Thursday 26th February Newsletter No.4 Principal’s Chat: Dear Parents, Caregivers and Members of the College Community Congratulations to the students of Baynton House for their convincing victory in the pool at the House Swimming Sports last Wednesday. Lauriston House held onto second place followed by Campaspe and Coliban. I was very pleased to see the level of participation in the sports by those who attended as well as the way that students conducted themselves on the day and supported their Houses and friends. Ms. Sharpe’s novelty events were another hit on the day with large numbers of students competing in the various novelty events both in and out of the pool. Many students dressed up for the day and competed in the annual Fashions on the Field with a group of Lauriston students (dressed as corn chips) taking out the honors. Congratulations to our VCAL students for again running the BBQ and raising $500.00 towards the College Carnival at the end of term. Mr Donker’s chess competition was again a popular activity on the day with many students competing hotly for house points. My thanks go out to all the staff and students involved in the sports as well as to the number of parents who came along to spectate and to help out. In particular, my thanks go to Ms Bieshaar for organizing and running her first major sporting competition. As you will be aware, we recently called for nominations for our 2015 School Council. At the close of nominations, we had three nominations for the three parent representative positions: Darryl Durham, Julie McLaren and Miles Dacre. Congratulations to them all and I declare them duly elected. We also had two nominations for the two staff positions: Anwyn Chapman and Pam Macdonald. Congratulations to them both and I declare them both duly elected. My thanks go out to all our nominees for putting themselves forward and I look forward to the first sitting of the new school council on the 12th March. College Captains Message What a tremendous return to the 2015 school year it has been! Well done to red house- Baynton for winning last week’s swimming sports. The day turned out to be a great success despite the horrible weather. It was very exciting to see students and teachers dressed up in their house colours, and also the level of participation from the students in the swimming and novelty events was just fantastic! We are hoping to see an even greater level of participation from the students at the athletics day. This year our school is again planning on running another carnival which is now well underway with the help of the VCAL and Community Services students and also the student leadership team. We are still looking for volunteers to help make the event become a great success. We are also encouraging the talented students of Kyneton Secondary to participate in the talent show that will be held during the school carnival, so if you can sing, dance, do a magic trick or have some freakishly amazing talent don’t be afraid to showcase your ingenious capabilities at the talent show, the worst you could do is win! Regardless of the overcast weather many of our students got in the pool and exhibited their talents and earned well deserved points for their house. This year Baynton took the cup again for the swimming sports, proving that participation in the pool and determination is the key to getting the most points. Many additional points were also picked up through our extra activities such as our “thought sports” Chess Competition, the Fashions on the Field and student helper roles.
