Plan your
Summer is a wonderful time to visit Calais and the surrounding area.
It’s a fantastic chance to explore the beautiful coastline, the bustling
markets and the vast selection of appetizing restaurants (see overleaf
for exclusive deals in some of our personal favourites). Furthermore,
there are lots of events and exhibitions to enjoy. Here is a selection of
some of the things to see this summer:
21st Feb – 22nd June - Simon Faithfull Exhibition, Reef at the Fine
Arts Museum. Simon Faithfull is a contemporary artist who has

exhibited all over the world and his latest project, Reef, is one of
his most ambitious and longest works.
For almost a year, from August 2014 to
June 2015, submarine cameras will film a
boat which the artist himself intentionally
scuppered in the English Channel, off the
coast of Weymouth. The project will observe
the creation and evolution of this artificial
reef and these images will enable viewers to
see the construction of an ecosystem live.
21st – 24th May – Violins & World
Song Festival. This will be happening
in various places in Calais and
the surrounding area. Tickets are
up to €8 and can be bought via

Alternatively the Calais tourist board
will be offering a package deal including hotel accommodation and

19th June – 20th September - Following Hasselt, Luxembourg and
Hong Kong, Calais will host a happy and colourful herd of elephants,
painted by professional artists. The “Elephant Parade” will be
displayed all over the town centre and
aims to raise awareness for endangered
Asian elephants. Each statue is a
single piece of art and at the end of the
exhibition will be auctioned by the Asian
Elephants Foundation.
21st June – Fête de la Musique takes
place all over Calais and is completely
free. Musicians perform in a selection of
public areas from Place d’Armes to the
surrounding streets.
Nausicaa Sealife Centre – is fun for all the family and open all year
round. A 25 minute drive from the Eurotunnel terminal, Nausicaa
is situated on the seafront in Boulogne Sur Mer, and houses over
36,000 sea creatures. Nausicaa offers
an exciting and educational day out,
with separate areas showing creatures
according to their geographical region.

Those pesky Sat Navs aren’t always the most reliable
of devices, and the particularly troublesome ones
could well have you lost in a field somewhere before you
know it..! Therefore, we have put together some easyto-follow directions below to both of our branches, no
matter what your method of transport over the channel!
On exiting the terminal take the A16 (signposted Boulogne). On the A16
take the first exit you come to which is junction 41, signposted Coquelles/
Sangatte. Turn right at the roundabout off the slip road and then you will
come almost immediately to another roundabout (you can’t miss this as
there is a big drill on the middle of the roundabout). Turn right again onto
Avenue Charles de Gaulle and then drive for about 5 minutes. At this point
you will see us on the left hand side after a small selection of hotels.
To enter the store, go all the way around the roundabout in front of you
and then take the entrance on your right.
