Principal’s Chat:
Dear Parents, Caregivers and Members of the College Community
Congratulations to the students of Baynton House for their convincing victory in the pool
at the House Swimming Sports last Wednesday. Lauriston House held onto second place
followed by Campaspe and Coliban. I was very pleased to see the level of participation in
the sports by those who attended as well as the way that students conducted themselves
on the day and supported their Houses and friends.
Ms. Sharpe’s novelty events were another hit on the day with large numbers of students
competing in the various novelty events both in and out of the pool. Many students
dressed up for the day and competed in the annual Fashions on the Field with a group of
Lauriston students (dressed as corn chips) taking out the honors. Congratulations to our VCAL students for again
running the BBQ and raising $500.00 towards the College Carnival at the end of term. Mr Donker’s chess competition
was again a popular activity on the day with many students competing hotly for house points.
My thanks go out to all the staff and students involved in the sports as well as to the number of parents who came
along to spectate and to help out. In particular, my thanks go to Ms Bieshaar for organizing and running her first major
sporting competition.
As you will be aware, we recently called for nominations for our 2015
School Council. At the close of nominations, we had three nominations
for the three parent representative positions: Darryl Durham, Julie
McLaren and Miles Dacre. Congratulations to them all and I declare
them duly elected.
We also had two nominations for the two staff positions: Anwyn
Chapman and Pam Macdonald. Congratulations to them both and I
declare them both duly elected.
My thanks go out to all our nominees for putting themselves forward
and I look forward to the first sitting of the new school council on the
12th March.

College Captains Message
What a tremendous return to the 2015 school year it
has been!
Well done to red house- Baynton for winning last
week’s swimming sports. The day turned out to be a
great success despite the horrible weather. It was very
exciting to see students and teachers dressed up in
their house colours, and also the level of participation
from the students in the swimming and novelty
events was just fantastic! We are hoping to see an
even greater level of participation from the students
at the athletics day.
This year our school is again planning on running
another carnival which is now well underway with the
help of the VCAL and Community Services students
and also the student leadership team. We are still
looking for volunteers to help make the event become
a great success. We are also encouraging the talented
students of Kyneton Secondary to participate in the
talent show that will be held during the school
carnival, so if you can sing, dance, do a magic trick or
have some freakishly amazing talent don’t be afraid to
showcase your ingenious capabilities at the talent
show, the worst you could do is win!

School Carnival
End of School
2.30pm
It’s that time of year again when we get excited about
the KSC annual CARNIVAL. Last year was a great
success and we are hoping to go just that bit further
to make this year’s carnival even better!
We all know when planning such an event it takes
time and effort, so we are asking for parent
involvement in this fantastic event that brings pride
into our school and allows the students to have a blast
on the last day of term 1. If you are interested please
contact Amanda Summers via email
[email protected]
Any involvement would be greatly appreciated.
We look forward to hearing from you!

carnival 2015!!
After the great success of the KSC Carnival in term one last year, we would like an even bigger and better
carnival this year!
We are inviting parents and students who would like to help with the carnival to submit an
expression of interest using the form below.
The carnival is scheduled for Friday 27th March 2015, the last day of term one.
Carnival Vision
To increase pride in the school by holding an annual whole school event that celebrates the school
community. The school carnival is a vibrant event that involves students, teachers, parents and community
organisations. The aim of this event is to build strong ongoing connections within the school and the wider
community, and to engage students in an holistic positive experience. In keeping with the school’s vision,
the carnival is intended to help develop and improve school spirit, and to improve how students and
teachers feel as a whole, as well as increase engagement within the school. It is also important that
everyone has fun!

Swimming Sports
The college swimming sports held recently at the Woodend
swimming pool was a huge success this year. Regardless of the
overcast weather many of our students got in the pool and
exhibited their talents and earned well deserved points for their
house.
This year Baynton took the cup again for the swimming sports,
proving that participation in the pool and determination is the key
to getting the most points. Many additional points were also picked up
through our extra activities such as our “thought sports” Chess Competition,
the Fashions on the Field and student helper roles.
The final house points totals:
Baynton 1256 pts
Lauriston 1100 pts
Campaspe 876 pts
Coliban
521 pts
We would like to make special mention of the outstanding
achievements of the following students as the individual
champions for each of their age groups.
 U/13 Female: Zoe Argueso, Campaspe – 52 pts
 U/13 Male: Liam Hale, Baynton – 50 pts
 U/14 Female: Natasha McIntyre, Coliban - 60pts
 U/14 Male: Quinn Starcevic, Baynton – 36 pts
 U/15 Female: Chloe Maonaigh, Baynton – 30 pts

Camellia Friends – Support in Grief
Camellia Friends aims to provide a place where people who are experiencing grief can
come together in a safe and understanding environment.
It’s a place to acknowledge the feelings of grief and loss you experience when someone
you love has died and be aware that you are not alone.
Camellia Friends is open to anyone who has experienced grief and loss and who would like to gather with
others to share their experience or just find a place where your own feelings can be acknowledged.
Camellia Friends meet monthly during the year at the Kyneton RSL Meeting Room and everyone is
welcome. It is free and there is no obligation to come to every meeting - just see how you feel.
It is a place to share thoughts, feelings and experiences or just listen, the choice is yours. There is usually a
monthly focus topic so there is the opportunity to hear how others are moving through their grief.
At our next gathering we will talk about going through and sorting those personal belongings and
mementos after someone had died. Our next meeting will be held at the Kyneton RSL Meeting Room.
Monday March 2nd at 5pm & Monday April 13th at 5pm
Please feel free to invite others to join us, wherever they are on their grief journey. Everyone is welcome If
you have any questions or concerns please contact Camellia friends by email
[email protected] or phone Liz on 54221264 or Joy on 54221718.
