Sacramental Preparation A sacramental preparation session for parents and candidates, who will be receiving First Holy Communion in April, will be held on Saturday, March 14, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM in St. Mary Friendship Hall. This will be an important session, so please make every effort to attend. Ethan Schroeder, a seventh grade at Mary Queen of Apostles School, received a First Place Award on the national level of the Veterans of Foreign War Patriot’s Pen Essay Contest. Ethan has also won first place on the local, district and state levels. This year’s theme was “Why I Appreciate American Veterans”. VFW State Commander, Gary Smith, estimated that 10,700 students entered the contest this year. Ethan and his parents traveled to Washington, DC for the awards ceremony and toured the Capitol Building and various monuments as the guest of the Department of Veterans of Foreign War. Ethan received a blazer embroidered with the Patriot’s Pen logo to wear at the awards ceremony where he read his essay. He also received a $5,000 monetary award. Dayna Orlowski is the seventh grade teacher moderator. Ethan is the son of Dr. Maryellen and Mr. Edward Schroeder of Tarentum.
