West Central Florida Council BSA Lifeguard Training WCFC is offering BSA Lifeguard Training. Space will be both limited and based upon receipt of reservation and payment. Reservation closes one (1) weeks prior to training. All BSA Lifeguard applicants must also complete CPR and First Aid for the Professional training and certification. CPR and First Aid training is part of the course curriculum. CPR/First Aid will be conducted during the first Saturday class. If you have completed the CPR/First Aid training, email copy to Bruce Hoover after enrolling in class. BSA Lifeguard Training When: Wednesday April 29, 2015. Saturday May 2, 2015 Wednesday May 6, 2015 Saturday May 9, & 16, 2015 Where: Camp Soule Aquatics Facility Cost: $95.00/ person Bring: Bathing suit, Towel, Sunscreen, notepad, pen/pencil, Swim fins, snorkel and mask, water shoes, Lunch. Optional: Hat, extra drinking water, change of clothing Minimum Requirements: Submit written evidence of fitness for swimming activities. A current medical– parts A, B, -required at first class. Form can be downloaded from www.WCFCBSA.org To enroll in the BSA Lifeguard course you must be at least 15 years of age. Pre-Requirements* To enroll in the BSA Lifeguard course, you must a. b. c. Jump feet first into water over your head and swim continuously for 550 yards in a strong manner. The 550 yards shall consist of a minimum of 100 yards each of elementary backstroke; breaststroke; front crawl and sidestroke. Immediately following the above swim, you must tread water for 2 minutes Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using a front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7- 10 feet, retrieve a 10 pound object, surface, swim with the object 20 yards back to the starting point and exit the water within 1 minute and 40 seconds. *These prerequisites will be tested on April 29 starting at 6:30 pm. Classes on Saturdays start at 8 am and run till around 6pm. The Wednesday May 6th class starts at 7pm may last for three hours. Must review and complete Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat Fast Start training at www.wcfcbsa.org . Bring completion cards to class. Please review BSA Lifeguard course requirements on BSA Lifeguard Application. You will be issued a BSA Lifesaving merit badge book upon arrival. The bulk of our information comes from this booklet. This is a very hard class. You must be prepared to work hard while you are in class and study when you are at home. In the past, those who did not study the material and techniques have failed. Do not count on makeup days or retests to pass the course. Instructions: Please fill out the application form that is attached. Turn it in to the council service center. Space is limited: The number of trainees will be dependent upon the number of qualified BSA Lifeguard Instructors available for instruction.
