We are so thankful at CSCGP that Spring is here and snow is gone. We have many things to be thankful for as we welcome a variety of new programs in the next couple months. One exciting development is that we will be offering two separate weeks of “Kids Camp” at Gilda’s Club in Warminster as well as our first week of “Kids Camp” at Ridgeland in Philadelphia! Space is very limited so we are encouraging people to register as soon as possible. We will be having a week of fun themes, crafts and games. We provide lunch and snacks each day as well. LWL is also a once a month peer support group but it is for teens who have lost someone to cancer. CSCGP goes into many local middle schools and high schools to offer these free groups. Saturday, April 18 • 8-10am The Marshall Saturday Men’s Breakfast “Drones and Unmanned Airborne Vehicles (UAV’s)” Presented by Tom McDermitt Fund Mr. Koper has over 50 yrs of experience in the fields of tactical and Strategic Intelligence Surveillance & Reconnaissance (IS&R). He is involved in developing a number of DoD advanced sensor concepts and payloads for both unmanned and manned airborne platforms. During his presentation, Mr. Koper will address the history of uninhabited aircraft. This briefing will focus on the development and operational utilization of these vehicles especially during hostilities. He is currently the Executive Vice President of Navmar Applied Sciences Corporation (NASC) and is responsible for the oversight of 500 employees and the development of airborne drone aircraft. Tuesday, April 14 • 6:30-8pm Lecture: The Behavior Codes – Deciphering What Your Child Is Telling You Interested in tips and tricks to interpreting the true meaning of your child’s behavior? Sometimes children and teens act in ways that are indicative of a specific feeling that they do not express. This workshop will be held by Natalie Carlone, a Temple University Social Work intern, hoping to spread the word on decoding stress-provoking behaviors from your child. AT DOYLESTOWN HOSPITAL At Ridgeland Every Wednesday 1-2:30pm • Mindful Meditation Mindful meditation, led by Dr. Seran Schug, is a simple and gentle practice that engenders inner strength and resilience. In this body/mind group, we will practice mindfulness meditation as well as engage in a variety of creative relaxation and contemplative exercises. We will also talk about how to embody mindfulness in our daily lives so that we can face challenges with less reactivity and greater calm and purpose. Through this personal and communal experience, we hope to strengthen the sense of self-integrity and wholeness that may be fragile during times of illness and distress. Jin Shin Jyutsu: Wednesday, April 1 • 10-11am Learn how to do self-help “holds” that you can do at home to help relieve symptoms such as stress, anxiety, nausea, fatigue, and sleeplessness. Certified Jin Shin Jyutsu practitioner, Hannelore Devlin, has extensive experience teaching these techniques to people living with cancer to be used as a complement to medical care. This class will be held monthly. Please register so Hannelore can accommodate for class size. Thursdays, April 9 – May 28 • 12:30-2pm Yoga Therapy for People Affected by Cancer (During and After Treatment) Please join us for this gentle 8 week program to help you connect to your own innate healing abilities. Instructor, Dianne Miller, is offering an 8 week Yoga Therapy program for individuals that have had cancer. Yoga Therapy is a place where East meets West. It is the application of yoga to enhance health and wellness. She will utilize traditional yoga tools, breath work, meditation, intention, hand postures, and gentle body postures to help you connect to your body. This will help to balance the body and the mind and awaken the spirit—your true self. Dianne has been a physical therapist for over 20 years and a yoga instructor for 12 years.
