to parties, gatherings, services and gift certificates (i.e. dinners, breakfasts,
tea parties, painting rooms, carpentry, landscaping, gift certificates for boat trips, restaurants, etc.) Please
consider offering a few hours of your time and talent to the auction. Find attached an Item Donation Form –
you will also find them on the bulletin board – Current Events. Please return them ASAP to the Completed
Form folder on the bulletin board – Deadline for submission is March 13!

Fund Raising Proposal - IRISH GARDEN SHED
Presented is a proposal for your consideration of an opportunity to provided additional income for our church.
The project would entail the construction of an 8' x 10' Classic Post and Beam Irish Garden Shed and the
wherewithal for its completion, to be raffled in conjunction with our Blueberry Fair of 2015.The value of the
completed shed would be +/- $4,000.00.
The raffle would have a limited number of tickets sold at an amount per ticket to be determined. E.g.: One
hundred tickets sold at $100.00 per ticket would yield $10,000.00, or whatever...



Solicitation for building materials from a local supplier in consideration for advertising access for the
project is proposed.
Labor for construction of the shed to be provided by church member volunteers is proposed.
Location of the construction to be determined.
Organization, development, funding and actualization of the requirements necessary for the successful
completion of the raffle to be provided by church member volunteers.

from Gel Pens and Sharpies
from Crocs and Silly Bandz
and other colorful hunks of plastic.
I am from blue
blue carpets and tiles, and counters and sky
robin egg, sea spray, periwinkle and teal
sometimes lively and busy,
sometimes blank and dull.
I am from the pussy willow bush
from the climbing tree
that leaned against it’s stump
rotting and dying, but supporting little feet
for so long.
If a tree falls near the driveway
and noone is around to hear it
does that soften the sting of it’s loss?
I am from pizza on Fridays,

carrying wine bottles around?
FPUU not only recycles, but we turn in "Maine labeled" bottles and cans for money.
We have a Clynk deposit barrel in the kitchen. If you have more than you can carry, take home your very own
green bag. The new Clynk bags are in the black filing cabinet to the right of the stage behind the back curtain

A Hannaford card you use to prepay for groceries, through First Parish, then use it like a debit
card when you shop.
For every dollar you spend at Hannaford, they will give us 5% back.
Register for a refillable Hannaford card most Sundays, with Gwen Vesenka, at the Welcome
Table. She will take checks for under $500. Refill your card any week, by dropping off a check
in the slot of the office door.
How again and when?
1- Each week before Thursday
2- Write a check to FPUU Kennebunk and write the last 4 digits of your Hannaford card in the
memo area.
3- Place in an envelope labeled "Hannaford"
4- Put it in the cute little silver slot on the office door.
5- Voila! On Friday, your money will be transferred to the card.
Gwen Vesenka sends out nice emails reminding us each week of collection and transfer of the money.

Embracing Aging: Moment by Moment group meets twice a month for discussion and reflection. You may
attend on a drop-in basis if you wish. Remaining dates are: Weds. Feb 25, Mar 11 & 25, April 15 & 29,

Women for All Seasons: 2nd and 4th Tuesdays from 6:30 -8:30 p.m. Celebrate the cycles of nature and the
season, share and discuss, get to know other women in the congregation. We meet the second and fourth

Meditation: Wednesdays from 5-6:30 p.m. Silent meditation sessions in the Chapel with optional walking
meditation in the Sanctuary. All are welcome.

Early Morning Yoga: Thursday from 7-8:15 am: Start your day with a moderately paced Hatha Yoga class
led by Patrick Conner, M.A., RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher). Come whenever you can – no attendance
commitment. All experience levels are welcome. Wear comfortable clothes that allow movement. Bring a Yoga
mat and props if you have them – there will be mats available to borrow. All adults and teens are welcome.
Donations accepted.

Adult Choir: Rehearsals on Thursdays from 7-8:30 p.m. and 2 Sundays per month. All are welcome!

An affiliated group “Ripples of Peace” Buddhist Sangha: Tuesdays, 5:15- 6:45 p.m. in the Children’s
Chapel – Beginners Welcome! Please bring cushions and/or mat for comfortable sitting – Chairs will be
available. A Sangha is a community of friends learning and practicing the teachings of the Buddha. Our weekly
gatherings begin with sitting and walking meditation followed by reading from a Buddhist teacher. The Sangha
